SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED TO THE MINI!!

Hey all! Just a quick video to go over what happened to the MINI and where I’ve been!

F56 3-cylinder 2014 model. I managed to create this issue by only moving my car forwards and backwards to reposition it to wash it. I drove around my town max 30mph and thankfully it managed to clear itself. I tied the drivetrain issue to the fact that i didnt allow the engine revs to fall back to idle, because it revs slightly to warm up the cat. Every time i start my car now i allow it to idle for 30 seconds or so before moving off and havent experience the issue since. My heart kind of sunk when you said that part of the issue is with the vanos system, only because anything that involves opening up the engine will literally cost a fortune to fix. Glad to see that youve got your mini back up and running, just seems so strange for a kind-of-major problem to happen at 35k miles. Hopefully your new job doesnt impact you too much in the way of making videos, your content is quite good :D

Sorry to hear mate. I went through a similar situation a few weeks back. Drivetrain malfunction with limp mode. The Mini dealer charged me $190 to diagnose. Both knock sensors were faulty. I was quoted $940 to replace the knock sensors. I was also told at that time that mini couldn't guarantee that replacing the sensors would fix my car possibly requiring further repair. Long story short, I couldn't fathom spending money to fix a five year old MCS with 180,000 kms on the clock which also needed new tires. I eventually traded for a 2019 MCS with 25,000 kms. I've lost some of the creature comforts of my old car and gained a few in the new car. All in all, I'm at peace with my decision. Best of luck to you

Honestly as soon as you said “BMW specialist” I almost fainted in anticipation, they love to take your cash more than anyone lol, any specialist for any car brand that is! But there are equally bad smaller businesses that will be just as hyped to overcharge, got to be careful who you deal with, even though I know it’s not a cheap job, I wish you and you mini smooth driving from here on out :) fingers crossed for no more big hiccups.

Glad you’re back, I had my f56 engine light on and I was panicking but it managed to go away that same day didn’t even notice it had went on when I got off of work till I was on the highway, I arrived home and checked the code but then it went away in a couple of minutes. Hasn’t been on ever since I’m hoping the car remains well!

My Mini, 2017, had a problem with a solenoid error on the cruise control. Luckily Mini paid the parts cost. But glad you have your car back.

Am sorry that happened to ya F56 mate😕 . I bought my 2015 Cooper s in April 2019 and had a sensor go out on it where the cars RPM would basically spike up and down (instead of shutting off) That happened the beginning of this year. It would of been about a $2000 fix but fortunately I bought an extended warranty for it. It was about $350 or so in the end.

My 2017 mini with just 15000 kms(9300 miles ) is mini service now because of the drive train error , apparently my cylinder 1and 2 fuel injectors are faulty and need replacement , didnt expect them to go faulty this soon with so little milea :(

Hey Ben, I’ve had 2 mini F56 in the last 6 years, my current one is a 69 plate and I’ve had this message come up when my learners stall sometimes, the revs go up to 1.2k and car feels weird I just get them to pull up turn the car on a off and messge just goes and the engine revs return to normal idle. In the previous mini ( 66 plate ) one day the car wouldn’t start 🤷🏻‍♂️ I got out of the car lock the doors, the horn beep twice ( this means the engine is running ) but it wasn’t on, any way called AA they came out done diagnostics by the road couldn’t find a fault, so I suggest unplug the batter - and if by magic all was ok, mini seem to have software issues and electrical gremlins .

Also I’ve had the “ high beam failure messge “ turn the car off walked away locked doors , wait 2 minutes then open doors start engine and all is ok 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I just got the same message a couple days ago but it went away when I restarted it about 30 minutes later a bit suspicious its starting to happen to different minis at the same time f56 s 57k miles

Did they say what might have caused it? Was it anything to do with the resonator delete?

I had asked why and they said they it could be a number of reasons but didn’t go into detail. I had asked if the resonator caused it and they said they it won’t effect it.

@@BenRolfe hi Rolfe thanks for your reply .I go it from SCP automotive . sent to Thailand as I live her. been back to them but they just told me to change the fuse port and I did sill the same. they did say there technical would look at the problem. but they never come back to me. it did cost me a lot of money to get it here i think with post and customs over $900. so it a bit disponing. very strange how is was working for a bit then this started it go's off after a few min sometimes and then after 30 min . could it be the OBD ? I love it in the car but not good like this .and not cheap its all been fitted good. i see in one of your video's you toke your out as it was interfering with the OBD readings. What do you think my car is new so maybe not good for this car ?

Mini do not give a flying you know what about the F56 door frame paint rub issue on any car out of warranty poor design rough door seals is to them caused by an external source.Every time I open the door on my 2015 MCS you see rust stains and bare metal,Prestige brand my ass also people with 2018 F56's have the issue,my car I bought used had bare metal and just 26k Mini know all about the issue and should recall our cars I'm waiting for Mini Liverpool to get back to me but I know they won't body shop took pics of mine 2 months ago,because of this poor design fault it's left a very bitter taste in my mouth on possible future upgrade to a newer F56 body shape Mini.

I am not being funny but why keep the car if you have to spend that oind of money on a new car with low mileage? I had a vw golf petrol with 89k for 5 years or so and most i spent was 400 quid and that was for mot generally wear and tear. Really interested in knowing and awaiting your response

I get your point but the issue I had was I either spend the money to fix it out of warranty or I sell the car without a working engine so I’d loose money on it massively as it’d only be worth scrap. I loved the car and only had it for 2 years at the time so felt like spending the money was justified.

@@BenRolfe I see, I'm guessing you sold it if so did you get decent money? Are these jcw known to have faults and repairs or are they reliable

I got a good chunk back. These B48 engines are known to be bulletproof but it looks like I may have had a duff one. The old N18 engines were notorious for faults but they stopped these when the F56 was brought out in 2014
