Its like that book the hobbit. Short book which they did add a whole lot of filler for 3 movies. I suspect we will see a lot of added things here even if it's one movie.

Maybe they could add stuff from the sequel to this - The Return of Effie Kolb but since there's a time jump involved, it might not be ideal.

I don't know about that. Yes, the main villain of that book has the same name, but he's a version of Rumpelstiltskin. But Mignola does like using myths and folklore so the name could be a reference.
