Lyrics:
Oh, when I was young
I was so full of fear
I hid behind anger, held back the tears
It was me against the world
I was sure that I'd win
But the world fought back, punished me for my sins
I felt so alone
So insecure
I blamed you instead, made sure I was heard
And they tried to warn me
Of my evil ways
But I wouldn't hear what they had to say
I was wrong
Self destruction's got me again
I was wrong
I realize now that I was wrong

Sound in theory but in practicality, not so much. One must do for themselves before they can do for others is far more accurate. Thing is, the heart wants what the heart wants but it is usually our minds that tell our hearts to fuck off. The mind can be swayed, the heart is much more difficult. For those who don't understand what I am saying... You can love others without loving yourself; the bullshit people say that defies this core logic is the nature of humans dominating other humans. Yeah, let's just not go there, because I'm providing you all the view of humanity from the eyes of a deity now.

This song legitimately changed my life. Headed down a stupid, self-centered and self-destructive path until I realized that (to be cliche), I was wrong. Never looked back except to say I was sorry and always crank this to the max whenever it comes on.

Hearing this song is such a breath of fresh air. Way too many songs out there where the protagonist is the victim, which isn't inherently bad but we need more lyrics about owning one's mistakes! This band has earned itself a new fan.

That drummer (Chuck Biscuit) is old skool LA punk rock just like Social D was. I was there for most of it, and we are all old now so that is part of it. and maybe he is stoned but I remember him doing that back in the early 80's. and I think the thing at :059 is supposed to be a vein scarred from slamming dope. Just a guess of course. And SD does not have to prove they are hard core for middle school kids (as someone commented). they proved it back when I was in middle school. way before personal computers, the internet or DVDs, and a few years before MTV. What a great time we had back then! You could see a handful of great bands back then - on 2 foot high riser (no stage) in a dive bar in Hollywood, or in a garage in the valley for free or for $5 bucks tops. Now you have to wait on lines and shell out some cash to see these bands, but I am glad they made it and are making money. It was fun to be a punk back those days but it was not a picnic. No one liked punks and there was a lot of violence back then. And I am a female. But I wouldn't have missed it for anything. See the "another state of mind" tour of SD and Youth Brigade and you will see some of what Mike is saying he was wrong for. and yes, good on him he's sober now (we all are sober or dead at this point). He connected with so many people by writing about how he really felt and his program, process etc... and since I saw him at his worse, I know he knows what he's talking about and I respect these songs. Oh and my teenage self was so in love with Dennis (all of us girls were). RIP Dennis he really was the most mellow and least screwed up one in the band imho.

Social Distortion's music is very relatable. They don't sugarcoat it. It's straight, blunt, truthful, and to the point, and I have a lot of respect for that. I Was Wrong is a great song that sounds amazing, and it's one of several Social Distortion songs that I love and can relate to. My friend got me into SD a little while ago. They’re not what I typically listen to, but what I really appreciate about them is how honest and stripped down their lyrics are. I’ve heard many songs about hardships and feeling like you just wanna give up, and with SD, this is coming from a guy who knows just what it’s like to struggle. It’s no secret that Ness had a heroin addiction that almost derailed his life in the 80s. In fact, it’s one of the first things I learned about him. And I’ve had my share of hardships being a high schooler during Covid, which obliterated my social life. I’m telling you, he has a powerful voice

When I was a teenager my grades sucked. I didn’t have any communication or relationship with my dad and my mom was in and out of rehab. School failed me and I didn’t understand the point at all. I enjoyed testing authority and got arrested a few times with no respect for rules as long as I wasn’t hurting anybody. But I had a punk rock band. I felt like this song really got me at that time. Thank God I had my band and music to get me through it.

Today I got the title tattooed, as my reminder to be a better man. I grew up pissed off at the world, and anyone who I cared for would end up getting hurt by me in some way. It's cost me friendships, my engagement, and now I'm left back starting over again. It's my reminder to admit when I'm wrong, stop being so angry, don't be hurtful, but heal. It took many years coming, and I'll get shit for it, but it's my most meaningful in my 40+ I've got now.
