I'm trans and when I first came out people were very hateful and I had to prostitute because my job fired me for being trans and I was mocked in job interviews. I remember one hotel I was working from I saw a young girl with a pimp and kept an eye out and was able to join her for a cigarette when her pimp wasn't around. She said she was 14 and was convinced her pimp loved her, the guy was almost 30 and had other girls he was working at other hotels. I told her programs will help you out of this life, they're run by religious people so they won't help a trans person like me but you don't have to live this life. I can hide you and get you help. You know what she said to me? She said she'd run away from a foster home where she was being molested and didn't want to go back into the system. Me and my siblings were lucky enough to be adopted as babies. But this young girl had only known abuse her whole life and so being pimped out at 14yrs old seemed like love and freedom to her. She didn't accept my offer for help. And I respected her right to choose her destiny and not go back into the system that had abused her..but this story still haunts me

@@annikarasmussen6616 your story makes me so angry for you! I have such a hard time understanding how anyone can judge anybody for being who they are, the hate I see when people come out (or that people have to "come out" at all) infuriates me. And then when children are so unloved and mistreated that they feel they're safer in these situations than in a program that's supposed to protect them- it's just so sad, because it isn't supposed to be this way. We're supposed to take care of each other and love each other.

Your heart is so beautiful, to still feel haunted all this time later by that young lady and the interaction you had with her. Best wishes to you on your path to healing.🌷🌹

@@lisarodriguez6966 I left sex work in 2018. My life was really starting to come together but then the pandemic hit. But I start classes next week to earn an entry level I.T. certification. Hopefully they go well. At this point I can't forgive Christians for their abuse of trans people or excluding us from charities they run to help people out of prostitution. You know I had a cousin raise $60k to go live in Cambodia for 2yrs to fight sex trafficking there but never put an ounce of effort into helping me out of sex work. I really loathe religious bigotry. Ironically I mentor a 10yr old trans girl and she goes to a church that accepts her and she really loves herself some Jesus. Maybe she is the future we were fighting for where people could get along. I'm skeptical, but she's still young and optimistic that love can win ❤️

She looks hard in the thumbnail, but once she starts talking, she’s all heart…one of the most passionate and sincere people you could ever meet. It’s often the same way with the meanest dudes. That tough exterior is there to protect something. A lot of the real ice cold people seem easygoing and agreeable, because they don’t really have their own feelings, just impulses and instincts. She’s not made for out there, like the woman she was talking to said. Not cause she doesn’t have heart, cause she’s a real one in street terms. This is not no green, unseasoned turnout. She has been tested. You can tell she does well out there, and when you’re where you have been somebody in a walk of life, it’s hard to leave, even if it’s not where you want to be. That happened to me. I left home due to SA, and neglect and poverty, at 14. I was scary a h, but I ran into people who pushed me and one woman who taught me, and got really good at the same hustle as her. You get desensitized…it becomes an ordinary day. When I got pregnant, I swore I would never go back. I had seen women’s kids taken away, seen two women killed, and experienced a lot of trauma and violence. I squared up, went to Job Corps, got my GED, had 2 babies, gone to college, then married an abusive square dude who disabled me by giving me skull fractures, TMJ, nerve damage, and ultimately 7 ruptured discs, sciatica, etc. He told me I was useless good and good for nothing, and made it true. I tried working with my degree and didn’t succeed in pain and being controlled every minute, exhausted and traumatized. After I heard that enough, I was scared to try. I just wanted to forget I ever tried and failed, and disappear untraceable. So I went back to where I had succeeded, because I’d been taken before and I wanted to win this time. All I won was a rap sheet, a new addiction, and a whole lot of $ I can’t get back! I did gain some material things but without an abuser holding me back, I could’ve got them all kinds of ways without all the damage to my life. I hope she will take the risk and try something new. She’s a VERY strong woman and if she can make it on these streets without becoming addicted, she can do anything. That’s a feat of armor! Wear that street armor to school or the workplace…it’s like being the Baddest girl in school. It’s a cakewalk compared to a day in the life. You got this, Arielle! 💎

No one in America is failed like America's foster children. Every time the kid reacts normally to abnormal circumstances they are pathologized by doctors and social workers and told they have all sorts of disorders. Hundreds or even thousands of pages in their files create a convenient pipeline to prison or having their own children taken away by foster care. It's sick what happens to these kids. She's adorable. But there is so much pain there, she turned her focus outward, she didn't really want to touch the third rail. You can't get that raw if you are about to go right back out and walk the streets. 😭

