I watched this show because the animation looked interesting, but then the STORY. The focus on class struggles, revolution, romance(well written women), and pretty battles paired with original music. I watched it 2 more times and it got me hyped enough to play the game just for lore😭

I just wanna point out that Netflix had no hand in the production of this show, only the distribution. It was produced by Riot Games and Fortiche, which is a French animation studio that Riot has effectively been funding for years and two of Riot's executives are on its board. The writing, music, and much of the production was also wholly by Riot, and that of course includes the soundtrack and all its songs, which were made for the show (including Enemy, though Imagine Dragons wrote that for the show rather than it being written for them like as with the rest of the songs. Imagine Dragons are fans of League of Legends and have worked with Riot in the past with Warriors, which was written for the 2014 World Championship).

Fun fact: The Undercity (at least the deeper parts of it) used to be a mine, that's why the air is so dense and overall bad, and it's the reason most topsiders, incluiding the Inforcers, use gasmasks when they go there. Also it's fun how in the Uppercity, because of clean air, all inforcers are unmasked. So the Uppercity sees people doing their job, and the Undercity sees faceless monsters.

I was sorta obsessed with the show and the more I rewatch it the more little details and symbolism I pick up on. Like seeing that cat scene with more context and overall knowledge on the show and the League universe in general, it was such an amazing realization. Just the little things like the camera angles and composition of each frame in the show is just done soo intentionally and its amazing.

You must continue watching. The most compelling part of Arcane is nobody is evil, and nobody is good. Every single character is morally grey, because they all are doing what they think is right and have flaws. You may not agree with some characters and how they handle things, but you can see every single characters perspective and why they make the choices they do. A true, modern day shakespearean tragedy.

I agree that the character building is incredibly compelling, but a writer has to be very good to pull off the position of no (or several) clear protagonist(s). Storytelling 101 tells us that a story has a protagonist who undergoes a change over the course of the allotted time, a change that is caused by an antagonist (which could be a character, the environment, lots of choices). No or many protagonists leaves the problem of "who changes?" in order to bring the story to a climax. Arcane didn't do this successfully, in my opinion. It ended up being a really cool series of events with supercool characters, but failed to land on "story."

Jinx's VA (Ella Purnell) made a strong impression on me with her acting so I decided to watch a show called Yellowjackets where she's also starring. Amazing show, great for reactions too, I think.

I definitely want more lol, this is my favorite show ever. No lie. Yes, even more than stuff like Succession or The Americans. Maybe not than The Wire, but this is definitely the most tightly constructed show, and the best first season of any show I've ever seen. It's SOO well constructed, front to back, back to front EVERYTHING is deliberate, and every shot serves multiple purposes, let alone scenes and plotlines. Also, I would avoid visiting Powder's shop on Etsy unless you want the NCA busting down your door for buying nail bombs. Just saying.

The water and air in the undercity is contaminated with some kind of toxic waste. Hence them not being able to jump into the water and get the bag. The people living there grew up in it so it no longer visually affects them, but does cause long-term problems. The evil guy is the one who will explain the immediate side effects of breathing/ingesting the toxins, but there is also a guy from topside that shows you how it affects the people of the undercity.

The best way to view is apparently 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 since those are considered the arcs. I wasnt to interested until episode 3 so I do recommend getting into it before having a set opinion. Also the dragons have a music video for enemy (i wouldnt watch until you finish the show since they show spoilers).
