Back in my day at PWM, we used to de-ice in open-bucket deicing rigs. What a joy that was on a snow day with heavy wind.

Deicing takes FOREVER at CMH, sometimes you'll have 4 planes lined up and it takes a half hour before deicing begins, but luckily the taxi from the apron where they do the deicing to the runway is quick, unless they're departing RW10L/10R

Thanks for the video! A long long time ago I worked at PWM. The days of elderly B727s from People Express, new crazy overpowered B757s that were 1000 ft AGL seconds after departure roll, Samantha Smith, and an airline pilot falling out of the cabin door at altitude (and surviving). ...

Yeah they throttled up on the runway for a few seconds before releasing the brake. This is typical in snowy conditions to run any ice/snow contamination through the engines.

RON? What is that?
@flapsnslats20 күн бұрын
Stands for “remain over night,” referring to planes that fly from hubs to outstations, spend the night there, and then fly back to the hub early the next morning. RONs are important connectivity feeders in a hub and spoke model.

Pilots always have to have to put a post-it note on the MAX in the winter. CAUTION! DO NOT USE THE DE-ICER FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES. THE ENGINE WILL *EXPLODE!!* ☠!!!" 🤦 Geez. I'm so tired of hearing about "quality escapes". Boeing lost its way...☠
@iflyplanes687Ай бұрын
As someone who flies the Max, you are overdramatizing this limitation. The 5 minute limitation you speak of is only for operation in DRY air and in very specific environmental conditions that you’d never be using anti ice anyways. When flying in conditions like you see in this video, since the air is NOT dry and ground contamination exists, there is no limitation and is on continuously.
@deuce9starАй бұрын
Additionally, Boeing does not make the engines for the 737Max. They are powered by CFM LEAP 1B engines so blame the manufacture of the engines and stop blaming Boeing for everything.
@Blank0025 күн бұрын
@@deuce9starthis is a nacelle issue that only Boeing can redesign, so this is on Boeing. To Boeing’s credit, a redesign is in the works. That said, your point would be valid for the another issue, one that involves an “LRD”.
@deuce9star24 күн бұрын
@Blank00 Your absolutely correct! The nacelle is where the anti-ice mechanism functions. Bleed air comes from the engine that’s hot and warms it up which melts ice. That’s crazy because I’m an avid aviation geek and I knew this already but it didn’t click in my brain because I was thinking of it as an engine issue. So I stand corrected. Thanks for the info! Most people blame Boeing without really knowing that they don’t build all the parts of the aircraft. So I’m curious to know what this issue concerning “LRD” is about? 🤔🧐👀
@Blank0024 күн бұрын
@ It’s a component found in newer engines that GE gas worked on, like GE90, GENX, GP7200, GE9X, and CFM LEAP. The LEAP is the first time LRD is in a smaller engine. Basically what it is is that when something gets ingested, the LRD decouples some parts so that other parts don’t get impacted as much.
