I am in awe at how you cut everything in your hand, and you have NO nicks, cuts or bruises on your beautiful hands. I've been cooking for my family for 40 years and have been to the hospital to at least 5 times for different knife cuts to my hands. Thank goodness I mostly bake these days since kids are all grown up, lol. Your salad looks great, much like my 'recipe.' Glad I found you!

I’ve been making potato salad the way my mom did. Start with a 2 cup measuring cup and put the mayonnaise in there with a little bit of milk and all of your seasonings and mix it well. That allows the seasonings to permeate through the mayonnaise. Then in a big bowl, layer your potatoes, eggs, onions, and celery and mix it well, and then add the mayonnaise mixture.

IF SHE WOULD JUST ADD ALL INGREDIENTS AT ONCE, THEN MIX IT UP WELL, SHE WOULD HAVE 'MUSHY POTATO SALAD' - - JUST THE WAY SHE SAYS SHE LIKES IT! SO WHY WASTE TIME MAKING LAYERS? I ONLY MAKE LAYERS WHEN MAKING THE FAMOUS '7-LAYER SALAD', WHICH IS REFRIGERATED BEFORE SERVING, AND LOOKS PRETTY IN A GLASS SALAD BOWL, SINCE THE COLORED LAYERS LOOK LIKE A RAINBOW OF SORTS, WITH A MAYO DRESSING ON THE TOP, AND CRISPY CHOPPED BACON... YUM! WE ONLY USE DRY MUSTARD WHEN MAKING GLAZE FOR BAKED HAM, WHEN YOU DON'T NEED THE MOISTURE OF THE VINEGAR THAT IS USED IN YELLOW MUSTARD. IT DOESN'T HAVE MUCH TASTE, SINCE IT'S THE TURMERIC, VINEGAR, AND SALT THAT GIVE MUSTARD POWDER IT'S FAMOUS FLAVOR. SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO USE DIJON OR POUPON AS IT'S CALLED SOMETIMES. I LIKE SPICY BROWN MUSTARD, WHICH IS NOT VERY SPICY AT ALL, IT JUST HAS ONION AND GARLIC POWDER IN IT, AND SOME GENERIC 'SPICES', NO CHILI PEPPERS LISTED.

I have her cookbooks which are nothing more than a list of ingredients for each recipe....no measurements, no temps or times. We wonder why we are so unhealthy and overweight, eating fast food and restaurant food loaded with salt and chemicals. I am a retired teacher and have just purchased a small restaurant which I am renovating into a cooking school, free cooking lessons for the younger generation. I too was taught to cook potatoes in their jackets Then I add sweet and dill pickles, green onions both ends, pimento, black olives and paprika I guess we over due it a little bit that is the way Mother did and she always did 10#’s of potatoes Yes everyone took food home for the next day. That’s jut south Texas I guess. Hers looks good for small family dinners. I will try it

Potato salad is a family thing . I would eat this but my mother in law made the best I have ever tasted. But even my wife makes it different than her mother.

You did a good job with the potato salad. I like the fact that you cut up the food in your hand. I do too for so much of the food I make. My special ingredient is Salad Supreme and Morton's Season All seasoning salt because it's not too salty.

I have never heard of Salad Supreme....I will look it up... thanks, jean

You did a fabulous job it looks l delicious. My way of the potatoes is the fast way put them in the microwave press the button that says potato they’re done no fussing no boiling. It’s the same no difference, the taste is the same. 🤗

The way you get a fine chop on the onion is new to me and looks easier than what I do, though I use scallions in my potato salad. I also use regular mustard but I'm going to try your method of ground mustard on hot potatoes. I also put about a 1/2-1 cup of vinegar into the boiling potato water depending on amount cooking. Love the pot you cooked potatoes in - where is it from? Just subbed!

thanks....scallions are great to use...!!!.....I purchased the pot at TJMAXX about 15 years ago...Berndes brand, German made....

Potato's should completely washed before pealing them. Also they SHOULD NOT be cut and cubed before cooking because they absorb too much water, and, all the vitamins and minerals are leached into the cooking water, and then thrown down the kitchen sink drain.
