This election was not like others. This election was about having half the country that voted for a sexual predator am then I remember that I was one of those preyed upon. I spent the afternoon the elections having flashbacks of the day I was a 9 years old of that assault. I agree we go on but this election was not the same.

This one was SO different from previous elections. I long for the days when debates were civil enough to have an audience that would ask each candidate thought-provoking and important questions. I long for the days when I could listen to an incoming president speak and think, "I may not have voted for that person, but I respect who the country has chosen and trust that they will hold themselves to as high a standard as the office requires." No election solves every issue, no election brings about complete peace and confidence, no candidate is the savior. This one was different. Forget about the policies: this one brought out the absolute worst in humanity. We might be fearful about what the next four years will hold, but I think we're more reeling with the fact that so many people voted for a convicted felon and someone found liable of sexual abuse of a woman (which for all intents and purposes means 🍇). It did not matter to them. It did not matter. THAT is what I am grappling with.

I felt like this in 2016, and fell into a years-long depression. I knew it wasn't going to end well, and that people would die preventable deaths (I didn't know exactly how, but that's the thing about policies - they determine how we live, or don't). So, this election I feel much more prepared to fight the winnable fights, locally, to tend to my biological and emotional needs, and carry on, as freedom-seekers have for hundreds of years in America (on Indigenous land, I might add, not insignificantly).

Yes, flashbacks from my 14 yo self being sexually abused at my parents damn evangelical church. Our reaction is not about the system. Our reaction is that 1/2 the country showed how much they hate women and young girls. How is is OK to be a serial rapist. How it is OK the demean women. How we are less than human to them.

I disagree with the idea that we have always felt like it was a crisis when ‘our side’ didn’t win. We didn’t used to despair when the ‘other side’ won. We might not have been happy about it, but we didn’t feel like it was going to bring about the end of democracy. We didn’t feel like we were going to be taking giant strides backwards as a country. We didn’t feel like we were actually going to have hard won rights taken away. This has only been the case in the last three elections in which Trump was a candidate. Never before has a man of such openly low character been successful in attaining the presidency. Never before Trump has a man worked so cruelly to spread hate and lies to divide us. Never before has a President refused to participate in the peaceful transfer of power. Trump has done and said MANY MANY things that would have torpedoed the candidacy of any person who ran before him. This is not just political ‘business as usual’. Trump has run against three highly qualified, though imperfect candidates. He won twice. Each time when the candidate was a WOMAN. He showed us exactly who he was in 2016. He showed us exactly who he was in office. He showed us exactly who he was when he refused to participate in the peaceful transfer of power. He showed us who he was for the past few years, spreading MORE hate, MORE lies. His popularity has grown. Misogyny and Racism, the two prongs upholding Patriarchy, are the reason Trump won. I am 64 years old, I have voted in every election since I was 18. This election and its consequences going forward are unlike anything that has come before in the United States. The checks and balances are falling away. People feel like this is an existential crisis for our country because IT IS.

This. This comment needs to be pinned. We have literally installed a mobster who has packed the Supreme Court and bought and paid for judges. This criminal is NEVER going to jail for his crimes. Every crime he wants to commit is going to be deemed a "presidential act" and he is going to get away with it.

This is exactly what I have been thinking. Over 1/2 this country voted for this known sexual predator and racist. You said it so well. This election was not like the others. When Bush beat Gore, I was disappointed and worried for our environment but I believed our country would carry on. When Trump was elected the first time, I was confused but thought that the system would hold. Not now, Trump has shown us who he is. He is the destroyer.

You are absolutely correct, no election was this divisive among people, and let's not forget, this election is one of the elections with the least number of votes ever counted. And yet most of the central organs are completely taken over by republicans, all charges against him have already dropped, the billionairs who backed him up got a lot richer, and the country is the most devided we have ever seen. Both Khamala and Biden did their absolute best, however the democratic party failed them and all of us since Obama. I woud understand not voting for them, four years of the same stuff seems like shit, but maybe we more time Harris woud have been capable to get more shit done being already backed up by Biden. Trump is a complete wild card that we are all forced to see the chaos it leads to.

@@MagisterialVoyager Basically, when people suffer under a system that is unable to reform itself due to calcified structures of power (think european feudalism in the 18th century, Russia in the 1900s, Germany in the 1930s... or neoliberal capitalism today), it creates a "pressure cooker" situation in wich anger build and build without findind a constructive outlet. This situation often lead to an "explosion", a wave of reactionnary violence directed toward the stagnant system and its representatives, real or scapegoated. Think Civil War in the USA, the French and Russian Revolution, the rise of Facism in Italy and Germany, etc. Today, the western world is in the "pressure cooker stage" - people suffer but can't find an outlet in traditional neoliberal politics, thus the rise of the "far right" pretty much everywhere, because it is seen as providing an alternative to stagnation. The possible solution to this situation are a) massives and sweeping reforms or b) tabula rasa trough barbaric violence. And since it has always been easier (and more profitable) to drive people apart than to draw them together... you can guess how all os this is likely to end. It certainly doesn't help when greedy and narcissistic assholes seize on the occasion and fan the flame for personnal gain, as is often the case in such scenario.

