My so many critics, we all know there’s more than one way to make a potatoe salad this is just her version it looks good to me. And I love the way you cut the veggies that’s how most people from the island cut veggies

I am in awe at how you cut everything in your hand, and you have NO nicks, cuts or bruises on your beautiful hands. I've been cooking for my family for 40 years and have been to the hospital to at least 5 times for different knife cuts to my hands. Thank goodness I mostly bake these days since kids are all grown up, lol. Your salad looks great, much like my 'recipe.' Glad I found you!

thanks .....your knives are probably sharper than mine...when Bruce sharpens my knives and doesn't tell me, I DO get nicked.....thanks for watching...I'm sure you have lots of recipes after 40 years also!!! tough to cook for two after the kids leave....and grocery shopping for two?? I still over shop, thinking I still am feeding kids....

@@crazyjeancooking Yes! I still do, too... I don't know how many times I've bought what I 'thought' was enough veggies, or something, for a couple of days for 2 people, only for them to end up rotting ;-/. I'm 56, and promised I'd learn to cook for two by the time I'm 60, LOL.

I am new to your channel. Everyone makes Potato Salad different. There's no wrong way or right way . I saw someone put Ketchup in theirs so we are not to judge. I do boil my potatoes with skin off and boil with them on, no difference. I use celery, onions,a little bell pepper and pickles to taste. Also salt,pepper, garlic powder, onion powder,and sugar to taste. Now judge me I was taught that and yes in the South we put sugar in everything. NC

I’ve been making potato salad the way my mom did. Start with a 2 cup measuring cup and put the mayonnaise in there with a little bit of milk and all of your seasonings and mix it well. That allows the seasonings to permeate through the mayonnaise. Then in a big bowl, layer your potatoes, eggs, onions, and celery and mix it well, and then add the mayonnaise mixture.

I stopped peeling and cutting my potatoes. Boil them whole for 40 minutes on a medium boil. Add the eggs and boil for 20 more minutes. The skin comes right off and they cook absolutely perfect. And it keeps the flavor and nutrients in.

@@crazyjeancooking it's actually easier and faster boiling them whole lol. You dont have to sit there with a potato peeler and make a huge mess. When you boil them with the skin on, you just wipe the skin off when they cool down 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

IF SHE WOULD JUST ADD ALL INGREDIENTS AT ONCE, THEN MIX IT UP WELL, SHE WOULD HAVE 'MUSHY POTATO SALAD' - - JUST THE WAY SHE SAYS SHE LIKES IT! SO WHY WASTE TIME MAKING LAYERS? I ONLY MAKE LAYERS WHEN MAKING THE FAMOUS '7-LAYER SALAD', WHICH IS REFRIGERATED BEFORE SERVING, AND LOOKS PRETTY IN A GLASS SALAD BOWL, SINCE THE COLORED LAYERS LOOK LIKE A RAINBOW OF SORTS, WITH A MAYO DRESSING ON THE TOP, AND CRISPY CHOPPED BACON... YUM! WE ONLY USE DRY MUSTARD WHEN MAKING GLAZE FOR BAKED HAM, WHEN YOU DON'T NEED THE MOISTURE OF THE VINEGAR THAT IS USED IN YELLOW MUSTARD. IT DOESN'T HAVE MUCH TASTE, SINCE IT'S THE TURMERIC, VINEGAR, AND SALT THAT GIVE MUSTARD POWDER IT'S FAMOUS FLAVOR. SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO USE DIJON OR POUPON AS IT'S CALLED SOMETIMES. I LIKE SPICY BROWN MUSTARD, WHICH IS NOT VERY SPICY AT ALL, IT JUST HAS ONION AND GARLIC POWDER IN IT, AND SOME GENERIC 'SPICES', NO CHILI PEPPERS LISTED.

Enjoyed watching a woman who knows how to use a knife, must of learned from your mom & grandma. I did also plus my home ex teacher. Cooking needs to be taught in school again, way too many young people have no clue how to feed themselves for less money than drive thru. Love your pepper grinder, where did you get it ? Thanks again, p.s. editing needs alittle work, your cutting off your comments.

Totally agree.....I am 70 and learned how to cook from My Grandma when I was young. I have her cookbooks which are nothing more than a list of ingredients for each recipe....no measurements, no temps or times. Yes, Home Ec. should be revived and taught in school, along with Civics and accounting ( young people have no idea how to budget ). We wonder why we are so unhealthy and overweight, eating fast food and restaurant food loaded with salt and chemicals. I am a retired teacher and have just purchased a small restaurant which I am renovating into a cooking school, free cooking lessons for the younger generation. I plan to open May 1st, teaching "old school" home cooked meals for a very low budget. This is what retirement is meant to be !!!

@EC C I hope I will be able to open on May 1st...the ice cream/hot dog take out part of the restaurant will open on May 1st, as I go the go ahead from the NH inspector. I have also hired 3 of my former elementary school kids, who are now graduating !!! Wow , how time flies, and how they have changed in looks !!! LOL.....should be fun.....

Had to say hello. I knew you were a teacher just by how you are instructing on this video. The students who had you were fortunate. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I needed a good potato salad recipe. Did you open the restaurant?

@@theresa8260 Yes we opened "Dad's" on May 1st...I have 4 of my former students working ( last time I saw them was in third grade!!) and now they are graduating high school...their character has not changed...still wonderful "kids"...they are taking over running the place....I am guiding them and giving them free reign, from ordering supplies to coming up with new products....yesterday they convinced me to fire up the grill and deep fat fryers and they began making burgers and fries !!! along with the hot dogs. One young man is making the chili now for the chili dogs and I showed him how to make pulled pork....they eat as much as they want, when they want...they have really taken ownership of the place and I have become the -""go-for""-....also the dishwasher!!! LOL.....

While they are boiling if they boil over try butting a wooden spoon ACROSSED the top of your pan, the bubbles hit that wooden spoon and burst and keep your water from boiling over, it's great if you can't keep your eyes on your boiled potatoes!

Ma'am, you made a beautiful potato salad mashing "some" of the potatoes. Keep on cooking ... your way! Bon appetit!
@crazyjeancooking
@crazyjeancooking 4 жыл бұрын
I used to make it without mashing them, but it wasn't very flavorful, (potato chunks COATED with flavoring) as all I tasted were small chunks of potatoes. So I found if I mash about 1/3 of them , the flavor is mashed in with the potatoes and is more intense.

You did a good job with the potato salad. I like the fact that you cut up the food in your hand. I do too for so much of the food I make. My special ingredient is Salad Supreme and Morton's Season All seasoning salt because it's not too salty.

The way you get a fine chop on the onion is new to me and looks easier than what I do, though I use scallions in my potato salad. I also use regular mustard but I'm going to try your method of ground mustard on hot potatoes. I also put about a 1/2-1 cup of vinegar into the boiling potato water depending on amount cooking. Love the pot you cooked potatoes in - where is it from? Just subbed!

Potato's should completely washed before pealing them. Also they SHOULD NOT be cut and cubed before cooking because they absorb too much water, and, all the vitamins and minerals are leached into the cooking water, and then thrown down the kitchen sink drain.
