The game is really fun, it's a big improvement over Shattered Crystal. The instant spawn thing though pissed me off sometimes, the game could've used some more difficulty (maybe add in a Hard mode for the next Sonic Boom game), it definitely could've been longer, had a more interesting story, more replay value, more stages and bosses. I personally would like to see another 3D Sonic game on the 3ds and this time have it be a full 3D Sonic game like the Adventure games. Other than that, hopefully Fire and Ice sells well, it's a good game and Sanzaru Games did a good job.

mechashadow I have played it too. I think this game is good but there are some stages that I don't want to ever replay. Tropical Coast Act 3 was the most frustrating stage.

I'm glad that this game turned out to be a lot better than we first thought, but the only thing that worries me is that it might not sell very well due to it being VERY plain and having the Sonic Boom name on the cover. But regardless, it's good to see that this game and Paper Mario: Color Splash were received MUCH better than when they were first revealed to the public. :)

Baby steps? I don't mean to be negative, but it's been... *ten years* since Sonic 06. It has been 6 years since Sonic 4 Ep1. It has been 2 years since Rise of Lyric. I'm sure you've heard this before but as much as I can appreciate Sega for trying to do absolutely everything possible with Sonic, much to it's lack of success - it really wouldn't hurt if Sega had something by Sonic that works _consistently_. Be it a 2D game that runs on the classic model/engine that's universally acclaimed, or a 3D gameplay that proved to be successful. It just seems that Sonic is trapped in an infancy of taking baby steps to taking off running and then it's back to baby steps. It started out as a legacy of greatness to a legacy of mediocrity, and for it's own sake, I hope Sega can make Sonic great again and keep him that way.

LostChildOfTime Nah I agree. Sonic needs to pull a Mario/ Megaman and find Quality Assurance and Consistency in his future games. They had something with Unleashed (Day), Colors and Generations (Modern) but staggered with Lost World and absolutely tanked with Boom (despite being a spin-off) You don't need to re-invent the wheel or introduce a new game mechanic EVERY OTHER game. Just make sure the level design, plot and general presentation is solid and Sega can stick with the Boost Formula for another 7 plus games with the occasional spin-off once in awhile.

Well, from what I can see, there are some ice blocks that can make you run into spikes and stuff. Sure, there are infinite lives, but it can be annoying, so they probably added the icons to indicate which you have to melt.

I'm glad to see that Sega's finally getting their acts together & is going on the right path by actually delivering what fans want. Just goes to show that it doesn't hurt for a company/developer to listen to feedbacks from fans & consumers & actually try to fix em, something that Nintendo barely does with the games they put out nowadays...Granted, we did get a stellar Kirby game not too long ago, aka Planet Robobot & we're getting Breath of the Wild, a Zelda game in which Aonuma vowed to fixed all the negative feedbacks that Skyward Sword received, thank God, but then again Aonuma seems to be the only person at Nintendo that actually pays attention to what the fans want & HAL Laboratory, while they're aware of what the fans want to see in Kirby games, aren't really that part of Nintendo aside from being a second party company for them.

Ok, so after the dust has settled with Boom and time has passed since this game’s release I realize that there is a glaring problem with the direction that the Boom games have if they ever continue, and Fire and Ice proves this. And that problem is the fact that these games by Zanzaru play it waay too safe. Think about it. The Boom sub-series was conceived by Big Red Button as a new direction for Sonic, in the form of a exploration, collectathon, combat oriented Jack and Daxter clone. Wether or not you think that was a good direction is up for debate if you want, but regardless of the quality of Ryse of Lyric, they still had a direction to go with. Had the game been successful we most likely would’ve had more Boom console games in this style. This was what the Boom series was selling itself as and it was what most of it’s diehard supporters were defending when it was announced. “It’s a spinofff! A new experience for Sonic! Don’t Judge!!”. Shattered Crystal on the other hand was simply meant to be a handheld game so it makes sense that it played it safe as the it was just making way for the bigger seller which was the console version. I had no problem with it playing more like a traditional 2D Sonic game with speed at the forefront. But when ROL failed and Big Red Button quit making Sonic games for good, this sub-series that was striving to take Sonic in a direction is left, well, directionless. Now Zanzaru is in an awkward position to presumably make more Boom games inspired by the TV show universe. But alas, they have no direction. Fire and Ice surprisingly played it safe again adding nothing new other than a Fire and Ice gimmick that is really a glorified P-switch mechanic. Mighty Switch Force even tackles this gimmick better. So now future Boom games have no direction to go, simply making mediocre games that don’t really justify Boom’s existence as a brand. Remember, Boom wanted to be new and different for Sonic, to venture in unknown territory. It’s the whole point of it being a spin-off. But if they’re going to continue games that play it safe and are just run of the mill 2D sonic games, then what’s the point? What does Boom have to offer that Modern Sonic can’t do? They could’ve literally swapped the designs of the Boom character with the modern counterparts here and wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Boom’s main gimmick, it’s reason to even exist died a long time ago. They only thing keeping this alternate universe and these new designs relevant is the TV show. But there’s literally no reason for Boom games to even be made anymore. They do absolutely nothing to move Boom forward for what it stood for.

