Well, I would like to think everyone's handling in the cast is true to its roots. Some of them might be unorthodox for some people, and even being uncapable of connecting, feeling good with the character while playing (Like myself and Marth and Megaman... And I'm honestly terrible while going with these characters) Also, the beginning of this video mentions how Ike makes you "learn the ropes in Smash", which is an actual thing both Ike and the player do on his first game.

Oh, I didn't mean it in a bad way! It was a tear of sentimentalism, not one of disappointment. I thought it was a beautiful description of how his character was designed and how he needs to be played. In a way, it also kinda made my ego bigger because I've solo mained him since Day 1. It was so hard for Ike to win in the early versions that I was forced to develop at least half-way decent fundamentals.

I think one thing you should have probably touched on is pivot grabbing and pivot f-tilting. Both are really useful as Ike in a variety of situations, but normally as a mix-up or to catch moves like Bayonnetta's slide kick or Falcon's Raptor Boost.
@laggalot10128 жыл бұрын
I love Pivot F-tilts with a lot of characters I play, and especially Ike. I might actually overuse it a bit. But it's so good. It's a good mix-up, it's pretty easy to space and typically hard to punish.
@bobsanders52258 жыл бұрын
Agreed, Ikes pivot F-tilt is such a great 'stay away' option due to its long range. It forces foes to respect you and prevents them from rushing you down, which many will try to do. His Pivot grab is also quite useful and is something you see Ryo take advantage of a lot. Ikes pivot grab really does a lot for his range and leads to his great Uthrow/Dthrow followups

@naverick228 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you made this guide. Especially since I'm an Ike main, I've been looking for a proper in-depth Ike guide, because I cannot personally make my own due to my limitations in recording stuff. I would also like to note several more things about Ike: - 14:47 A similar (true) combo here can be extended to deal ~100%, starting at 0%. For me, it's D-throw to footstool to D-air lock to N-air (after getup) to footstool to d-air to footstool to D-air to footstool to D-air to footstool to D-air to U-air. In training, this does 103% on omega. Can 0 to death on smaller stages (pls dont nerf sakurai). -F-air and B-air can autocancel when short-hopped without fast fall. - 12:32 this can meteor, but only when the opponent is onstage and its knockback is weak, so it's impractical. -12:48 If you don't want to risk killing yourself here and they don't tech on the way down, aim for the ledge on the way down, do a jump getup and follow up with a F-air (if they DI away or don't DI) or U-air (if they DI towards). -Ike can be GRABBED out of his U-special. If you hold shield while Ike tries to recover at about this height like at 13:06 , you can grab him after 3 shielded hits. The earlier you do it, the less likely he'll regain his double jump. You can also counter it and he most likely won't make it back. As Ike, you therefore have to learn how to recover very low or make use of your side-b. - If your opponent likes to punish getup options with attacks, a good mix-up is jump-getup-counter-cancel. Press jump or Up at the ledge and quickly (mash) counter. You;ll land on stage and have counter out. This is very good if the opponent is charging a smash attack. -Speaking of counter, Ike's counter is very good for edgeguarding. You can try to intercept a recovery option (that has a hitbox) and most of the time it'll smack 'em away. i.e. Ness, Mario, Corrin, etc. This doesn't work if their recovery quickly snaps on to the ledge i.e. Pikachu, Marth, Lucina, etc. why did you not talk about counter Izaw?
@walterpuff75098 жыл бұрын
made an ike guide on amino the other day. then i saw this
@bupegasus8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, but some addendums/questions: - Your first point has severe limitations. The combo shown in the minimizes the number of dair-footstools because after one dair footstool about half of the cast gets sent too high to do another one AND follow up, therefore you lose the additional 20 that comes if you just took the 70%. -12:32 Are you sure it can meteor or is that a stagespike effect? -12:48 it's not true, hitstun wears off by the time the ledgejump animation finishes. Unless they have a huge hurtbox (i.e. DK), they can usually jump away. If not, they can use an aerial, spotdodge, or whatever move to intercept. I thought this was a true thing but once people caught on they started countering my Fair or just jumping away. Around mid percents, like 60-80, they can't jump away fast enough so usually it becomes a 50-50 here. -Counter is only good against recoveries with hitboxes that extend above the stage. Yes, you could try to run off counter against some, but if you miss then you've given the opponent stage control and now you're being edgeguarded offstage, one of the worst places to be as an ike. Eruption is better overall. Counter is a one, two at best, mixup. You shouldn't be using it more than twice in a set. Thanks again for offering so much insight, just wanted to make it known that a lot of these bank on either lack of MU knowledge on the opponent's part or are read based. Kudos to you, fellow ike bro!
@walterpuff75098 жыл бұрын

@thirtytwomewtwos41288 жыл бұрын
Izaw probably didn't spend much time on Ike's counter because there are so many better options as Ike. Some characters, like Marth, find great use in their move set and play style to use the counter quite frequently by baiting the enemy into attacking using a mixture of feints and quick moves. Ike has enough pure, raw power to not have the necessity to use the counter quite as often.
@IzAwSmash8 жыл бұрын
Well.. there's not much to talk about.. It's literally just a counter.. plus I show an example of when it could be used here, 09:16. It's for reads

Ryo still has a long way to go though. I think, in the end, he lacks tournament exp, MUs, and even player experience. Essentially, he needs to go to more tourneys and play friendlies at those tourneys. I barely hear of him going to tourneys and it's not helping him. The guy can get to the top if he had more ambition.
@IzAwSmash8 жыл бұрын
It's not a question of ambition, it's time, career and money mostly
@RecordToDeathToBoredom8 жыл бұрын
IzawSmash Ambition can cover those too. If he has enough ambition, he can get a part-time job to make up for the money. I don't know about the time and career, but if he wants to accel somewhere more official and more respectable in society, then that's his choice. I just don't see it from the MVG streams. It felt like he and some of the crew have a lot of time on their hands.

