I really appreciate it when someone repairs something by using their ingenuity like this gentleman. Sometimes we simply have other more important priorities (like feeding the family, paying the rent etc etc) to have to dish out hundreds of dollars to fix the car. A mechanic that understands this and helps by doing a repair like this is truly a gift.

It's worth a try. I was quoted $650 to replace a leaking condenser.

So you can just use regular soldering that you use when soldering copper pipes?

Nice video!! I'm about to tackle mine too!! It's leaking at the bottom bracket area (where the coil bolts to the front frame!! One day it just quit wrkg!) Checked refrig & not a drop!!! Be careful leak testing with ?air!?!?! Suppose to use nitrogen,carbon dioxide, or helium?! I do hvac for a living..... pressurizing with air & oil in the system can be explosive/dangerous! I'm gonna try the flux & solder too! Hope this gets it.... it's starting to get hot outside!!!!!! Lol ikr!!!

Based off the flux container you can go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a kit it has the same blue tank a torch tip cheap flux and cheap solder all-in-one is the exact same solder that you would use to solder copper pipe

Is it ok if I submerge the condenser in the water at the same time I pressurise air to track where the leakage is? Any body knows pls share. 🙋♂️
@GrimRepair Жыл бұрын
Yes. Make sure it's pressurized before you submerge it, you don't want water inside it.

Can you use JB weld with this?
@kostap2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Since they have the high heat steel JB Weld for radiators. I was told that works because radiators have coolant (liquid) but condenser is Freon (gas) which might not make the proper seal for a pressurized system. Although in my head I don’t see the difference with a liquid or gas system since they’re both pressurized. I’m going to try to solder it if I can find the hole. If not I’m going to use JB Weld in the vicinity of the leak since it’s not as an exact science as soldering is. Wish me luck!!!

I used JB weld before on a rig & it fixed the problem.

@crpth13 жыл бұрын
Caulk or silicone is a big definitive NO! Only serve to make a huge mess if and when a proper repair must take place. On the other hand, two parts epoxy sealers. Like JB weld and equivalents can be quite useful. If the repair area is properly cleaned and the application done correctly! Notice that if it goes wrong it's a pain to remove, clean and fix properly. So it's worth do it correctly the first time. ;-)
