That's so sad if true, considering that Drag is pure concentrated misogyny. It's an insult to women. Drag is sexist blackface created by men who detest real women. Men dressed as grotesque insults portraying women as dumb bimbos, street walkers and strippers. They commonly refer to real women as "fish" as an insult (in reference to what they claim vjs 'smell' like). Sadly much of pop culture today 'celebrates' the denigration of women. And more sad is to see women embrace their haters.

I understand it when people say Sabrina's belt is not as powerful at the end, but then again her version of the song is different than the original and, in my opinion, does not require that type of belt. Sabrina is totally capable of doing a big belt (for eg, "Sue Me", "Shadows", "Smoke and Fire", etc.) She just has not been doing that sound stylistically for a while now. Earlier she used to go for a darker sound(til around 2020) but now goes for a light and airy sound(generally). Love both versions of the song though. Two Pop Princesses!!!

The just his wife line is because this song is all about the end of a Sapphic love, where one party decides they're going to give up true love to live up the standard heteronormative relationship expected by society (comphet), so Just his wife basically is saying, like yeah they're married, but it's not the full love she experienced when she was younger with a woman, now she's just wearing the title of wife but regretting the experience she left behind

@@rjScubaSki tell me you don't understand compulsive heterosexuality without telling me you don't understand compulsive heterosexuality

@@feelingReckless13 that’s why I asked. The revealed preferences of someone in today’s world who switches between partners of different sexes is that they are bi, so I guessed comp het was a wish fulfilment way of deciding for them they aren’t. But that doesn’t seem to be the general use or impression of it, it seems to be used as a behavioural explanation by people acting bi who want to identify as not bi.
@nnmarinette1181Ай бұрын
@@rjScubaSki Bi people are actually attracted to both gender while comp het refers to those who can only be attracted to the same-sex as themselves, but tries to pursue relationship with the opposite sex because a) "you'll be able to fall in love with him the way other girls would eventually, right??" or b) might as well marry/date someone of the opposite sex since you won't get shit on for it like dating someone the same gender. The 'bisexual' people that you are referring to are often those who identify as bi as first but realised that they don't actually really like the opposite sex later in life after experience, where the thoughts were originated from that societal thinking of "boys like girls/girls like boys" and never really questioned it since 'that is the ways things usually goes". This behaviour often starts from youth due to activities such as playing house (husband and wife character", as well as how social circles among kids like gossiping about dating (I used to think that "I have a crush on that boy" is a fun conversation starter that keeps the topic available to revisit throughout the year). Bisexual people exist of course! It is just that some people aren't bisexual but put themselves into the label too early on into their identity discovery, hence comp het. Hence why it is called Compulsive Heterosexualism, because it is compulsive! I hope that explains your question and shows how it isn't bi erasure, because if anything they weren't bi in the first place 😭
@rjScubaSkiАй бұрын
@@nnmarinette1181 yes; in your mind you have successfully erased bi people who end up in het relationships through sophistry. Congratulations. And in the other direction, you have nearly managed to erase people who are bisexual but end up in homosexual relationships, by blaming all of their heterosexual acts on external forces. STOP IT.

For me though Sabrina’s been around more then Chappell. I’ve known of Sabrina since her days as a Disney star and she’s had a couple albums over the years years that didn’t BLOW up but werent not not known either. For chapell though she has only two albums and she was not early as popular before blowing up as Sabrina was. Yes they both are blowing up now but I feel like chapells is way more drastic. Sabrina’s had 8 albums produced compared to Chappells two. And Sabrina’s past songs were popular. Just not top hits. I mean she was in that Alan walker song “on my way” which has like 1 billion listens. So Sabrina was being featured in popular songs people just don’t notice artists until they suddenly have a top hit.

Yesss def react to more of Chappell! Some info though 🥰 first Roan is pronounced like moan just with an R instead of M 🤣💕 she’s a drag queen so that’s why she wears those outfits because she’s in drag. And lastly she’s a lesbian and this song is about comphet (compulsory heterosexuality) which is when a lesbian forces herself to be in relationships with men and play the part of heterosexual society because of either internalized homophobia or because of family/society making it unsafe to truly embrace her identity. Chappell has said this song is about her past self and her struggles with comphet but it can also be read as the other half of lovers where the woman she loves can’t choose her and their relationship, but that’s what the lines “when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night with your head on your hands and you’re nothing more than his wife” are referring to, it’s about a lesbian regretting forcing herself to marry a man and kinda calling out the fact that she has to face that “i told you so” moment where she told herself/someone else told her. (I don’t know if this makes much sense but yeah just thought I’d give meaning 🤣🥰💕 I loved the video! Def think you should react to casual and pink pony club if you don’t do the full album!)

In the bridge "you're nothing more than his wife" is more of an allusion to the fact that person Roan is talking about is a lesbian (can also be attributed to the more broader sapphic women as well) experiencing comphet (compulsory heterosexuality) and during the course of her relationship with Chappell Roan, was essentially telling herself & Chappell that she's not a lesbian/sapphic. This ends up with her ending up in a loveless marriage to a man years later (at least on the subject's end) while Chappell is standing on the sidelines saying "I told you so"

This was a very good start with Chappell. A live performance of a breakout song, and one where she does the most elaborate version of performance art with the costume and set. The logical followup is either a whole album review of her last album, and/or a breakdown on her amazing Tiny Desk concert (you may have to break that into multiple videos to best avoid copyright--song by song with tons of analysis has seemed to work for other vocal coaches). Sabrina's cover is fine. Vocally above average. It does seem to lose the spirit, the gut level fun, of the original. But I suspect that would happen with anyone who isn't Chappell Roan. The more you dig at Chappell Roan, the wider the net you'll see of her influences. If you're hearing Cyndi Lauper here, in other songs you're going to hear Gaga, Madonna, and a whole bunch of classic torch song singers (in her ballads). But also on some stuff, sounds you haven't really heard from anyone else (I'm especially thinking of the first song on her album).

if you haven't already listened to her, I suggest you listening Laufey. She's bringing back jazz and she has a really unique voice in my opinion. I think you would enjoy her music.

React to her Tiny Desk, its honestly perfection. And also just listen to more of her songs, the lyrics are genius and the sound is fire. I love the almost yodelling she does. And she definitely writes her songs. You could literally try to list all of the influences, Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, Gaga, Stevie Nicks, you could seriously list forever. Like she feels very much like so many great artists but all packaged together into a midwestern lesbian drag princess and despite all the elements of others she is so perfectly authentically herself that you cant help but love ir all.

I love this! You experiencing this song is exactly what I was feeling /thinking as I first listened/saw her. Since then I have gone on a wild ride exploring the phenomenon that Chappell Roan. Her journey from a teen posting on KZbin coming from Christian Midwestern America to where she is now is just wild in itself. Thank you for posting! This is super fun to watch ❤

Also for context for the line "when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night, with your head in your hands you're nothing more than his wife" the song is about comphet and being unable to accept your sexuality. The person she is speaking to is a lesbian who chooses to ignore her own sexuality and marries a man only to later be filled with regret. It's a feeling of dread many lesbians who come out later in life have to come to terms with and it's cool to see a mainstream song talking about the experience :)
