How did you guys get the display adaptors working ? I cannot find any way to get mine working. I cant change resolution and also the device manager tells everything is fine and nothing missed or yellow... But there is simply no tab "Display adaptors"

When you said it get hot, how hot are we talking avout under full load? I have Pipo X7 and cpu was 80c with thermal throttling as result. I had to mod it with heatsink and fan. I see that Z64 ha a heatsink but that was not enogh for my Pipo, it needed a fan too.

It got pretty warm when I was working it hard but never over heated. I just worried about it. I think a little more ventilation would put my mind at ease.

Is the Winodws 8.1 just stored on the 32 GB Flash disc ? How much space is then left to install programs ? If I would install something like Cyberlink Powerdirector 13 Video Editor would this work ? How good is the video rendering time compared to a i3 or i5 Laptop for instance ? Can you test this please ? Can you connect an USB 3.0 USB drive and have faster access to more programs, if the 32 GB are almost full ? Is this box faster than a J2900 Pentium based Mini PC ? Kaizen2013v Yes, I just did my own research on it, it is low quality 32 Bit hardware with only lame Processor and only USB 2.0....There is now a 5th Gen NUC i3 out that is much better ! Surely more expensive....but I would rather go with this then...

had some serious issues getting the A2 remote to work with the Minix Z64w. Eventually got tired of it, so bought a wireless xbox controller for windows. together with the steam addon for Kodi you can easily switch to your gaming. (combine it with steam's big screen mode and use your desktop pc to render and send content to z64)

I also ran into the same issue with the A2! Good to hear I'm not the only one. Not sure of your specific issues, but I found many of the buttons didn't work or worked strangely (i.e. hitting the 'right' button on the 4-way in KODI, only to have the cursor go up. Navigation became very frustrating and thus using it as an air mouse really was the only way to navigate effectively. I was really hoping to 'tab' between Netflix and Kodi with the remote, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen in the windows environment---maybe the A2 is best just for the Android world. Going to stick with my Logitech K400; hadn't thought about my xbox 360 remote, possibly could be a good solution.

I notice that Minix Z64 Windows version box is different and better than android version. Minix Z64 W on the bottom of the box made from cold metal or aluminium, android version bottom made from plastic. I think outside and inside of the box Minix Z64W is cooler than android version. Better to purchase windows version, because you can backup your windows and install android.

Modern day importance is on wireless streaming of media especially with XBMC does this handle 1080p MKV no problems? As most android devices handle it from memory card but when you try to play wireless it just outright fails. I love accessing my collection via SMB and am looking for the best and yet least power hungry (meaning i can leave on meaing not spec) box for my TV for streaming video. As Media streaming built into my pc and plex are okay but thats the issue there just OKAY. I wan't something cool.

Yes, you can watch 1080p on youtube but you it seems to work much better on IE instead of chrome.

herman stokbrood Hey thanks. The Z64 has a 2.4Ghz antenna so its good but not the best available. I would say get something like the Minix X8-H Plus amzn.to/1jIr4Lr which as AC WiFi and great range. I actually have a similar situation w my bedroom which is upstairs and router downstairs and the X8-H Plus works great. I bought this router amzn.to/1wvOWqL which helps a lot. Also I put the router up on a book case which made a big difference for every device in my house.

Thanks Duff. As a media player I like android better because its more user friendly with a remote and the app store is so great to install apps all in one place. Also haveing sooooo many apps ot choose from is awesome. But if you want a cheap computer or something that can play most videos from a webpage the Z64w is perfect.

wings25gti It all depends on the GPU and what this unit is meant to replace. If the unit is meant to replace a middle end older unit then it would be missing certain features that will be present in the top end replacement that might not be released yet. That is why some older top end items are still better than current ones. It seems that for now they are leaving the 4K video to their NEO X8 line.

MUSIC might be a factor with these. If you want to use spotify without paying for premium, I believe it might be better to buy the windows version. With android, (assumed phone/tablet) you cannot create a playlist, and you can only play a playlist in a random order. So for a music server, it's better to run with the windows. Your guests might want to make a request, or you might want to add their recommendation to a list. Or, if you want HD music with the new Tidal service, you can only get true lossless music with either the chrome browser, the desktop app (windows, OSX), and on SOME android devices (Some LG and Sony), no HTC or Samsung. I wouldn't think Minix is a priority. This info is from the review for Tidal on the website whathifi.com. So this is important if you want to run a music server on your living room tv.

Why do you think the Z64 [android] would be better than the X8H plus ? I actually see some bad feedback on Amazon for the Z64 [people saying it lags/locks]. When it comes to these boxes..you never know whats the best option, but most people say the Minix NEO X8H +plus- is still king.

Paul Cooper For me it will also be the first Android TV experience. In this journey of deciding whats the best choice as of right now- it took me some time to understand which model is agreed upon to be the leading performer, and it was this X8H plus. A month before that i was convinced that the PROBOX 2 EX was the best, but then i saw that the Minix X8H pro supports H265 + having a good smooth performance for 4K, so i figured it would be future proof. p.s- i also thought of getting the MINIX A2 remote, but actually I read many negative reports on all of Minix's remotes [including this one], as their battery-life only withstands 2-3 days[!!!] so, I have a feeling maybe an Rii i28 might be a worthy alternative. The most important thing is a keyboard and a mic input to voice search things!

Some of the cons will definitely keep me away from these machines until they are addressed. Now that I have a surround sound amp with HDMI, the optical output is not an issue, but may be for some people with an older receiver. No DUAL BAND wi-fi? Why not? Only 10/100 Ethernet? Not 1000? I will pass on this machine for now and wait for an excellent price on an X8-H Plus.

I found myself needing more ports a few times too. I'd like to see a flagship version of the z64w like the X8-H Plus. It would be nice if it came with USB 3.0, 1000Mbps Ethernet, Optical audio out, AC wifi, and a decent remote.

The AC wireless on the X8-H Plus is really good. I love the Z64 too though.

Hi Rivers. You answered one of my questions about this device yesterday and it was much appreciated. I had another question regarding this product that I hope you could help me with if you have the time. I recently ordered the "Minix Neo Z64A", I also ordered separately a "Rikomagic MK705" 2.4 Ghz wireless air mouse remote, (www.amazon.co.uk/Rikomagic-Wireless-Keyboard-Learning-Function/dp/B00GKMHTR4#customerReviews). Unfortunately I have found out that the buttons at the top of the remote labeled in red including the directional pad and "OK" button are only compatible with IR receivers. One reviewer in the link I posted said that the "On/Off" button at the top of the remote was unable to turn his PC on and off. My question is, would the "On/Off" button work to put the "Minix Neo Z64A" into sleep mode? I am aware that the Z64A has an IR receiver but I suspect that it would only be compatible with the included IR remote and not with any third party IR remotes such as the "Rikomagic MK705". Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Thank you for your time.

I think the IR port is mainly for the power/sleep button on the Minix remote. Other than that I don't think the IR port is used for anything.