I liked the concept for the character but making him the final boss was so stupid. We spend all this time making and upgrading this character that we got attached to (or at least that was the intention), only to be instantly booted out of using him out of nowhere and forced to use a character we have almost no knowledge of how to use (Sonic). If that wasn't enough, he gets all the super overpowered abilities that you need passwords to unlock! It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if you fought him when he had the abilities that you programmed him with, but NOPE. I get it's supposed to be sad that we're killing someone we were supposed to be attached to and be all like "Oh no, what a twist!" but it was so poorly executed.

It's cool that PK is here. It's also nice to know that Sonic Boom Fire and Ice is getting more positive reception and that they aren't giving up on it. Although I wish the improvement was far greater than what we got I'm still happy with the game and respect for not giving up on Sonic Boom.

Both this game and Shattered Crystal really bother me, not because of the games themselves (I haven't played either nor do I want to) but because of the developer, Sanzaru. I'm a pretty huge Sly Cooper fan, it's one of my favorite franchises ever, Sly 2 is in my top 3 games, I bought a PS2 to get Sly 2. As a fan I have been waiting for a 4th game for years, half of the reason I got a PS3 was because of rumors that Sly 4 might happen (this was back in 2007-2008 so way before Sly 4 was even in development) and it finally happens but it isn't made by Sucker Punch, but instead Sanzaru. Now there are people who were disappointed in it, but I thought it was pretty good. The problem is that game ended on a cliffhanger, which was the biggest mistake Sanzaru could have made. Everything about this game was doomed to fail financially, it's a lesser known franchise getting a sequel by an unknown developer and being sold for $20 less than normal. If that wasn't bad enough Sony barely even marketed the game. So the game didn't sell well and now Sanzaru is making mediocre fucking Sonic games and other shitty shovelware, which leaves Sly fans with an unfinished series. This is especially bad because Sly 3's ending was so good. This could have been avoided by not having a cliffhanger, seriously anyone could have seen this wasn't going to sell well, why would you make a cliffhanger? The only hope left is if Sucker Punch makes another game, or if Sanzaru is making all this other stuff to get enough money to be able to make another Sly game, but that's probably just me trying to believe there is any hope left for Sly.

I just really love the Sly games, and it pains me to think that the series might end on a cliffhanger. I'd be fine if the series ended with an actual ending, would be a bit sad that it's over but at least it would be a small series of great games with very few flaws and a satisfying conclusion.

I didn't mind Sly 4's cliffhanger. I just wished Sanzaru would actually follow up on that instead of what they're doing now. They definitely have an idea as to where the Sly Cooper franchise is going to because otherwise why even make a cliffhanger in the first place?

I wouldn't mind it much either if there is going to be a sequel. I'm worried because Sly 4 didn't sell well so Sony probably won't want another one. There is the Sly movie but it's current state is really questionable, especially since the Ratchet movie flopped. I'm annoyed at Sanzaru for risking a cliffhanger ending before they've even proven themselves. Like I said, everything about this game was doomed to fail financially, so risking putting in a cliffhanger like that was foolish even if they fulling intended on following up on it.

I think my real complaint is that generally I prefer games or sonic is solo.... Sonic generations was fantastic for me.

HerosHelper but that's not quite my point… My point is that everyone moves as fast as he does… It's like if everyone could fly or if everyone was super strong, there would be no need for Tails or Knuckles, the two characters would be utterly pointless… … Besides, Sonic being the worst character is really a matter of opinion.

NegaSonic Teenage Warhead Gamma, Metal Sonic, Shadow could all do everything Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles could do. What abilities a character has doesn't matter. All because everyone is fast doesn't mean a certain character is pointless.

I'm guessing you never played Sonic Heroes or any other Sonic game that featured other playable characters. Yeah the other characters can spice things up but really what's the point? We saw what happened to Shadow when SEGA tried to shoehorn him into Rise Of Lyric. We are better off with regular Sonic clones that have slightly different abilities, as opposed to trying to get a different character's abilities go along with the gameplay.
