@Agent Smith You might be too slow or not, but then it's just chance and outcomes are not predictable. Which is why operations are planned down minute details and timing. @savagebuck

@Matt Bonneville This is why Ni dominants would rather be COACHES than players. Because we really don't like putting ourselves in a situation we KNOW and UNDERSTAND would require fast and reflexive responses. And we like to have as much CONTROL as possible. BUT if we have no choice in the matter, it is not about PREVENTING a disaster from happening but more of PREPARING ourselves mentally and emotionally. Yes, a Ni dominant will prepare to be surprised and make room in our minds of that possiblity. We really don't like handing ourselves to chance if we can help it. If something bad is gonna happen, it will regardless. What an Ni dominant could do (even masterfully) is devise escape routes, backup and contingency plans. Our Se inferior bodies might be slow to react but our lightning speed minds have already 10 backup plans ready.

The perfect example of thinking something will be one way in theory, and being proven wrong in the physical world was when they fired some frozen foam insulation at a leading edge wing mock up of a space shuttle in the post Columbia investigation. I heard that a lot of engineers or observers didn’t think it would break the wing. They all were shocked in silence when it did. They had found the root cause of the disaster. They didn’t think it would break because insulation fell off the tank on every launch, but had never caused a problem before. I liked when you said Try it! Try it!

It's a strange experience being an ENFP around Blast-first INTJs and even ENTJs. Most chaotic people automatically fall into their "just some random idiot: disregard" category but they tend to let ENFPs into the "someone who actually kinda knows something: pay attention" VIP room. (I see a similar thing between ENTPs and INFJs.) That's very weird to the ENFP because we don't actually think we KNOW anything. We just make observations, compare/contrast them, and extrapolate conclusions.

As an Ni dom, I wouldn't even want to watch that guy's video--it is too preoccupied with details--I want to speculate on something with a little more scope to it--categorizing awareness is kind of fun, but not planning exits. Did they say that was the sign of an Ni dom--that they hate these kinds of videos 4:29? But the video was created by an unhealthy Ni dom? Was that their point? I couldn't quite tell... Maybe I just need more context. But I agree that I don't relate to this guy at all--and it is much easier for me to see him as an ISTP.

Ella Baker, I want to believe that they are correct with everything, but I can’t help but notice this too. I keep having trouble typing myself because they push this notion that if you think you’re an Ni dom, you have to be an ExxP. While I can see myself in an ExxP light, it still doesn’t explain me. Also, what’s up with planning? does every Ni have to be a 24/7 planner? I thought that Ni was also abstraction, categorization, connections, patterns....

@@dorrian6462 Hello, if you have trouble typing yourself I recommend you try C.S. Joseph videos and his type grid. His work is very good and has greatly helped me understand cognitive functions, how they work and how they interact with one another. To understand Ni better you can also take a look at LiJo's video about that or AsuraPsych. I'm an INTJ and I do like planning and control. I wouldn't say that I'm utterly obsessed with it but the lack of control or plan makes me quite anxious. I'm a big picture type of person, I hate details to the point that I always need to come out of my way and make extra efforts to actually pay attention to details, which can be draining if done too often. I do love new ideas and concepts but I'm approaching them in an organized manner. Ni is about connecting the dots, putting two and two together, finding patterns, ways to get you from point A to point B. It's almost like having a constant compass in your brain telling you where to go. Ni is also willpower, having the mental strength to pave your way towards your goal and get it. I don't know if my explanations are clear but it's more or less what Ni is about, if you want more details you can check out the channels I recommended you. Hope this helps.

These things could come in handy if you actually do have those things and/or you have some time, but it's a last ditch effort at that point. I'd prepare better by having a more traditional type of weapon or accept the situation and just use my fists. It's totally Ni here, coming up with solutions that are essentially impractical because they constantly fail to consider the situation or may totally overlook or disregard important information or the fundamentals of getting to the solution or developing their innovations. Plus, it's also just a show, which means there are variables at play like show's production or prop line to take up some time to get through the show with some shitty content.

That's what your looking everywhere when you go to a hotel and plan your escape. Ni would be like. There's a fire, then you would immediately know what to do without having to think about it. As Full Metal Jacket showed, and the end of this video confirmed, the target has to be held down. It's rumored that they don't leave much in the way of forensic evidence, because everything's going through multiple layers of fabric. Supposedly , the body doesn't develop welts or bruises, it just hurts like hell when there's any touch on a part of the body that's been hit. Isn't alternative to these scenarios to be unprepared? And statistics will be most likely in favor of using objects as weapons, in opposition to not. If you are in bad situation, you still probably lose a fight, but defending yourself with object decreases that probability. That is the whole reason, why we have weapons in the first place. And why term "improvised weapon" exists. And you cannot really choose, what things are at your disposal, if you suddenly find yourself in a fight.

