You know, I must say there are two great things about the 998 turbo. Not just what it is in stock form, but also what it can be. With less then overwhelming effort it can be readily converted from great white shark on the lake to invincible megalodon monster. It is an engine that has tons more to give without changing the real bones. It’s almost difficult to imagine that the 998 is the fastest and most powerful production snowmobile engine ever created to date.

The 2019 Ski-Doo Renegade X-RS 900 ACE TURBO is actually a four stroke engine, not a two stroke, the two stroke engine is the 850 ACE E TEC. The 900 ACE TURBO Dry Weight is 536 lbs. A Yamaha Sidewinder depending on the length of the track weighs in at about 620 lbs.

Both are incredible machines, but if these sleds are aimed at instant power they will eventually turn electric. As far as 4 strokes, I still put my faith in Yamaha. @@nate199813 cat was the first to go 4 stroke. As far as reliability, ski Doo hasn't had a reliability issue with any of their 4 stroke motors. None of the manufacturers have actually. Quality is a different story. Yamahas quality was not good. They couldn't engineer their way around a chassis if their business depended on it. That's why they let Arctic cat do that now. Yamaha has not built a great all around snowmobile until cat came into the picture. Have you ever seen the suspension on an Apex, nytro, or phazer? They were the heaviest piles of junk out there. I'm a fan of Yamaha, but I think your looking through blue colored glasses if you think nothing was close. Reality is nobody could compete with ski doo's 2009 1200 until 2012. And the other 4 strokes didn't step beyond the 1200 until 2017... That was a decade of dominance and is the reason ski Doo outsells the other 2 manufacturers in 4 strokes even if you combined them.

So again Yamaha ain't as reliable especially now with AC chassis. We don't have the fleet size we used to have before this Covid bs but yeah yam ain't like they were even from only a few years ago. We've had two brand Yamaha's break the shock at the bracket with it bolts to the ski with less than 1000kms on one and just over 500kms on another and a blown piston on the same one when it hit just over 750km not counting other issues over the years. Three years or so ago we lost the motor in an Apex that we used for demo's at ground level. Of course they are still more reliable than cat but not by much since the chassis change, now our sleds get a pounding from customers but out of the three brands we have used Skidoo is more reliable. We gave up buying new Cat three years ago because of problems and will only buy them used with low kms just to cut cost.

@@UvidCo well from what you mentioned that broke shocks are not made by Yamaha. And seeing you brought up shocks I’ve seen them break or seal give out on every sled. Again maintaining a sled is a big plus. Everyone that talks about Yamaha being reliable just like the one guy is talking about motors. Even this channel the guy has mentioned numerous times on other videos Yamaha has the most reliable motor and he has seen them as well with over 50,000 miles. Also don’t tell me ski doo is so reliable cause I’ve seen many recalls for motor replacements, wiring harnesses cause of sleds burning to the ground and so on. My friend works at a ski doo dealership he tells me what’s good and what to stay away from in the years they have problems. I also have a ski doo and Yamaha so you know I’m not just one brand guy. I just know overall 4stroke wise Yamaha has reliability down better with their motors. I hope with Yamaha working with A/C things get better like their fit to finish has been which Yamaha has been known for on their bikes and other equipment as well.

Anyone who rides snowmobiles aggressively knows that Yamaha and Arctic cat handle like garbage. Anyone can stick a heavy, high horsepower motor in a snowmobile and make it pretty. BRP spends more money on R&D than all of the competition combined and they make very reliable machines that out-handle the competition. Lower center of gravity and lower weight means better handling on the 900 ACE. Plain and simple. Doesn't matter how much raw horsepower the Yamacat has, its not going to beat the ski-doo on the trails. Not to mention the suspension design on the Ski-Doo's is 5 years ahead of the Arctic Cat/Yamaha

I don’t have anything against slow riders but if you are trying to take your sled to the max then you need a lighter sled with a lower center of gravity. The weight of the rider has nothing to do with the performance of the sled. For slow riders like yourself, the Yamaha is good enough because you aren’t trying to push the sled to the max. Before you spout off about the horsepower of the Yamaha, try to understand that a higher horsepower sled does not mean it is faster. The amount of speed that the machine can hold through the turns is key.

@@hiby9105 hp means a faster sled on a straightaway. often the more powerful sleds are slower on any trails with turns because they are heavier. the acceleration does not beat the speed that a better handling sled can hold through the turns. I would tend to agree with you on the 07 sled that you are talking about. The older machines had less suspension and a lower center of gravity. because of the lower center of gravity they handle better. the old sleds actually handle really well, they are just a rougher ride. In this video they point out that the ski doo has a lower center of gravity and it weighs less. guess what that means? it handles better than the yamaha talked about in this video.

I think there’s a lot of 2-stroke traditionalists out there that may believe that a changing industry is going to leave them behind or phase them out in favor of 4-strokes. I don’t think this is true. There is a place for both to exist and each have unique advantages and disadvantages. What bothers me is that I see and hear a lot of the 2-stroke loyalists throwing out a lot of false gripes at the 4’s, seemingly based on their lacking familiarity or concern for 2’s being threatened out of existence, or perhaps both. The sport has room for new ideas. It all depends on what your looking to do with the sled and the old adage still exists: “Different strokes for different folks.” I know that was corny, but it’s true.

Give it a year skidoo will shorten the intake trac. After market tunes will push a reliable 180-190 HP from the ACE & doos superior chassis & light weight will prove to be a better overall ride. I run a N/A ACE with some "tuning" & I SMOKE 600 2 strokes in turns & short trail sections. I'd be happy with about 165 HP from that ACE anything else is really not needed... Except on a long stretch.
@MrJohnboe5 жыл бұрын
But aftermarket tunes increase Yam by same amount so not fair to up one and not the other. No replacement for displacement and Doo has to increase that to a 1000 cc. That said, they weren't intending to compete for top power/speed but best overall snowmobile (handling, weight) and they won there.
