One thing I thought was weird at first when I saw the movie was that robots didn’t make any loud sounds when walking since they suppose they are suppose to be giant. Then I realized it makes sense since the movie is not from a human perspective but from the robot’s themselves so it actually made sense since to them their sound wouldn’t be abnormally loud.

That comes back to a really neat detail when Orion visits the miners' quarters to rally them later on! The cogged up Orion is a lot bigger than the cogless miners, so you get to hear his heavy clanking footsteps from the miners' perspective.

Sentinel Prime gives the entire city a mandatory day off to put on his ego event, then not even a day later he triples everyone's shifts to make up for the lost time. God, this movie is good.

As a transformers fanatic I can honestly say it's great to see a movie that's not just a summer shoot em up script. The original voice actors of Optimus was told by his brother, a war veteran "don't be one of those Hollywood heroes. Be strong enough to be kind" that's how Optimus MUST be and I glad I can see that on the big screen.

The saddest part is when Orion Speaks in the loud Optimus Prime voice, and then as he tells D-16 he's banished and towards the end of his statement, the mouthguard moves off. Then it reverts back to his normal voice in a low, heartbroken tone as he says the banished part. Man...That moment really hit me. And I'm not even really a transformers fan, but the film was still really emotional, hilarious and plot-focused. A definite must watch.

10/10 Transformers movie, for me! Being set on Cybertron is the BIG standout and benefit of this film. I surely hope this trilogy stays on Cybertron. Orion Pax & D-16's fallout is heartbreaking and mouthwatering to watch. At multiple points in the film, motifs & riffs from the Bay films and Transformers Prime played & it shot straight to my nostalgia. This movie shows how Transformers probably should fight, having body parts torn off, used as a melee weapon, merged back into the original bot, then used as another weapon. Despite being classified as a "kid's" movie, this movie had "badass-atron" and Orion flipping one bot off, quite impressive.

This movie was OUTSTANDING !! I agree with a lot of your points. I too had read criticisms of Megatron's transition being rushed but I think it was well done if maybe slightly rushed. I definitely agree with your point on how D-16 just straight up said "I want to kill him". I mean nowadays animated movies even shy away from saying the word "kill" and say words like "destroy" or something. Then the dark moments did not just end there. We have D-16 shooting Orion Pax, dropping him off the cliff, splitting Sentinel Prime into half. These moments were genuinely dark and surprising. Even though Sentinel Prime was despicable and love to hate kind of villain, his death scene felt brutal. Then of course the technical aspects, voice performances , musical scores and comedy were also great. I liked how the animation style is unique. A lot of studios are now just going after the Spider-Verse style and this animation does look inspired from spider-verse but it can also stand out as original. I was worried they would over-use the comedy factor with Bumblebee but no, he knew when it was time to be serious and when to lighten things up with good jokes. All the voice performances were great, especially Brian Tyree Henry. We usually see him in supporting character roles like Jefferson Davis from Spider-Verse or Bernie from MonsterVerse but the way his voice evolved from comedic to menacing as D-16 transitioned from best friend to villain was really great vocal performance. Even Jon Ham as Sentinel Prime, a fun and charming leader at first revealed to be a despicable loathsome villain. Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Fishburne were also great. They have the same music composer as Transformers Prime - Brian Tyler and I liked how the main theme score has several similarities with that of the show. Then the music playing when D-16 becomes Megatron and Orion becomes Optimus Prime was so powerful !! Its a solid 9 or 9.5/10 for me. I really hope it has the Elemental and Migration effect at box office because we really need a trilogy.

Fun fact I like to share is that the person who composed most of the music was the same person who did Transformers Prime. Heck, he even snuck in a motif from the theme of that show and put it in several parts related to the primes... including the bit where Orion is reborn as Optimus. Also the movie itself is full of so many easter eggs to prior entries all the way back to the original cartoons and comics, making it a hunt for all the easter eggs.

