I'm in this weird situation. I've been snowboarding for around 5 years and feel very comfortable on a snowboard. I can 100% handle like any terrain or conditions and the hardest slopes on the mountain with confidence and ease. But for some reason park features scare the hell out of me. Even tiny flat boxes that are level with the ground. I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack when Im looking down the hill at a rail or box. Jumps are the same way. It's really frustrating because I really want to be able to board in the park with my friends. I just can't get past the mental hurtle.

Take it easy. Jump onto pillows at home. Go the the easiest/smallest box/rail. Go bare-foot, see how's to be on top of it without the snowboard, then run over it, slide on it, even pretend to f**k (censorship just in case) if it helps. Take a friend if you want. Then put your snowboard on and inch it. Small steps make the long ride. Approach it inch by inch. Stand on it. Take a friend to pull or push you a bit. Your friends will understand. Then, when you're confident enough, go like .5 miles/hour towards it. You may even stop on or before it 'cause friction, but everything helps. First time I went on a rail I was listening to one of my favorite songs and told myself "It only takes a second of courage to become invincible". Prior to that, while climbing the hill, I told a friend "I'm sorry if you have to wait for me, but the only way I'm coming down this hill is on that rail". And I did. I face planted the f**k out of it, and we laughed like hell and I went back up to do it like 20 times that day. Hope it helps! Tell me when you do it, (if you haven't already done it in which case awesome! You rock!) because you will do it at some point and realize it only took a second to tear down that mental wall. Good luck, mate!

This actually helped me out a lot. last night I did my first boardslide on a 1 foot wide downbox. Before that all I could really do was ride slowly across super low wide flatboxes. And even those freaked me out. Thanks much for the motivation :D

Hey, this is kinda late but i have the same problem. There is a terrain park at the resort i go to and even though there's a few rails and low-jumps, I blank out- and fake-out. i just cant do it. but recently i mastered my carving skills, and I'm feeling really confident in myself. You seem A pro at casual and hardcore riding, but you cant commit and don't even think. What i tell myself is, "Even though its scary, you have to commit and conquer the jumps/Boxes." and i don't think about me getting hurt, and me slipping because i believe in myself. i believe in you and hope you can conquer the Park! (Tell me if this Helped or not)

This is late as well but something that helped me with jumps at least is first practicing Ollie’s outside the park on bumps and side hits to build my confidence. Previously when I tried a jump I just let myself run off the edge and froze in the air. Of course, I fell. After practicing Ollie’s tho I decided to go back in the park and try to get more pop of the jump and I found myself in more control in the air. I think it was because I went in with an attempt to pop but maybe it was just having more confidence and not listening to my fear. Either way I hope this helps

Cool! Thanks, I've always been more of a downhill rider & I'm interested in playing around in the park 😃 In the past few years I've only gotten a few days on the mountain, next week I'll be up for 3 days are so (in a row) for a ski/board trip. Beyond stoked & these vids are helping me mentally prep for getting back into riding! Cheers 🙏🏽

A slightly softer board &/or stiffer bindings or boots could help with that. If your bindings have different holes for the ankle straps back on the heel loop, you can always put them on a higher up setting if they're not already to help out with that as well, it makes a difference, but basically, obviously, you just have to lean further & find the sweet spot, regardless. Try the ankle strap setting first, then take it from there.

Hey Kevin, I am going to Portland this October and just wanted to ask you, what are some good resorts to go to for snowboarding park and powder? Because I was doing my research on Timberline and they don't seem to be the best for October snowboarding. If High Cascade is the best, then could you maybe send me a way to contact them and ride there for a day? Thanks, my name is Ethan by the way.
@SnowboardProCamp
@SnowboardProCamp 7 жыл бұрын
+Ethan Draman that's a good question. I've never actually been snowboarding in October before! I'd same the best resort is which ever one is open!
@ethandraman1355
@ethandraman1355 7 жыл бұрын
Ya IDK because Timberline said that October is a bad time to go for consistency on being able to go. They said that they'd have to take me up on a snowcat. So I was just wondering if you knew any places that might be better for having everything, like parks and powder at that time. Would it be possible that you could give to me a way to contact High Cascade?
