SA2 is very special to us, so seeing a movie adaptation of it was tremendously fun and nostalgic. The fact they managed to make Maria’s death even more of a gut punch, while still keeping it PG (and I mean the PG when it actually meant something and not Practically G), and the surprise of the mid credits scene (it’s not that it was characters we were expecting, but the amount of a certain doppelgänger) makes me hyped for what’s to come. The 2010s were quite bumpy for our Mobian heroes, but it seems that they found their footing again.

Even with the MASSIVE changes to Shadow's story, it still really works. And Keanu really brought his A game with Shadow. You can tell he cares about the characters. One of my favorite scenes is where they're in the old base. Shadow would make a GREAT horror villain my God.

in the end shadow's story at it's core is still the same just streamlined, it still goes through the same motions so i wouldn't say massive change, them removing black doom i don't mind as adapting sonic stuff from the mid 2000s can be off at times in tone like 80% of 06

@@nightwish1453 welllll them going from being on the ARK to always being on Earth is pretty massive. Part of what makes Shadow who he is as a character is he has no real connection to Earth like the other Sonic characters do. Not to mention, Shadow was artificially created to be the Ultimate Lifeform. As a way to pursue immortality. Be a cure all. Him just being an alien from a meteor is another massive change. Again, part of his whole entire identity is his ties to being a hedgehog hybrid that was bioengineered. BUT like you said, it is streamlined, and not as convoluted for the movie, so it does still work. The core parts are still there, Shadow feeling out of place. Being experimented on. Maria being his only light. The loss was still hard. And I like that it was an accident here, vs an intentional klling like before.

Movies have to tell an entire story in 2 hours or less, and going too far into Shadow's origins would raise questions that they didn't have time to answer.

Shadow knows nothing of his time before before being found so they could steal from dragon ball (again) and have shadow be sent by black doom to conquer earth but he didn't remember his mission.

As a diehard fan, you definitely get more out of it by knowing the games and understanding all the references. For instance: In Adventure 2 there is a bossfight against a giant ghost, the movie references this by briefly mentioning Knuckles has a fear of ghosts, in a way that's somewhat relevant to the actual scene. Also there's ACTUAL SONIC MUSIC, IN A SONIC MOVIE. For Sonic 2 it seemed like the composers had only ever heard of Green Hill, and the drowning theme which appears for like 3 seconds in a 'blink and you miss it' moment. There were way more musical references in this one, which I enjoyed immensely.

I loved Sonic 3 from the beginning to the end. The premiere recently was in my hometown, Mexico City, and it was one of the best days I have ever had. Great action, comedy and emotional parts were the highlights of this film. For those who want to see the movie, I can say it is a love letter to the fans and the future for this franchise is literally a dream come true. The only part "I didn't like" it was the pacing, since it was a little bit too fast in various scenes. Now I'm excited for the 4th one in 2027 and my last one as a Youngster since I will be 29 years old early that year and later I'll be 30 in June 12th.

Really enjoyed the after credits. Sonic runs too far during a race (winds up in New York). Suddenly he's surrounded by Metal Sonics. As they start to attack a strange hooded figure leaps out with a huge hammer and starts demolishing them. The figure comes up to him and pulls back the hood. I honestly haven't played that many games and don't know a lot of the characters, but somehow I already knew who I was going to see beneath that hood.

Being a Sonic fan and not being surprised at some twists and turns they’re doing with a particular character is a lot like being a Marvel fan and not being that surprised with a few twists and turns with a certain character. Not being surprised that Shadow eventually turned good is like not being surprised Winter Soldier eventually turned good in the Captain America movies. It’s mainly about how they adapt that character’s story on the big screen, how it works in that movie’s universe, and how it stands out from the original. Even if it largely depends on how well written it is or isn’t.

genuinely as a massive sonic fan, this is the perfect movie we could have asked for. ofc there's some room for improvement but what they had in the movie perfectly delivered. especially all the little nods and references throughout the movie to Sonic Adventure 2 which this one had taken massive inspiration from (since its Shadow's introduction). and when the time came for the action, there's no better way to describe it than absolute peak cinema. the camerawork, the cgi, the GODDAMN MUSIC O MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! 9.5/10

As someone very familiar with the source material, I wish it was over two hours instead of under. Despite being my favorite story in the games, Sonic Adventure 2’s plot has its issues, and SOME were fixed in the adaptation(Sonic has more to do, they omitted the evil twin confusion cliché where the hero has to suffer because everyone else left their brains at home), but I wish they’d expanded on more. More of Shadow and Maria, maybe make going to space a big deal since, unlike the games, this was the first time in the films, and I feel the absence of Rouge. Her and Shadow’s friendship really does kickstart his character development in a way that feels just a little forced here. It has its own issues in SA2, but I think if you gave that sense of Shadow caring about someone in the present day, it’d feel more natural that he’d be convinced to stop the Eclipse Cannon

I don't understand why you didn't at least like the First Sonic movie. I mean it clearly was vastly more entertaining than a lot of modern media, with no aggressively political message behind it. Plus the people behind the movie put the brakes on and actually changed the design of Sonic after the backlash and feedback of the more "realistic" first design. That was a commendable thing of Fowler and his team to do, to give us cute and cuddly anthropomorphic alien animals instead of nightmare fuel roadkill.