I am so impressed with you, Arielle! To be so humble and honest, yet so full of conviction? I could stand to take a year’s worth of diplomacy lessons from lil’ sis, and I’d pay for them, too. 😮. If she keeps telling the RIGHT people (like Mark) her dreams, and what she has to bring to the table, like she just did, she’s gonna make an opportunity for herself. Arielle, if you hear “no, thank you,” a thousand times, say, “Thanks for hearing what I got to say,” and ask someone else. If someone doesn’t work with you, I bet they’ll point you in the right direction. Not everyone sincerely cares about others like you do, and knows how to convey that to others. Personally, my desire to help is strong but your networking skills are better than mine. I have Autism and I stay in my head a lot. I use too many words & people think I’m intellectually arrogant, when I’m actually trying to show my heart through my mind. I don’t know how to communicate emotional feeling to others. You are like E.T., in a good way. Your heart just lights up when you feel strongly, and you can’t not see it. 🫀❤️‍🔥. I’m not trying to be funny…that’s still my favorite movie. Not only do you speak expressively, but with strength and conviction. I used to be in the life, too. You are one who really gets what “game for life” means. Not just staying in the game, but taking what you learned about human beings, business, etc. and applying it…truly, anywhere you want to go. I used to think I had to stay down for my crown or go back for another round, to win at the game, but there’s too much that’s not under your control. If you don’t have a man who’s down for you, too, cash out that wisdom on the game of life. (School, career moves, your own investments…). I’d place my bets on you! Much love 💗.

Mark, first of all, watching this, I feel horrible knowing that this art, YOUR art - something so beautiful and genuine… that KZbin won’t monetize this. Your channel is the most important one on this platform, in my opinion. You really did more than bite the bullet to get these stories out there and for people to speak their truth and that right there proves one thousand times over WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO. you really care about getting these stories out there to show the truth. You care about that over money, and that should tell everyone everything they need to know. I hate that KZbin has done this. I hope there is some way something can change. And Arielle; I just want you to know you are worthy. You are so valuable. Your feelings are valid. You are worth so much more. I want you to know you’re beautiful. Your spirit is so strong. And most importantly, you did not deserve what happened to you in foster care. You were failed by a system meant to protect you. You don’t need a pimp to protect you. You are strong enough to stand up and change your life and be your own savior. You’re the one who picks your tired body up off the floor each day and night. You’re the one who pulls through every hard situation you’ve ever been through. You’re the one who wipes your face when it’s drenched in tears. You’re the one who has fought to survive every single thing that has tried to bury you. YOU DID THAT. I hope you read this or any one of these comments and I hope you know we are speaking the truth. ❤️ Sending love and light to all of you- and especially you Arielle and Mark.

Whoa this interview GOT ME! I've watched so many of these, but Ariel seriously struck a chord with me. She seems SO close to making a change, but I could hear in her voice that she doesn't think it's possible yet. I just pray that she keeps on thinking about it, keeps mulling it over, keeps checking in with her book and with Mark, and hopefully soon she'll be ready to go. Change is definitely hard, and when you've only known pain that's your "comfort zone," which is hard for others to understand. But if she can make that choice, and start down that path, I believe she could become an advocate and a counselor for girls who want to get out of "the life." I will be praying for her and sending her strength! You've got this, Ariel! 🥰

Arielle, your interview is one of my favorites (if not my favorite) so far. I see a fighting spirit in you, and I see resilience, and I don't know if it's because you're so close in age to me (I just turned 31!), or if I've been in a place (and am still in an ever-evolving place) of discovering my relationship with my own body, my sexuality, my desires, etc. in the context of being a "temple of the Holy Spirit" as well, but your words about "my body is a temple" are one of the key teachings from the Holy Spirit that have anchored and grounded me in my journey of loving my body as Jesus and the Father and the Holy Spirit love my body, and that statement just hits very close to home for me overall. I also love the fact that you're drawn to documenting people's stories and film-making and helping rescue others from life on the streets--I mean, you just have this fire and beauty and grace in you, and I low-key would just love to talk with you and be your friend, and talk about all things writing and creativity and celebrating our realities as temples of the Holy Spirit, and beautiful, beloved children of God, if you're ever down for that or just need a girlfriend to have a heart-to-heart with. :) You seem really cool and an awesome person to be friends with. :) I have never been a sex worker, and I've never had sex for money, so I don't pretend to know your day to day experience, or the hurt, heartache, and terror (and good times!) that can come out of "the life," as you say--but, as a woman and child of God I can empathize with so many of the emotions you're experiencing, as I too have gone through the lived machinations of low self-esteem resulting from having sex out of its proper spiritual context, including in a romantic relationship, and in looking for love in all of the wrong places. I'm sure it's not going to be a surprise to you, but the love you're looking for is ultimately found in Jesus Christ, Who I promise--I *promise*--will give you the love you so deeply crave. St. Augustine said it best: "Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O God." He's one of my favorite holy figures, and those words have always resonated very strongly with me. :) God bless you, friend! I have a feeling this is the start of a new, beautiful beginning for you, if only you have the courage to walk into it.

For all I can say is good luck to them

@@dennisbonner1970 that’s oversimplifying the issues at best. If it were really that easy for this young lady and people like her to just pick themselves up and dust themselves off we wouldn’t have the problems with substance abuse, overdose, homelessness, child trafficking, etc. that we do in this country. Many of them didn’t stand a chance. Born into extreme poverty, in and out of the foster care system, addicted to drugs by the time they were young teenagers. People need resources to drag themselves out of these situations. Most of all people need a some compassion and a little bit of empathy, Not to be kicked when they are already down.

With abortion bans across the country, foster care is about to be industrialized along with the misery and broken people it creates.

I really hope that there is a positive update. You can tell that something scared her (the shooting) and is making her rethink where shes at right now. This is the perfect time for her to get help and get out.