@Tommy Hass The guy in the video talks about having to defend yourself as civilian/tourist, when bad situation suddenly occurs. Any kind of preparation is better than nothing, because at least you have some guidlines to calm you down and act. Otherwise you will just go into shock from all the chaos, freeze, and not respond at all. That is why military/policamen/firefighters over-train. There might be misunderstanding of what is being said though. For Se it is: you should make some weapons. Here are some examples. Something hard, heavy, with a reach (Ni). For Si: you should make exactly these kinds of weapons. If you don't have quarters and socks, you are screwed. Similar kind of misunderstanding is between Te and Ti. Te: we could do this. Ti: that is dumb, it doesn't make sense. Te: this is suggestion for discussion, not ultimate solution. Give your suggestio for solution. The funny thing for me watching this is I've seen that exact video they're making fun of, and while I was watching it on my own I was going, "Hmmm, yeah, I can see how that works. Who doesn't look at the exits for the buildings they go into? Stack some books to stop bullets... yeah, that's fine." All the while completely ignoring how fucking bonkers it all actually is. So fuck me right? XD
@_LazyTiger

@@JJReal-m7x Oh, I'm not saying he's completely wrong. Even re-watching the video again, I still agree with some of the things he says (The book thing is not so much, I'm not running to grab one if someone sticks a gun in my face). I just think it's bonkers because this is stuff that I do think about (looking at exits, imagining the worst case, thinking about improvised weapons), but I have none of the training this guys has. So my mind is saying, "Nah, you can do this." but the reality that I often ignore is like, "No, you fucking can't. You're not a Navy Seal." I still think about planning for the worst case. I just find it weird being aware of how my mind likes to make me think I have a chance at doing some of these things, while the reality of the situation is probably the complete opposite.

"It should work...." Yeah, I relate to that. I've learned, through much trial and error, that you have to test things out YOURSELF, and then plan a couple of backups, just in case (and YOU have to test those as well). I usually have to force myself to take the time and test something out.

This resonates with me. Usually anytime I’m in a new environment, walking to my car late at night by myself, or experiencing something potentially life threatening like a roller coaster or on a plane I think about my “survival strategies”. I often daydream about whether I would follow people towards the exit... probably not. The most extreme planning I’ve done... in a hurricane I’d hang on to the top of a palm tree 😆 doesn’t really make sense considering I’d probably drown first. In my head, my strategies could work. The fear is so looming that we believe heart and passion of surviving a thing can save us... we will WAIL on a person with a sock of quarters, if that’s all we have 😆 I’ve planned what I’d do with an active shooter. First I sit in the same place in every class as optimal to survival. If an active shooter comes in hopefully someone will get hit first around me... then I’d drop play dead next to the person and smear some of their blood on me so I appear already hit and dead. I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sounds legit.

I am by far no expert on mbti but I wonder if what you describe could be a sign of low ne. I have heard that ne-inferiors have the tendency to having to think about all the negative possibilities, everything that could go wrong (It's a pessimistic ne. Opposite to the optimistic ne of the ne-dominants). Maybe you have a tertiary ne who comes up with what could go wrong and then imagines far out ne-fueled solutions to it. But this is only my theory I could very well be wrong.
@grumpyschnauzer
@grumpyschnauzer 2 жыл бұрын
@@someonesomewhere6123 It’s my understanding that Ni-doms can also foresee potential outcomes and trajectories of negative outcomes. I’d think the difference is I (an Ni-dom) will come to the conclusion that this is bad because blank (I can foresee the obstacle or outcome and account for it). Ni is planning what to do or not to do (usually concise). I’m not fearful of the “one bad outcome” so much as I am accounting for it. Ne sees more than one possibility or outcomes to potentially “turn out bad” and is fearful of it (inferior)… not necessarily planning to account for it. I enjoy change but I don’t do well with options… that stifles me. Ne tertiary would not be planning but cowering in fear of ALL the potential bad things that could happen. But you are right, me being an Ni-dom, means I have Ne in 5th which is no better. I’d interpret that as when I open myself to ALL the possibilities it inhibits Ni from getting anything done or seeing a conclusion to a path moving forward. I get more done when activating Ni- albeit I can sometimes not be using Se very well which means I could sometimes be wrong.

That’s not Ni that’s just not thinking things through. I don’t even think an Ni user would have gone to the lengths to try any of those things. I’m also decently sure that Ni users rarely even think about the scenarios this guy was describing. As an INFJ I know I’m not bringing a hammer with me everywhere I go because I might need to break my hotel window to escape in case of a fire. I’m not really sure why anyone would think that’s a reasonable thing to do...

I think the guy they showed in the beginning was more of an ISTJ planner. Si doms are the most likely to become obsessed with a sense of security, and are most of the times pretty organized too. As an INFJ something definitely felt off about his description of Ni.

The following may be a random Ne-ish out of the blue question tied to a perhaps not very good comparison, but I'm going to ask it anyway, just because I'm curious. While watching Dave's reaction to this threat response video, one of my favorite scenes in the first Jason Bourne movie came to mind. It's the one where he and the German woman (whose name I forget), to whom he's paid several thousand Euros from the mystery safe deposit box to drive him out of Paris, are sitting across from one another at a table in a diner located at some exit off of the Euro-Bahn, or whatever superhighway it is they've been driving (northeast?) on to Germany during a snowstorm. Bourne still has amnesia at this point. And he starts freaking out a bit because, as he informs the woman, since the moment they entered the restaurant, he has been scanning every inch of the place, along with each of the individuals inside and their movements, to engage in a constant threat assessment and development of contingent response plans. And he doesn't know why he's doing this or how he knows to do this. He does, however, by this point already know that he is capable, with just his hands and feet, and a disposable pen, of fending off a highly trained martial arts would-be assassin. So, my question is, which of Bourne's cognitive functions are most engaged at this point in the restaurant? Which ones is he actively using, and which ones might be causing him distress due to the gulf that exists between his apparent abilities and his lack of understanding of why he has them in the first place?

I don't know if this has been mentioned by someone else, but... A sap is a blitz/ambush weapon, i.e. first-strike surprise offense, not a defense tool. As your video clips showed -- if you can see it coming you can duck or dodge pretty easily. Most martial arts styles break when put into real combat, especially against another style. This has been proven well by Mix-Martial-Arts matches. Someone who does not know that the attacker is supposed to move a certain way for the technique will do something else and it will fail.