@MagisterialVoyager Being from Germany, a lot of it looks like it started here in the 1920/30s: Book burnings, anti-LGBT policies, anti-socialist tendencies (anti public healthcare in case of the US, and also Trump saying he will go after his political enemies which also happened with Hit ler, since the first people interned in camps in Germany were actually people from the socialist and social democratic parties), anti-abortion and pro-natalism (in Na zi Germany there was a 'Mutterorden' as a sign of acknowledgement for women who had a certain amount of children, women were supposed to be in the domestic sphere only, and abortion was outlawed), blatant sexism and anti-foreigner policies (Trump announcing mass deportations of supposed 'non Americans' reminds me of the deportation of 'non German' jews in the 30/40s, DT also wants to build civilian detention camps along the southern border). In addition to these typical fascist elements, the US (as remnants of sla very) additionally has pervasive structural racism, white supremacy, and the downplaying of history and the mistreatment of black people, which is a factor of injustice which will create a lot of danger and harm for people of color (P2025 wants to get rid of anti discrimination laws in the workplace, so people could then legally not be hired by a racist employer just because they are black). I probably forgot some things that are similar, these are just the few off the top of my head... Edit: spelling and sentence structure for better understanding; correction about how DT has not yet built detention camps, but is planning to

But this election wasn't like others. We just elected someone who already tried to overthrow our government. Someone who said early on in his campaign that if he won, he'd make sure this was our last election. Someone who has openly admitted to admiring a serial killer. Someone who has talked about having his rivals unalived and has already recieved permission to do so. People are already dying and he's promised to make it worse. A lot of people are gonna have to reckon with how prevalent normalized abuse is in our culture. John Bradshaw was talking about this way back in the eighties. His program on "The Family" discusses how normalized abuse is and how normalized abuse is the main factor in folks that devolve towards genocide. Abuse is so normalized for some folks that they voted for an abuser without thinking twice about it.

I’m having about the same conclusion, but from a different perspective. I’m not from the US, I’m from somewhere much much worse - Russia. A lot of you out there are really nervous about what comes next, and I know how it feels, but think of it this way: not much really happened, you’ve lived through grim patriarchy your whole life. Sure, it’s a struggle, but you’ve managed. You don’t converted from rainbow and magic time into mordor time, you actually were already living though mordor that entire time, *and you managed* . I know it’s a very bleak perspective, but personally for me it gives power: to look back and understand that actually I’ve been through it, I came out alive. And as a person from a much darker (maybe less so now) mordor - believe me, life finds a way: we aren’t some husks of people without a moment of happiness, drained by metaphorical dementors; we still hang out with friends, we still listen to music, we still go to poetry evenings and have fun drunk quizzes in bars - life finds a way. Even when my town keeps getting bombed and drone-struck - life still finds a way. It’s a fight, often hopeless, but not lifeless.

This election highlights, a geopolitical divide and a spiritual divide in our country. That is a kin to self war levels. We may not have battlefields like we used to, but it is absolutely a battle for our individual freedoms and our community safety and this is not battle. Most people have had a fight daily and that is the wake up call. Those communities have been fighting daily instead of getting relief always see that our fight looks like it’s not worthwhile. Needing compassion for the amount of suffering that fellow citizens in America have had to endure daily from each other is already a burnout game. And what we’re being asked, is to hold each person accountable to their behavior, daily, then there needs to be consequences for those who wish us harm for existing. I did my best walking yesterday in my community, smiling, and the whispers and pointing at me, by men, were surprising as they were not there, so boldly, pre-election. At 46, I’m already wondering if my daily walks will end up being battle grounds so why step outside? These are all real concerns that are fundamentally being heightened every day due to how these political choices embolden citizens. What we feel like is a country that already had limited or no resources, shameful propaganda, and neglect for anyone who didn’t fit the potential regime. And you are correct it is our daily actions to keep moving forward however it is the realization that there feels like no way for us to be able to get free, just like any domestic violence Abuse victim feels at least for a chunk of time. The process of moving through grief, to empowerment, is how I have survived….and am grateful for those who have more strength, and more energy, to keep fighting for us.