As a massive Transformers fan, I've never liked the Michael Bay movies. His humor always turned me off and the Transformers rarely got to show off their character, if they had any at all. I loved Bumblebee when it came out, especially the opening scene on Cybertron, and Rise of the Beasts was alright, but THIS. This movie is what I've been waiting for. I loved it so much, and I already know I'm gonna catch it in theaters more than once. Gotta tell Paramount we want that sequel.

I was really happy when D-16/Megatron went out his way to replace the cog that was originally given to him and replace it with the cog of Megatronas Prime. Megatronas Prime was not only his hero but also the greatest Prime in D-16’s eyes, basically the best of the best in every sense of the word. So D-16 taking Megatronas Prime’s cog as well as donning a similar name wasn’t honoring the Prime, but rather tainting the hero’s legacy by using his cog to do evil things.

Removing the humans makes the Cybertronian’s seem so much less like these magnificent beings and just another species. I think something that would be interesting is keeping the humans out of the story and having the entire war take place on Cybertron and the other planets.

I thought the movie might be too goofy where it would undercut any emotional stakes that would come from an Optimus Prime and Megatron origin story, though now I’m a little more confident in checking it out. I’m a Transformers casual myself, Bayformers, some animated series, and that’s about it.

*SPOILERS* 9:21 Exactly. The last time they get a full fledged conversation with each other, a real back-and-forth for a good bit is when they argue after finding out the truth. Even then you can see the seeds that've been growing for quite some time: "It's never about what *I* want, right Pax?" That. That is their last real conversation. The last conversation they get to start and finish. Almost every time afterwards they're interrupted (ambushed by The High Guard) or separated (D-16 is taken by Airachnid) or D-16 is dismissal ("I. Got. It." , "This is nothing compared to what I'm gonna do to Sentinel!", "Where's Sentinel?"). By the time Orion tries to interfere his attempt at killing Sentinel, D has not only become too hellbent on his mission, his violence has also been enabled by the High Guard. Starscream demanding him to keep hitting him, the High Guard cheering him on. We see he looks around as they cheer. For once he feels he's being truly appreciated. Now he has power, and that power is rspected. He has a message, and with this power he will make such a message known. So, in his eyes, why stop? Sentinel's responsible for the death of the Primes, of Megatronus. Responsible for him slaving away towards an undoubtedly unjust cause his entire life, working with the hopes for a better future that was never going to come. He's responsible for removing their cogs, *his* cog. Likely the one thing that would've made him feel closer to the Primes and it was robbed by a poser who doesn't even come close to deserving the title. He diminished the name and took part in the adoration of a legacy he himself ended. Every single Iacon 5000. Every "remembrance", every "honor" to the dead that WE made for 50 cycles meant nothing to someone that is less than nothing. Their false sacrifice wouldn't have had to be a sacrifice at all if not for him. ...This? *This* is the "Prime" you want to spare? *This* is too far? Why? Why is it that the one time I need your support I don't have it? I always have your back, but when I finally get to do what *I* want, *you* can't? You'd throw yourself in front of what he deserves to stop me from getting what I deserve? We ALL deserve? No. I will not sacrifice what I want for what you want. Not this time. Obviously that's probably an overdramatized (maybe inaccurate and definitely overwritten) version of his possible thought process, but this was just a long way of saying I think his change makes sense, especially when you think of it from his perspective. These kinds of thoughts with no time to simmer are dangerous. And Sentinel unintentionally with every action he makes keeps building upon them. Threatening them with death, labeling them as traitors as he happily kills them to forward his own agenda, acting smug and pompously reveling in his deception. Aaaall of it piling on D's thoughts and rage. Sentinel's biggest supporter became the biggest target on his back. And he had it coming. Despite how everything turns out, I think everyone can agree Sentinel is the villain of this movie. So putrid that he indirectly perpetuated the cycle of dictatorship. That's not to excuse D, he went too far...but I can't lie. I came out the movie a Decepticon. That's how you know you made something good.

