The idea of catching the 1st wave sounds like fun! Kinda like surfing into bed. 🌊 I learned a long time ago I couldn't fall asleep if I thought about the real world. So I make up pictures in my head wherein I design houses or travel to invented places and this "disconnect" works great. 🌫️

I can't remember which comedian said it but they had a bit about people who can't sleep. Basically he asked, "you know who doesn't have trouble sleeping? Construction workers." I did construction work when I was younger and I would nap on my lunch break and sleep as soon as I got home from work.🤣

The 4-7-8 breathing method works great for overactive minds. Breath in for 4 counts filling up the diaphragm, hold breath for 7 counts and exhale for 8 counts. Works like a charm!

I do everything in the video and my sleep was good but not excellent (waking up too early). Then a week ago I started a breathing exercise before bed. 4 counts in and 8 counts out. Simple. This has worked beyond all expectation. Sleep is now excellent, confirmed by my Oura ring. HRV up too.

I get the "hypnotic jerk" at night, it makes me bolt awake when i get the falling sensation, I read it means one part of my brain is falling to sleep but other parts of my brain are still active and wont settle in for sleep for the night. Anyway, an article I read said it was due to stress and anxiety. Which could be true since my heart does palpitate in a panic and I feel like I'm not breathing enough. It is annoying. I hope trying out Dr Berg's tips that I get my sleeping back to normal. I want good sleep back so much.

Before HRT I couldn't sleep for days on end. I would begin to feel feverish and see flashing lights when I closed my eyes, my body ached and it was honestly terrible. Hrt helped tremendously. Nothing else helped, unfortunately. But these are all solid tips to try first. Sleep feels so amazing. I never realized how restorative and important it was until I spent years going so many nights without it. I actually think I might have some cognitive issues that are permanent from chronic, severe insomnia. I definitely do not feel as sharp as I used to and this concerns me. It seems to be getting a little better and hoping good sleep will heal whatever damage was done.

I am 67 yrs. old & I have fibromyalgia, and have done the keto diet for 3 yrs. I think that previously working nights for 13 yrs ruined my body and sleep, but I haven't worked that shift since 1998. I don't take naps. Feel worse if I try to. I am just thankful that I have the opportunity to sleep every night.

I noticed a long time ago that I sleep better in a cool room, especially if I need to cover up, even if just slightly. By the same token, I've also noticed that if I wake up sooner than I'd like to get up, and so decide to just keep laying there, I sometimes start to feel hotter (not quickly, but neither slowly), and need to uncover to prevent sweating. Once I cool off again, I can usually just cover up and go right back to sleep. How weird is that.

I been on Keto for several months now, and have had minimal and sometimes moderate levels of sleep disturbances. This evening my family had a bonfire where we used skewers to cook various meats. It was so delicious that I overate,, and had around 16 ounces of protien and nothing else except a diet soda. I went to bed 2 hors later.. I fell asleep just fine, but after 2 hours of sleep I woke up COMPLETELY WIRED. I had no idea what was happening but was compelled to get up and I began pacing the floor because my body just had to MOVE. Now, after watching this video, I know I screwed up by eating so much protien before bed! Hopefully tomorrow is different.... I don't think I'm sleeping tonight!

I have to be very cool in order to sleep. We're talking just a t-shirt and sheet and 1 cotton blanket up to my waist in the New England winter. If I'm any warmer, my back will itch like crazy. I also have to put a lot of miles on my sneakers, like 6 miles every other day. 2 miles is nowhere near enough. I'm 64 and have never been an athlete. The mileage helps me feel balanced, and expansive, even. If I change coffee brands, that can be enough to change my sleep.

My poor wife gets no sleep. It’s been a year+ since she’s gotten more than 2 hours of sleep per night. I think the only reason she’s still alive is by taking a nap once in a while. She’s tried ev-rey-thing. She is exhausted . We go to bed around 9pm every night when she can no longer stay awake. Last night she fell asleep within minutes and woke up 2 hours later and never went back to sleep. Today she is barely functioning. We just don’t get it. Saying it’s terrible is an understatement.

@Nizam Ansari we have found no solution, but thankfully, she is doing better. She still has nights with only a couple/few hours of sleep, but more nights than not, she will sleep 5 or 6 hours. Still not enough sleep, but SO much better. Thank you for asking, and Happy Easter!

What works for me and this has been a constant problem for many years is to go sit on the toilet even if I don't feel the necessary urge whether I know it or not. and after the bm occurs I can easily fall asleep and begin to feel tired. It also happens while I'm sleeping, I wake up in the middle of the night and wonder why I'm awake and can't go back to sleep either. FYI if this helps with any data collecting I'm in your area from Warrenton.

Try using a large fan on high. It will introduce "white noise" which can be better than silence. I use a water cooling fan in summer.

I have several of these problems. I worked night shift for 5 years, and even now that I’m back to day shift I’m exhausted all day but when I get home I’m wired. I don’t drink any caffeine and have been on keto for 3 years now.. Also my wife keeps a space heater running in the bedroom, even during the summer, because she is always cold. I can’t remember the last time I felt rested, and weekdays blur together until I crash on the weekend and end up sleeping for 12-18 hours at a time.

Hopefully you see this comment Dr. Berg, because my doctors cannot help me. I have bad pain behind my eyes, nausea and neck pain. I am not sure if it is related to an unruptured aneurysm. Can you talk about eye pain or aneurysms, and is there some way to reverse a bulge in your blood vessels? I do not want to get a cat scan or surgery.
