Darren’s character Blaine was only supposed to be in a few episodes as well - he was just going to be an ‘older mentor’ to Kurt but it’s Darren and he’s amazing so he became a regular pretty quickly! You should check out “The Climb” from High School Musical The Musical The Series - it’s a really cute cover of the Miley Cyrus song sung by the character Seb and he’s amazing!

Sorry if anyone else commented this (comments tl;dr) but the harmonies and backing vocals of this and other Warbler numbers from s2 are courtesy of the Tufts University acapella group the Beelzebubs. Darren would fly to NY to record with them, then back to LA to shoot the show. The actors who played the Warblers (all session singers) actually sang them during the Glee Live tour though.

If you want to see Kurt and Blaine sing a duet season 5 I think they actually sing better together. They sang American Boy and Love is a Battlefield. My theory is that Chris Colfer was a late bloomer (which is fine)... his voice just seemed like it matured. But I know nothing about singing.