Honestly Izaw, I have to say: Your videos on explanations about techniques and the "Art of (insert character here)" are amazing. The way you explain a character helps both the people who use the character, and who play against them. For the people going against them you don't necessarily point out the weaknesses in each character, but just the way you explain a character is more than enough to an experienced player to catch on on how to play better against said character. Also in the matter I main both Cloud and Falco, and their "Arts" videos greatly helped me get a better feeling and understanding of each character individually. Especially with Falco, since I've always loved the character but never managed to get anything going with him, that video definitely made a difference in my overall results with the character. Please don't stop making those, you're helping the Sm4sh community to improve in general, both new players just starting to learn new techniques and the fundamentals by watching your videos, and the more advanced players, to get a better understanding of their character, and the characters that they'll face. Love your videos, keep on with the good work! (P.S.: I said that I main Cloud and Falco, but I also have a third main. Could we maybe get an "Art of Roy" in the future? :3)

Izaw, I'm not sure how much attention you pay to every single comment, but if you happen to see this one, I'd like to kindly request for you to please contact me at some point regarding Roy. I am "Zan" of Kansas City, Missouri, I'm not a SUPER notable player like Ryo or StaticManny (now All Might), but I'm a Roy main who is at top level for his region who'd like to help with "The Art of Roy". It has always bothered me to see how little love my boy gets, and I'd like to take every chance I can get to help fix that. I'm not going to claim that I know everything there is to know about Roy (and honestly, I look forward to learning new things about him through this guide), but at the very least, I'd like to give notes regarding what I DO know and hope that something, if anything, I have to say makes it into the guide. That being said, If you have doubts as to how useful I can be for you, please take the chance to play me sometime! I feel like in his transition to Smash Ultimate, better as he is, Ike has lost something. His nair is frankly overcentralising. It ends up being the best option in so many scenarios now, especially because some of his other options were actually nerfed - dtilt, jab, and fair, for instance. Even his grab is worse. In Smash 4, things took more effort but it made him feel more rewarding to play, even if he was worse. Ike is in the spotlight now, which is something I think most of us Ike players have wanted for a long time. But, I'll look back on the days of Smash 4 Ike fondly.

blessed volty yeah his nair is just so infamous and too overcentralizing. It was already good before.

I like his old backflip I think it was easier to space with his backflip.

Thank you so much for this guide! I've been wanting to play Ike for some time now and this improved my game play a lot. Your presentation and delivery is also very well done. Keep it up!

this video was helpful... but I can't footstool.
@jonathanmonarrez30848 жыл бұрын
it's not too difficult actually. Simply jump as soon as your above your opponent. Even spamming jump (after the double jump has been utilized) and the footstool will come out! Much like regular jumps, you can short hop or full hop a footstool. A great way to practice footstools is in training. Set the bot to different settings (stay, jump, run, shield) for better training.

Possibly the best guide I've seen on Ike. I dabbled in him for a while but after playing Path of Radiance I felt I just had to pick him up as one of my mains. I'm gonna try and apply some of what I seen here onto some games. Thanks for this!!

How to raise mag stat?
@Ash_Wen-li8 жыл бұрын
Screw magic, Ike needs a couple speedwings and his long range energy wave,
@belbercike23448 жыл бұрын
Mag stat is useless at this point. If you want magic, use some customs.
@Ash_Wen-li8 жыл бұрын
Blue Fire Well the magic stat was always useless on Ike unless you were to give him the Sonic Sword or Runesword (but Ragnell is superior to both anyway) or give him imbue.

7.8/10 for not using path of radiance or radiant dawn music. In all honestly though, this guide was superb and the amount of effort you put into these guides really shows. Keep up the good work

While PoR or RD music would have suited it better, I loved the jazz covers and found a new channel because of them.

I've been playing Ike for a long time - a LONG time. Since the Brawl days, actually. But this video showed me things I never knew. It was extremely well made and even touching at times. The simple yet complex nature of Ike (and of Sm4sh as a whole, by extension) is a thing to wonder at. I'll definitely take your advice to mind as I continue my adventures with this character. Thank you.

Why did I find about your videos this late! But damn I'm glad i did. I kept watching the pro tournaments and all the comments trying to understand and imply those to my game without really knowing exactly how. This guide clarifies all my lack of gameplay knowledge so much. Thank you!

Choosing an obscure character to make a guide on really captures the communities attention. Especially when they are so well done like this :) im not sure what your schedule is but if you were to take suggestions i'd choose my main Zelda or my new main G&W. Keep up the good work :)