Instead, I am slapped in the face with the reality that racism and sexism are still rampant, ignorance and bigotry has won, people have no empathy for people who are different from them, women are not seen as equals, people would rather have someone like trump than a woman president. And now my heart aches because of all the people who will die and be cruelly treated like animals, mass deportion and police immunity has always been a horrible tragedy filled with crimes against humanity throughout history, and all the women who will die just as they have since roe was overturned, now with more bans and surveillance, and the increase in homelessness due to a worsening economy, and everything in project 2025, and the education system butchering history by erasing things like slavery, raising another generation of ignorant people who will vote for the very people who stab them in the back... I can only hope with the fragments of my shattered hope that the things we fear to come were lies and fearmongering. To the people who think trump is going to fix everything: I hope you're right, I really do, I'd rather be wrong than suffer, but even if you are right, people will suffer, immigrants, poc, trans, women and girls... and my heart aches. I have seen this same dynamic play out on a microscale for many years and while it may seem as tho evil has prevailed in the moment, those tables ALWAYS turn in the direction of justice and truth. It will play out this way on a macro scale as well. Do not fret, change is coming. Just give it some time. 😉

The thing is….. millions of people don’t have time. Perhaps you haven’t felt any of the dire consequences of the previous Trump presidency. I myself was in many ways shielded from the worst of it. Clients and friends opened my eyes. I’ve learned the hard way that left-leaning white people can unintentionally hold back true progress in these times. Many times I thought to myself ‘well, it doesn’t seem THAT bad’. Have you read Project 2025? Conservatives control all the branches of government now - they can do whatever they want. And they want some pretty terrifying things.

Trump didn't win just because of bad people, but because Kamala lost, and that happens because Biden can't give the good days that you wait from him and Kamala still thinks bomb a civilians is normal. Because both Democrats and Republicans are paying by an elite to do what his elite think, it's better. That's why Biden does nothing about private equity or child label, one kid lost a hand, and the punishment for that is less than 2000 dollars. Not saying I prefer Trump, but he won trying to sell something "new" when the other side just said the same things, that's why the liar wins.

Of course we all know the system is part of the problem. But putting an unfair system in the hands of a corrupt, greedy, selfish, cruel, ignorant person is not going to help.
@Kitti-c9b
@Kitti-c9b Ай бұрын
He acknowledge that, to be fair. He said that ticking the box was important, and a lot of good and evil can come from that collective decision. The point he’s making is that the system was never going to change just because we voted. That most of the change was always going to result from actual effort on our part. Civil rights didn’t happen because of JFK, though he was part of it. It happened because of all the ordinary people out there doing the work every single day. A lot of people are already doing it, and their work continues- as it would have needed to continue even if Harris had won. But a lot of us are busy, and tired, and were maybe kind of hoping our work could be showing up on election day and ticking a box, then getting back to the grind of our lives. Now we know that isn’t enough, and it never was. Not everyone can dedicate their lives to justice, but all of us can do *something*, and if we want meaningful change we need to figure out what that something is and go do it. Another KZbinr put it beautifully - that worry is an emotion one feels when they are afraid of an outcome beyond their control. We start to take back some measure of control over the outcome when we get to work, and that can play a huge role in alleviating the anxiety of the current moment.

I’m starting to like this channel even more. People scapegoat “the system” for their problems. Lack of personal ownership and healthy self esteem. For most of the people having an emotional breakdown after election results, a week later in your life won’t look any different than a month earlier.

I like you but this is a bad message. Where is the call to collective action ? You "choose love and reject violence"? well violence is already there. Are you going to be a defenseless creature and not fight back ? We need to stop this "When they go low, we go high" nonsense

I perceived it more as in: 1. the work of changing the world to a better place rests on all of us, not just the person that leads us. 2. Just because your person wasn’t chosen, it doesn’t mean all is lost. 3. Be gentle to yourself now, but continue the work of changing the world regardless who is in power. Personally, I kinda went catatonic in 2016. It was too much for me, but now I am better prepared and I stand down. I won’t go high.

Why vote at all when both sides are guaranteed to continue the social, economic, educational, and just absolute decline of the country? It would've been better off if we all could've joined together no matter what gender, race, political leaning or whatever and finally tackle these issues in tis supposedly free society. It's all just oppression and fear here and I'm just so tired...

With respect, this election was very different from other elections in recent history, and people in marginalized groups are terrified for extremely logical, valid reasons. Half of our country voted for a grapist who opened literal concentration camps on our southern border, who tried to stage a coup, who has threatened to deport millions of people, and whose cohort is already targeting and scapegoating trans people. I could probably go on for hours about why this election is different from others. Half the country was either so mad about "the economy" they didn't give a sh*t about the hellscape their fellow Americans are facing, and/or they were so incensed about a woman of color taking power they voted for said grapist and traitor. That has been a stark, nasty reminder of this country's real values, at least for me.

I am not American, but to all the Americans reading this comment, I am sorry about what happened. I know it’s painful to have a clown become your leader, but stay strong, hold on to hope for 4 years. You can do it! Trump will not be able to run in 2028 anymore, and hopefully by that time, a better candidate will come for your country. I wish nothing but the best for the innocent people in America.

I usually like and agree with your videos, but this one missed the mark. It feels patronizing to be told such a flowery speech about how this happens every 4 years, better luck next time, like this was similar to any other election. It wasn't. So, yes, it's absolutely important that we support each other and care for each other going forward... and I'm not suggesting that we wallow in the grief more than we need to. But, respectfully - at least in my opinion - this speech was way too heavy on the creative writing/metaphors, and lacked real substance beyond "keep fighting the good fight." I don't usually feel that way from your content, so figured I would share my thoughts.
