I wish I found this before the hours of attempts with the linear sketch pattern, geometry pattern, repeating face pattern… You have no idea how happy we were to come across this video. Saving school projects one video at a time.

one of those tools that are amazing when you need it! glad I found this video

I have been searching for a video on how to make a honeycomb pattern, and all the other available videos are using really complicated and evidently pointless steps, this was really useful man, thank you!

I spent about 2 hours fussing with a hexagon offset linear pattern mess. Glad I found this video so I didn't have to waste even more time.

Great video. Just wondering if you could do an extrude instead of a cut?
@goengineer
@goengineer Ай бұрын
You would need to create the feature first for an extrusion and use "Selected features" instead of "Create seed cut". Otherwise, yes, a fill pattern works for both cuts and extrudes.

can you convert a fill pattern to a sketch? or merge/combine 2 base flanges together in a single flange?
@goengineer
@goengineer Жыл бұрын
Once the Fill pattern is created you could convert the edges into another sketch, not sure if the results would be worth the effort. As far merging 2 flanges together the generic answer is yes you can do that. However there maybe specific geometric conditions that do not lend them selves to being combined. Touch base with your VAR's support team and they can give you a more specific answer.

can you flex on a surface? not just a cylinder?, liek for example a "dish" shape?

Two years ago I changed a design to avoid this polygon grill, lol. Thanks, excellent tutorial.

do you know if there is any way to only add the honeycomb mesh to a part of an object? IE a box with a solid edge
@goengineer
@goengineer 4 жыл бұрын
The fill pattern dialog allows you to select a face you want to add the pattern to. This is the first selection at the top of the dialog. The boundary is created by the edges of the face that is selected. The pattern should only be added to the face selected in the dialog.

This is really great and it's ALMOST exactly what I need. In my case, I'm looking to fill with something that's a bit more of a complex pattern than a polygon. My seed fill pattern is actually based on a hexagon, and my pattern does 'tile' a surface, i.e., it will fill it without gaps. So... does the Fill command allow you to input something more complicated than the primitive geometries (circle, square, polygon...) that your video showed us are the standard menu options? That is, can you somehow select an option that allows you to specify a pattern - that's perhaps saved as a separate file or sketch or block - that the Fill feature will use to fill a surface?
@goengineer

The fill command will pattern any 2D closed geometry. you cannot reference external files with the fill pattern tool itself, though the initial seed geometry may have external references. Though you could bring in a block then explode the block and use that sketch to fill the pattern The number of patterns available is limited at the moment but more options may be available in the future.

What kind of madman works with inches in such a precise software. Not even serious US tech companies use the imperial system lol
