You have to check out "Soak Up the Sun", "The First Cut is the Deepest", "A Change Will Do You Good", and "Real Gone". The 90s wouldn't have been the 90s without Sheryl Crow! I would add that of all the solo female artists of the 90s, the ones with the most radio hits (that I remember) were Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, and Sarah McLachlan. PLEASE do Sarah McLachlan! From Wikipedia: "The lyrics of the song are based on the poem "Fun" by Wyn Cooper. Cooper was inspired to write the poem by a conversation at a bar with a friend and occasional writer, Bill Ripley (died 2006), in which he said "All I want is to have a little fun before I die", which became the first line of the poem. In a 1994 interview, Cooper said: "The poem isn't really about him. Or me. They're different people. They're people you can sort of see as ... well ... objective correlatives. Symbols of people like us, or what we could have been, or what we would have become if we continued to drink and do nothing with our lives." Crow's producer (Bottrell) discovered Cooper's poetry book The Country of Here Below in a Pasadena, California, used bookstore. Crow had written a song called "I Still Love You" but was unhappy with its lyrics; she used its melody and adapted the poem for her lyrics to "All I Wanna Do". The song earned Cooper considerable royalties and helped to promote his book, originally published in a run of only 500 copies in 1987, into multiple reprints.After the song became popular, Ripley brought an unsuccessful lawsuit against Cooper for some of the song's royalties, which ended their friendship."

Before Sheryl recorded her first album she was a Missouri elementary school music teacher making 17k a year. She auditioned for a McDonald's commercial and landed it. The commercial went national and she was paid 42k for it. She then went to Hollywood and waited tables at a cafe where record industry people ate at. She handled out her demo and got fired for it, but not before landing a national Toyota commercial which paid her 67k. This story came from her interview on Howard Stern. She's had a pretty blessed career, she toured with Michael Jackson on his Bad tour as a backup singer from 1987-1989. Her Wikipedia page is worth looking at. She's worked with a ton of people. Her cover of Sweet Child of Mine is pretty decent in it's own way.

On this song, Sheryl Crow's singing reminds me a little of Rickie Lee Jones, who you MUST react to. She came out in the early '80s and had a cool, hippie vibe. Try her big hit "Chuck E.s in Love" or "Coolsville." Definitely use a lyric video because she can sometimes be hard to understand but she is great!

TOTALLY agree that they MUST react to Rickie Lee Jones. However, my suggestion as a first introduction to Rickie would be either Danny's All-Star Joint or Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Peking. Odds are that they would probably react to Chuck E's In Love because it was such a big hit, but I hope they do one of her album cuts. The lyric video suggestion is a great idea.
@tifluckenbill15862 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love Sheryl and I have to jump in on the Rickie Lee Jones recommendation!!! She has a lot of the things you guys love. “Chuck E’s in Love” was her breakout hit, “Last Chance Texaco” is utter, vibey brilliance and widely regarded as a masterpiece. I know you guys appreciate stories and characters so two of my favorites for that would be “Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Peking” and “We Belong Together” (which brings me to tears … not sure why :-) . Also, as someone else mentioned, look for lyric videos. Rickie has a lot of jazz cool in her and her voice is used almost instrumentally which sometimes makes the lyrics hard to grab. Your reactions are currently my favorite rabbit hole to fall down! Thanks!

Amber & Jordan, the instrument 🎻 that U here it scratching in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 they called it a Guiro. The güiro is commonly used in Puerto Rican 🇵🇷, Cuban 🇨🇺 and other forms of Latin American music 🎶 , and plays a key role in the typical rhythm section of important genres like son, trova and salsa 💃 . Playing the güiro usually requires both long and short sounds, made by scraping up and down in long or short strokes. The güiro, like the maracas, is often played by a singer 👩🎤 . It is closely related to the Cuban 🇨🇺 guayo, Dominican 🇩🇴 güira, and Haitian 🇭🇹 graj which are made of metal. Other instruments similar to the güiro are the Colombian 🇨🇴 guacharaca, the Brazilian 🇧🇷 reco-reco, the quijada (cow jawbone) and the frottoir (French) 🇫🇷 or fwotwa (French Creole) (washboard).

Ms Crow was a background singer for many stars who finally got a break and became a star herself . This was her first hit . Its recognizable as the old STEALERS WHEEL song , with new lyrics about LA by someone who loves California .

This song is from the poem by American poet Wyn Cooper (lyrics). Worth checking out his other poetry--some fantastic stuff (as is Sheryl Crow's song).

I LOVE Sheryl Crow, & all her songs are good. But, one I was blown away by (& most people probably haven't heard) was when she sang The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" during "The Motown Sound: In Performance at the White House". Her pronunciation & style were dead on perfect. If she had sung the song 1 or 2 octaves higher, she would have sounded exactly like Michael Jackson! The reason she did such a perfect rendition? She was a backup singer for Michael during his "Bad" tour from 1987 to 1989!
