Such a great song, and maybe one of the most-played songs on Easy Listening radio in the late 70s. For more great Lionel-led songs, try "Three Times a Lady", "Still", "Oh No", or "Old Fashion Love". You also might consider doing "Nightshift", their tribute to the legend and legacy of Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson (which they recorded after Lionel left the group to go solo). OR.... if you want to get more into Lionel's solo stuff (you've only done "Hello" so far), you can do "Endless Love" (a truly magnficient duet with Diana Ross), "Truly", "You Are", "My Love", "All Night Long", or "Say You, Say Me". That's guitar solo is (at least partially) the sound you get when running the guitar directly into the recording console and cranking up the gain knob, so it gets crunchy and has lots of high end (as opposed to the usual method of recording the guitarists amp with a microphone). This track might actually be a blend of the direct to console signal with a mic'd amp (maybe running through a fuzz pedal too).

Amber and Jay, you just can't go wrong with the Commodores! So many hits and great memories. Another one I'd recommend is "Zoom". It holds a special meaning for The Commodores. It was written by Ronald LaPread and Lionel Richie. Ronald LaPread's wife, Cathy, had cancer and he began composing it and she gave him some ideas for the melody and Lionel put the words to it. Cathy passed away before the song was released. I think you'll really enjoy it when you know the meaning behind it.

I've lived in Alabama my whole life and been a country musician my whole life and Easy is one of my all time favorite songs. Lionel was born and raised in Tuskegee and the Commodores were formed at Tuskegee Institute. They were basically a funk band but Lionel took them in more of a pop/country direction. Songs like Sail On, Stuck On You, Deep River Woman I always thought were country songs. I always thought Lionel should do a country album which he finally did about 15 years ago. On that album he did a very cool version of Easy with Willie Nelson. The horns, the guitar solo and of course Lionel's piano and vocal....Easy is definitely in this country boy's top 5 all-time favorite songs.

5:00 the guitar sound is from a type of guitar effect known as a "fuzz pedal". Electric guitarists can put electronic devices between the guitar and the amplifier to modify the signal in different ways, called "pedals" or "stomp boxes". There's dozens of different kinds of effects you can put in your signal chain, like chorus, echo, phaser, overdrive, Wah, compression, etc. This one is a classic "fuzz pedal" though.

Faith No More does a great cover of this song. Edited to say I now see many people commented the same thing but I'll add Mike Patton is the greatest vocalist in the industry.

I just checked the comments to make sure someone mentioned Faith No More.

Three Times a Lady! Fits perfectly behind Easy. Thanks for your reaction to this.

I think of "Not once...Not twice, but three times a lady", when they do their introduction to their videos. When I think of that song, I think of Newman singing it.

You should check out "Zoom", "Fancy Dancer", "Three Times a Lady", "Oh No" and "Sweet Love" by the Commodores.

If you liked this song then another song that has a great smooth sound and excellent drum beat is "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by The Spinners. You'll LOVE it :)