@Mr6one8_ If you mean the movie then yes, it really is! I haven't been able to keep it off my mind ever since I watched it the first time. D is so compelling, it's crazy. He's for sure my favorite in the movie. Favorite performance too. Brian absolutely killed it when I didn't expect him to, like, at all. But his range is so fitting. I've seen tons of people compare his voice when he's Megatron to Young Kratos. I think that is so perfect. If you meant the comment then thanks! It means a lot that you read through it. I tend to get pretty wordy (like right now) so I usually just leave these here for myself. Like a "get off my chest" kinda thing. Never expect anyone to read it all. It's kind that you did. Seriously, thank you. Do you have any thoughts or feelings to share? I'd love to hear them. Any possible discussion about this movie is exciting to me.
@just1randomguy658

@Mr6one8_ *WARNING: I ONLY REALIZED THIS AFTER TYPING IT ALL, BUT THIS IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY LONGER THAN BOTH MY PREVIOUS COMMENTS. I AM NOT KIDDING. SCROLL AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION, MAN* Exactly! While I personally find the first half (before they find the Primes) kinda boring, (which makes sense for the amount of worldbuilding they have to do) I also think it sets up their dynamic well. Orion gets into trouble, D gets him out. Orion has some outland-ish and dumb plan/idea, D gets dragged into it. When you think about it, D never really has any agency until he learns the truth about Sentinel. Every situation beforehand is just stuff Orion wanted to do. Yeah, he's persuaded to join him to get the Matrix, but that's only to further his personal complacency and acceptance of "the way things are". That's the difference between Orion and D's motivation. Orion wants to change Cybertron for the better, D wants to be *seen* as better. Seen as better by his peers, by those who underestimated or wronged him, and most importantly? Seen better by Sentinel. In a nutshell, D is an extreme fanboy wanting to impress one of his biggest idols. D's entire reason for joining has almost everything to do with Sentinel. That's not to say his whole reasoning is completely selfish though. Could be he also wants to lighten the load for Sentinel. "He works so hard for us. He searches far and wide for us. This is the *least* I can do to repay him." A sense of gratitude, respect, and debt. But notice how I said ALMOST D's entire reason for joining is Sentinel. The other reason is actually one that coincides with one of Orion's grievances. Wanting to be something more. It's clear from the beginning both Orion and D feel a sense of yearning. D masks it, but some bits of the race and their short talk afterwards show that he too wants to be doing much more with his life. But he's held back. By standards. By fear. By hope. He's held back by the standards of tradition, his job, and his place as a cogless cybertronian. He's held back by his fear of breaking those standards. Breaking free from what's expected of him. From what a "mere cogless miner" is expected to do. Participating in the Iacon 5000? Going out to the SURFACE to find the Matrix? These aren't what's expected of him. I mean, what happened when Orion ignored orders to save Jazz? Elita got fired. What happened when D stopped Darkwing, a superior, from punching Orion? *He* got punched by him. What happened when they participated in the Iacon 5000? They were promised promotions and "the best care in all of Iacon." Wow...that's actually pretty good. Sure, Darkwing blueballed 'em, but if he didn't, they'd really have moved up the ladder by *breaking the norm* . ...Except...when Orion returned, the other miners said Sentinel told them him and D died due to their "racing injuries." Wait...that's not right. Sentinel never knew of them seeking out the Matrix. He would have to have said that knowing the two *only* by their participation in the race and being... "bots who can think for themselves." And that right there is the subtle reinforcement of D's fear. The reason for Sentinel to report them as dead after the race. Sentinel did indeed love what they did for him. 150% over quota isn't anything to sneeze at. But having bots who think for themselves? Why that's just no good. Sentinel thinks. They follow. By the end, D maybe didn't even realize it, but he and Orion were seen as little seeds to nip in the buds as early as the Iacon 5000. They did get the care they were promised and Darkwing was their escort. So even THEN, going against the standards and normalcy was going to cause them yet another punishment. Down in sub-level 50 with no exits. No exits so that the free-thinking that got them there would stay there. And no one would question Sentinel about it because he's nurtured a society of followers in place of doers. Anyone otherwise is stealthily cut out. So much so to the point where they don't even realize they were cut out. Like B. D doesn't know any of this, yet is still so strict about protocol because "this is just how it's always been." The tradition of standards. So, standards are fueled by tradition, his fear is fueled by possibly breaking the standards of said tradition, etc, etc. But how does hope fit into all this? Well, I believe hope is actually the biggest factor for D and why he's so complacent for the first half of the movie. We all fear things, we're all held back by at least *some* preconceived notions (subconscious or not), and do things we don't want to. But we endure all of that, or at least try to. And you know why as well as I do. We deal with the hardships of the present with the *hope* of a better future. This is another point where Orion and D diverge. Orion is a doer. His motivation this whole movie is essentially: "The future is now." He's always doing something and everything he does is in service of bettering the future by bettering the now. While Orion does also hope for a better future like D, he wants to be more directly and actively involved in the process. Even when he becomes Optimus, this doesn't change and never will. D is/was a follower. Until he gains his agency he really doesn't *do* anything. In the race he follows Orion's lead. D doesn't know they'll go faster so Orion tells him to improvise. Orion improvises, D follows suit. Then Orion signals when to jump out the little holes. Sure, D saves him a few times, but that's *support* . Not leadership. D tells Orion to go without him, but Orion carries him. Orion leads them from beginning to end. The only time (before his motivation and goal changes) D isn't lead by Orion, they're all lead by Elita. Until he finds out the truth. Then he becomes a doer. Now, conceptually that sounds righteous, yeah? A follower that finds out their following was a sham and wants to do something about that. But what if that follower was following that person their entire life up until that point? What if they followed them without hesitation for every waking second? What if following was all they knew? What if their world completely shatters at the revelation? They go from one extreme to the other. From someone who followed without question to someone who will "never trust a so-called leader ever again."

