Haha I can so relate to you concerning the early bed time in the woods at this time of the year . But last time I went , I manage to sleep from 7 to 7 , with only one pee during the night . Winter nights are quite silent , unlike the rest of the year where you hear animals or insects making a ruckus around the campsite. I guess you where going to a familiar spot to travel at night . You decided to go after work probably . I never go for a hike at night but I think it must have a feel of its own. I might try it this year to gain some time outdoor , as the days are very short . Do you think you should have bring a warmer sleeping bag ? You had some good isolation underneath your sleeping bag. Did you have enough snow for your sled finally on you way out? You are right, very quiet nights in the winter! I have been to this area several times so I had a place in mind before I set out from the car. I only worry about lots of snowfall making the return journey very difficult but got lucky this time. I did have enough snow to drag my sled out. I brought one of my warmer bags but I was still a bit cold but not too bad. I am waiting for some very cold weather to test my newest sleeping bag, please stay tuned! Thanks very much, Sylvain!

you have a sled and a bunch of junk why wouldnt you just bring a tent....

I did have a tent but the nice flat spot had a rocky bottom so I wouldn't have been able to get my stakes in to secure it. Tarps are a good option in those circumstances.