In my opinion, the first Sonic film was a *mediocre movie* but it was an *amazing video game movie* if that makes sense. Paramount played it really safe with the first film because they kinda had to considering the fact that video game films at the time had a reputation of being laughably bad. But now thanks to projects like Sonic, Detective Pikachu, and Mario 2023, video game movies are finally getting the respect they deserve. Anyway, I felt Sonic 1 was your average fish out of water story that plays it safe and just so happens to star Sonic. Sonic 2 was a huge improvement and a step in the right direction and all in all felt like a true Sonic Movie. The Knuckles Mini-Series is harmless filler meant to flesh out the character of Sonic’s red friend. And Sonic 3 felt like the franchise has taken its stand to present itself as a family-friendly MCU-ish blockbuster juggernaut. Oh how far we have come from the 2019 Ugly Sonic trailer. 5 years later, now Sonic is beating Disney in terms of critic reviews! Who would’ve thought we’d see this?!😮 Here’s hoping that in another 5 years, Paramount will be open to a PG-13 Shadow solo film!😊

It's so awesome that the people behind these movies are seemingly being given free rein to lean as far into the absurdity from the games as they wish at this point. An alien emo 'hedgehog' shooting a gun while riding a motorcycle is some absolutely stupid video game bullshit but it's there on the big screen and it _works_. Personal opinion obvs, but Detective Pikachu had a super weird vibe about it. It was okay, but something about it just rubbed me the wrong way and in my one viewing when it came out on digital I could not for the life of me pinpoint it.

I've said this to several other groups already, but the animators are the ones who made this work. Ugly, emotionless CGI characters can't make even an Oscar worthy script work, so the fact that the animators managed to capture even the subtlest of emotions in the characters makes everything else work better

I thought they handled Shadow's backstory as well as they could have. Honestly it's the most screentime Shadow & Maria have ever gotten together since she was always just shown in seconds long memories. They do tone Maria's death down, in the game a GUN Soldier just shoots her. The reason for the people and animals feeling off is probably cause they did the cgi first before getting the cast to act due to covid.

As someone who grew up in the 2000s on the Adventure era and the Sonic X TV show, it's just quite a shame to see that some people still hate human characters being in Sonic. I actually thought they were handled a lot better in the movies simply because it's modern movies and you can do a lot more with the celebrities or actors you cast in a live action film in terms of wanting to do great acting. I would even say that I'm kind of a defender of the Knuckles Paramount Plus series just because it gave us a little bit more to work off of with Wade while also sprinkling some more Sonic lore here and there. I'm not stupid to understand that the movies aren't supposed to be the games and for the most part, the movie universe is basically more of a grounded approach when introducing fantastical elements from the games. I'm hopeful that we might actually see more Sonic stuff like Amy and the Echidna tribe making a comeback in some shape or form. Most of us just gotta be open minded with how the way this universe wants to depict stuff in their stories.

@@ceylancobalt3117 And yet they didnt even rlly portray Geralds relationship with Maria. Little missed opportunity. I do think Eggman needed the time tho for obvious reasons, but couldve used a few more Shadow scenes indeed. Theres a pretty big chunk where hes painfully absent.

This was pretty much everything I wanted from a Sonic movie. It was just pure fun throughout the whole movie and I don't think I've laughed so consistently at a movie all year. Loved it

I was absolutely blown away tbh I think they really managed to write these versions of the characters the best they ever have in the entire film trilogy, and put together and animated some of the best scenes in the franchise, at least here and there where they managed to go above and beyond the games. Nothing will ever really beat the feeling of playing and mastering Sonic games, but this is one movie I think gets close to that level of hype and satisfaction with each character.

Sorry to disagree Doug, but this film is better than decent, it's great if not amazing. The things they do with Shadow and his backstory either live up to what's come before or surpass it! Without spoiling much there's a REALLY emotional montage that gave me Up vibes, it wasn't AS powerful as that film but it's like Up Junior for me. Everything involving Shadow was the number one thing this movie needed to get right and it totally worked!

Saw it in 4DX and it was pretty much like that one scene from the Mr. Bean movie where Mr.Bean tampered with a simulation ride, So it was that cool. Just be careful when having food & drink on it XD.
