Smelly Aircon? Here's a 5 minute fix to remove that mouldy AC smell from your car air conditioning!

As your car gets older, it's normal for your aircon to develop a mouldy smell. My Ranger has just started to smell a little bit off in the past year, so today I'll show you how to get rid of that bad smell and get your airconditioning system smelling fresh again!

If you have a cabin filter, I think you also need to make sure that is removed while you spray so the spray can work in all the ducts. Replace cabin filter when you done.

This particular product didn't mention removing the cabin filter - perhaps to keep the instructions more generic. To give the AC system a real thourough freshen up, installing a brand new cabin filter while doing the clean would be the way to go - I might do this next time. 🙂

Don't bother, I did both. Sprayed the car initially with the cabin filter in as it does not say on the instruction to remove it. The result is no improvement. I did another spray after a couple of days with the cabin filter removed (note: the cabin filter is new) and still no improvement with the smell. Immediately after spraying the car would smell menthol inside then after few hours the original smell of the cabin before you sprayed it will come back. This thing does not work

Thank you for this tutorial, I had a bad smell in my car only to find out it was spilt coffee behind the astray sitting in there for a long time while in the process of steam cleaning the interior. Despite this, The smell still remained so I resorted to getting the vents sprayed and would also recommend for everyone to replace the a/c filter. It should only cost about $20 extra from a local automotive store.

Great little clip mate, I'll have to try it. I hunted everywhere to find a can of "Find that Wet Towel Under Your Seat" but apparently supercheap were all sold out ! 😆😆 great clip mate, have to let us know the longevity of it too, how long it lasted in the car keeping it smelling fresh. Cheers

This stuff is pretty expensive at $37 a can from Supercheap Auto! I’ve found Power Force Anti Bac Plus Surface Spray Disinfectant 300g can at Aldi for less than $4, available in 3 different smells also works, kills the mould and bacteria that cause the nasty smell 😀.

Sure was, once the peppermint smell had worn off (after 3-4 days) the end result was no smell of any kind which was perfect 👍

These won't work except very temporarily; you need to get cleaner spray / foam inside the A/C evaporator via a tube - usually about a litre of A/C cleaning fluid / foam; and check that the drain isn't blocked; which it well could be.
