Nice video. Pretty interesting evolution indeed. Honestly, out of all the characters mentioned, I feel like Fox's combos have evolved the most, and it was definitely Light who took the character's combos to the next level, being one of the players who SOLO main their character too. Truly amazing, maybe even underrated player I feel like.

No sheik showcase, sadge :( Jokes aside, still a great watch. Sometimes we forget how far the meta evolved, but if you watch year one footage you get reminded.

Sheik's had a crazy renaissance. We went from the horizontal routes of Smash 4, doing very little damage, and DI down/away nullifying bfish finishers. Nowadays we're comboing vertically to bair finishers for a ton of damage and putting people in nasty positions trying to land or go to ledge.
@octaviodelbarrio9 ай бұрын
@@jessieansell6168needles having almost no landing lag was huge so we can combo with anything out of that and also footstool dair from needles and oos has been really good for killing with bad DI on dair (webb is also using footstool dair fron tech chases as well). And if it wasn't enough, the void stuff with the knee hitbox of ftilt alongside slowfall up air and jab loops have been insane for getting early kills as sheik, can't wait for Webb to implement those.

Great video! I also would have mentioned rob combos as very simple things like double toss and up air have been used to get 0tds easier and sheik, whose meta still keeps getting developed and got so much better after the buffs. I would have also mentioned witch strike for bayo because although it's really hard to execute, it can cheese stocks really easily (such as the demon vs spargo clip at mainstage)

The mega man section was pretty off We had those combos way before 2023. I could even do triple zdrop dair into stuff (not into full kill combo) but I wasn't even THAT good, and was aware of those that could do the full thing while clip fishing. The segment also tragically left out the very interesting series of nerfs that DRASTICALLY hindered his initially insane pseudo-infinites and stuff off item mechanics, leaf shield 2frames faster, and "lemon salad" (grounded pellets could originally be canceled into leaf shield) The current meta stuff mega can do is pretty, and wasn't covered much (was around for a while, but his airdodge-zdrop is very plus on shield and also has crazy hitstun for combos, leads into grounded footstool or whatever you want)

Man some chars in ultimate have cool combo games. I think the only thing I’d like from Smash 6 is if more chars got as much combo potential as these chars.
@IamNster9 ай бұрын
That first combo ended at 10 but ok (Spargo just happened to follow that airdodge). Edit: The title is misleading as hell tbh. While a few of these are definitely combos (Pika bridges, Peach everything), most of this is just some combos mixed in with good advantage state to keep the "combo" going. If they have time to mash a defensive option, it's by definition not a combo because that usually implies that they can escape.
@captainswitchblade50719 ай бұрын
Why was I thinking the same thing like the title should be the evolution of Advantage State or something cause it’s combos and strings being shown
@KevSB079 ай бұрын
Well the title seems to use a definition of combo that includes but isn’t limited to “true combos” Which is honestly fair for a video like this, imo. It would be kind of limiting to restrict the conversation to only the development of true, inescapable combos. Though, Id agree that we can’t really call all combo-advantage sequences “combos”
@captainswitchblade50719 ай бұрын
@@KevSB07 Exactly, that’s why I was thinking it should be called the evolution of advantage state especially considering the clips at the start was combos but primarily the advantage state

this is such an odd (bad) video lol, half of the examples are more situational awareness things than any optimization in strings, the gluto section states one change (up tilt nerf) with none of the old examples actually having a single up tilt? Then they show a bunch of different gluttony combos which all arose from varying degrees of situational awareness and are more of character understanding and reads than "combos" the only really good example here was pikachu and peach imo but even then these clips needed a heavy amount of cherrypicking to push their narratives
@bitotaru9 ай бұрын
the cherrypicking is most egregious in the wolf section lol you have to be honest with yourselves the majority of wolf players still do combos people found on day one, and cdk is still the only one that actually consistently did the shine/side-b stuff in bracket