@Mr6one8_ Just goes to show what good writers can do. A fall in one movie being more believable than a gradual one from a trilogy displays how talented they are. Handled D so skillfully. And while I do wish they gave a BIT more time before he started showing glaring red flags, they still did great.

I understand that it's easy to see parallels to race and racism. But given the reason why some bots have cogs and some don't... Gonna skip a few lines here for spoilers It's not that they are a different ethnicity, with different ancestry. These bots are being maimed ... literally crippled at birth. They're given a disability, then placed in a society that doesn't tell them or acknowledge what happened to them, and gives them limited work options.

I'm honestly in the same boat as you when you said that D-16's descent into darkness didn't feel too rushed. Sure, I do think it could have used some more time and tweaking to make it all the more convincing, but it isn't as jarring as some people seem to make it out to be. Similar to what you said, I think that D-16 was the one that truly had invested all his faith into Sentinel "Prime" and the system that had been established; He revered in Sentinel's leadership and action, so when he learned of the dark and ugly truth? It broke him more then it broke the others, because even though everyone else trusted Sentinel enough, it was clear that they either felt that there was more to life(Orion Pax), that the system sucked sometimes (Elita-1), or just never really cared enough to either question or embrace it(B-127). Megatron, on the other hand, lived by it, and so to him, learning the treacherous actions of Sentinel wasn't just a deep cut into his trust, it also felt more personal to him, someone who did everything in their power to abide by it. I know I yapped a lot, but long story short, D-16/Megatron Idolized and trusted in Sentinel and the societal structure he set up and put him and the system on a pedestal, but when he learned of the truth, it broke him more then anyone else.

Then Jessica herself also did not feel like a compelling character to me. I did not like Peter B Parker in this movie at all. In the first movie he had good comic moments but here he is unfunny and also he advises Miles to let his father die because good things can happen ? Then throughout the epic chase Gwen tries to convince Miles to surrender for his own good but then after the chase she joins his team. Prefer the OG voice actor or someone else. 2nd the story is somehow weak and doesn't connect well with the G1 lore with some odd changes and character added. This movie truly divided its old fan base and its shows (Low in profit gain in cinema)... Due to the reason above, sorry but I cant support the movie.
