I have a question please. I know that to unlock this game you must play sonic 3 & sonic and knuckles 20 times or something, but do u have to finish the games? the sandopolis zone is one of my hated zones due to the fact in act 2 that ghosts are stalking you, and it's really confusing

@Bartalon Practice =/= tool assisted. Really, most of these times aren't even that hard to pull off. So, Sega put in the Lightning Shield, am I not supposed to abuse that? Or the sub spin? Out of all the battles, only the Hydrocity bosses are tough to pull off with any consistancy. The sub boss was a stupid recording that somehow paid off, so it was included. I know this is the internet, but people generally do label their videos if tool assisted. This video is patience and blind luck.

I remember replaying the demo of this as a kid, because we didn't have the full version. I also remember that after the last part, only once, somehow I could continue the game for while longer because of a bug and could play the water level until I died and the game once again recognized that it was only a demo version and quit.

@samushunter242 Yep, it sure did. The PC version used Midis due to hardware and space limitations at the time. It also replaced the music for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base, as well as the Sonic 3 versions of the Knuckles theme, the Mini-Boss theme, and the credits music. I assume this was because they had a hard time replicating the original tracks with midi. Or according to some people it has something to do with them being Michael Jackson's songs. *shrug*

@Bartalon No cheats were used, but he did use a Video add-on and possibly an Emulator if he did not have a Sega Genesis, which will eleminate the need for a Video add-on and he would use Hypercam.

@sonichawk10 Sonic 3 & knuckles is the full game that was meant to be released, but the game would cost more to be on 1 cartridge. so they were split into sonic 3 and sonic & knuckles. but sonic and knuckles has a lock on tech that can fuse with sonic 3 and thus become the full game they were meant to be. can also fuse with sonic 2 to play as knuckles in sonic 2.

@GamerWatcher You're still not understanding. No, I wasn't implying that at all that, you're misinterpretation what I was implying. I wasn't implying anything about replacing the original 3 on any nature. My initial interpretation was due to the fact that it didn't add to the originality of the first 3, instead it was basically nothing more then taking the best from the last 3, in which my statement I implied that this game could have been much better if it added more originality to it.

@struggle75 Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are really 2 games. The "final" boss at Sonic 3 is the final boss if u play the game by itself. If you combine the 2 games and play through the game the final boss from Launch Base won't appear and then later on you fight the real final boss in Death Egg, which is both the final boss playing S&K by itself and when the 2 games are combined.

@GamerWatcher What i implied about nothing replaces the original 2D Soncis is on the same aspect of how people tried for years to do that with other classic arcade hits that shouldn't have been remade like pac-man for exp. Classic games when they are remade years later 9 times out of 10 are worse then the originals that they tried to duplicate. Same concept goes to certain classic movies as well that Hollywood tried to remake years later that ended up being worse then the original itself.

For the remastered Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles could they put in a soundtrack option to switch between Sonic 3 music and Sonic & Knuckles music and if they could fix the music for Big Shaker so that it plays the same theme like the other sub-bosses in Sonic 3 and the Eggrobo sprite for the Hang Mobile when playing as Knuckles.

when the game first boots up and just after the sega logo disappears press up, up, down, down, up, up, up, up. this gives you level select. now just scroll through the intro menu and find sound test (underneith championship) and when selecting a level hold a and press start. once in the level, B enters and exits debug, A scrolls the available objects and C places them.

In Sonic Mega Collection (for Gamecube), you must unlock that game. On the original system, you had to "lock into" the game by lifting the flap on top of the Sonic 3 cartride and placing Sonic and Knuckles there, I think.

Did anyone say that the S&K boss music can be heard without Debug Mode aswell already? Just start to drown while fighting the Hydrocity main boss, jump out of the water again and there you go, the music changes. Sorry if it's been mentioned already... or, you know, if you knew.

Although the Hydrocity sub-boss has the wrong music, you can secretly play the "Sonic & Knuckles" sub-boss music in that fight: wait till Sonic is grasping for air during that countdown sequence, then jump up to surface, and it'll play. It only works with "Sonic 3" without the "Sonic & Knuckles" cartridge connected. I never understood why Robotnik's Death Egg got destroyed because Sonic beat him in a fight. That's a logic still done in video games today.

Here's your answer, plain and simple: You want "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles". If you cannot find it, then to play the other levels, you'll have to get a separate rom for Sonic & Knuckles to play those levels. It means no Hyper Sonic, however, since they're separate roms. Hope this helps.

sonic 3 was full of those glitches(plus a lot of falling through walls) because they took half the programing out of it when the split it into sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles, then when the MJ controversy took hold they made it so the S&K music files overwrote the sonic 3 sound bank

luckily i picked up the original cartridges a couple of years back and fully completed it with all characters. Means Hyper sonic, Knuckles and Tails. Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are essentially two halves of the same game. You're always best off playing them together.

You need to use Tails' helicopter like-tails, and go underneath Robotnik. You need a light touch, as too much and you'll collide with the pod with Tails' body. The flames on the pod also hurt. With Tails, it's by far the hardest boss in the game. The more hits you can get on him before the ground gets destroyed, the better. It's tough to actually hit him in battle, I'd advise you only try hitting the boss when he's travelling to the right.

Since you taught me that you can go throught the final boss's arms via the insta shield, I think I should attempt to teach you something. You know that while he's hovering back and forth, when you have to jump over his spikes on his head? Well you can land on his head while he's doing that with the insta shield. It should shorten your time taken up during that boss by quite a bit.

I remember when I played Sonic 3, I was at the Hydrocity sub-boss and all of a sudden in the middle of the boss, the original boss music switched to the one from Sonic and knuckles. It was weird

The Sub-Bosses are from Sonic 3 and not from Sonic 3 locked on Sonic & Knuckles. They changed the Music in Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

funny when i played a demo for this on pc it didn't use the actual sounds. it sounded like midi versions of actual music (don't know if it maters but it was a long time ago when i played the demo)

As I was fighting the final boss with Tails I saw that I was running out of time and thought "well you´re going to die anyway" and charged the spindash while Robotnik was at the top of screen. When he came down, I released spindash and he got killed. And if that´s not funny, I tell you the clock stopped at 9:59.

It just doesn't appear. The game skips it. I assume it's because it seems a little odd having a "boss rush" in what is now the middle of the game. Knuckles fights it but skips the first Robotnik boss in that level instead.

Actually I hit sonic's version of marble garden's boss 8 times. However eggman didn't die. Rather he died in the air on the 9th hit.

I think both series are pretty equal musically, although the Sonic series tends to have more variety per game. Mario music got really good with Super Mario Galaxy, that game has a stellar soundtrack. (Besides, we all know Sonic 2 has the best soundtrack ever. :P SMG is a close second though. XP) Besides if Mario music was crap, we wouldn't put up with it throughout an entire game. At least if the Sonic series gets a bad song it's only there for a level or two.

The sub-boss in Hydrocity is the only one that does not have the sub-boss music, but instead, the main boss music.

Anyone who has had to beat the abysmal Carnival Night (act 2) boss as Tails, unable to use the insta-shield, ligntning shield (to double-jump), or Super Tails has my deepest symphaties. The Boss Run as Tails is suprisingly tough. Espsically Marble Garden.
