@@ZZ-uo7ht Hey there! look at different schools that have a social work program, some even have specific classes to become a school social worker certificate where you take a couple education classes as well. Normally in undergrad, you take 2 years of classes and some social work classes as well then as a junior, you apply to the program and take most social work classes for junior and senior year. Senior year you will have a year-long internship in the population you want, in your case school social work. Good for you. Social work has many aspects. If you are doing what you are trained to do wonderful. However in some states people rename therapy as "Coaching" and do immense damage. My experience with government Social Workers was good. The one really bad one was working for a private place. I have to add that Social workers have a lot of power. Immunity makes it unchecked, Power must never go without responsibility.

This is really great to see and hear. I have been a Social Worker for 21 years. In different guises ie front line working to Senior Management. I can safely say that I love my job. No one day is ever the same. When I became a Social Worker in The UK all those years ago, not many people were interested in doing it as a course. Roll forward 21 years and it is pretty much an oversubscribed course. Social Work challenges the way you think as you work with with individuals, whereby one glove does not fit all. Interventions with clients will always be unique and only applicable to that person, which is the beauty of the job. Enabling and supporting people which benefits them. I am proud to be a Social Worker.

I really enjoyed this. So many people automatically think child protective services. But that is not the only job social workers can do. I don't agree with some of the shady practices that can be found in some aspects of social work but their is bad in ALL fields. Their is really something special about a person who can juggle her personal problems along with other people's personal problems. Most social workers are just trying to do the best they can. People should be thankful because it's not like anybody else really cares about them or their issues like most social workers do or they would not need a social worker in the first place.

I am a student social worker and I agree social workers do a lot to help people in difficult circumstances. Social work in general has been given a stereotype that all we do is take children away from family's this is so far from the truth. The definition of social work is work carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those people in a community suffering from social deprivation. There are so many departments in Social work and in each one they make there own change.

I love being a social worker. I completed my studies in 2013; I was 42, married, had two children under 10, worked full-time in a hospital as an alcoholism counselor, and went to school full-time at night. And, yes, plus my 14-hour field placement. Anyway, for the last nine years, I have done a few different things in crim-justice/crim-legal fields: program evaluation and quality assurance for a reentry program, victimology research, prison reform at a non-profit, and the diversion program for young adults. Now, I run my own advocacy and counseling agency-the thing about working for yourself is that it's risky and rewarding, too.

Becoming a social worker was the worst decision of my life. It is definitely not for everyone. And many social workers go into the field because they are codependent... thinking their self worth and identity are about helping others. But if others decide that they don't need your help.... (working with mandated clients like mine) your identity gets free to realize that your self worth is not defined by your ability to help others or in others needing you. And you become sort of this free agent. Anyway I am leaving the field of social work as soon as I can after making this realization after 8 years in the field.

Thanks for your honesty! I agree with you to a certain extent. Yes, when it comes to self identity, it is IS NOT Defined by helping people, BUT KNOWING your self identity and self worth is what makes you a HERO Social Worker. Knowing and thinking are two different things. Some who have visited the field of social work prematurely have had to revisit at a later time & some simply come to the knowledge that it is just not for them. Everyone has a “task”, “purpose “ and sometimes it takes a while to figure out what that is like the situation you faced and realizing social work was not where your heart and destiny lie but we figure it out! I knew but didn’t know that this is my destined field and am so thankful I am on that path now to social work and advocacy! Blessings to you and your destiny. 😊

Really, I suppose you see "serving" needy people means that you leave a trail of emotional destruction behind you. I guess tearing apart lives must have some entertainment value? Can't see what it could be, but maybe, like those who managed to drive a young mother to her death, (Hayley Gascgoine), through the amount of distress and abuse that people like you, (social workers) heaped on her, the more emotional destruction you can inflict the happier you are.

Sliepnir2006 Removing children from dangerous situations is not tearing art lives. If it is a small issue social workers will bring in the parent and help the kids fix it, or if the guardians have toxic actions they'll try to fix it before removing the child. if you think the child needs to stay with abusive parents to avoid the PARENTS getting hurt then you need to fix your priorities
@EnergeticAura
@EnergeticAura 7 жыл бұрын
In the UK children and babies are being removed at an alarming rate for "Risk of future emotional harm" the police and social services are causing actual emotional harm to all parties involved at the point of removal. These children are then being adopted without parental consent through reports, which parents are not entitled to bring real evidence to prove otherwise.They are offered solicitors who work for the local authorities and to win a case would lose then lucrative work. Even in cases where the wrongful removal can be proved, it is rarely produced bu legal representatives. All go along with social worker reports, made on silent videos after contact, where anything can be assumed. even specialist reports are largely based on what goes in social worker reports. In reports to the court hours of positive contact is ignored for one or two moments of negativity.

@@rorycalhoun6712 what is your obsession with bashing social workers? are you capable of understanding the level of dedication it takes to pursue this field? do you understand the broad spectrum of field placements social workers are a part of? do you have any idea how much you personally have benefitted from the work of social workers without even realizing it? since you've been bashing social workers on this same video for over 4 years seems like you have some personal demons to work out. maybe contact a social worker? oh wait

+CESSqc I think it's about balance. I agree that social workers (to some extent) lean so much to one socio/political/economic end that is counter to capitalism. I think reading Ayn Rand would be helpful in our curriculums to show the ills of the extremes of socialism. I also see the ills of 10% owning 90% and watching very basic needs not met, which then adversely impacts our capitalistic system. Yes, there are ills on both sides and it is way to easy to render an obtuse statement simplifying the issues.

+CESSqc I failed to answer your question. I offer that life brings different challenges to people along their stages of life. For example, troubles with child development, to how to help elders during their final years. Advocating for one who can't, to advocating macro policies. helping individuals navigate systems to helping communities to develop norms that encompass both empathy, responsibility, and accountability. Doing the "little helper things" that most are unwilling to do but that do serve a purpose... if not at least allow other the time to exercise the freedoms to make more money, spend time with family, or achieve their desires within their means.

Oh no thank you, in fact after what I have witnessed, if any social worker were to come near me, when I am older, the first will wish they were dead, the second will end up wanting to take up their own lives, the third will take their life. After what I have been witness to, I do not want these horrible people anywhere near me. One would be safer in a den of rattlesnakes and it would be more preferable. Yuch. -

In my opinion I think that people who work as social workers have a more difficult job since people think that it is not very difficult to work the way they work when it is the opposite since they have to take care of things more technical and much more complicated

I think what he’s trying to say is that due to the stigma that people who are poor suffer feel they don’t have opportunities. So the only person who can help it to the end is a social worker. A social worker can’t change a person but can leave a thought in your mind about what your potential would be and thus open your mind to new possibilities.

When I worked as a social worker, a client's family member once came up to me, and asked me a really important question. She asked me, so who looks after the caretaker? The answer is whatever helping professional role you have chosen to be, ultimately the fact is, you need to look after yourself. If you follow that advise, you will more likely stay sane, and productive, while helping those who need your assistance.

It suits each and every 'social services crimes researcher' just fine, to report and to continue to publish reporting the 'unprecedented' number and type of crime, corruption and abusive practices the social workers industry perpetually practices against individuals and the family unit. Social worker policy and theory of practices are all based on an ideology of eugenics, this is a destructive ideology which a majority of SW's throughout North America are not even aware they are subjected to follow.
