For future reference, the Japanese and US N64s are 100% identical in every way except the plastic tabs in the cartridge port. The motherboards and components are the same. The everdrive already accounts for every possible tab configuration from nintendo. In other words, if your Japanese unit won't play something, a US one won't play it either. The electric region lockout stuff only differentiates PAL and NTSC. The plastic tabs do the rest.

We were reviewing the videos on your BDIWORH playlist and we relived this moment with Sonic Adventure 64 who didn't want to cooperate xD It may no longer be possible, but if by chance you still have one of the Nintendo 64 consoles, you could have your second chance and be able to fulfill that desire of seeing Sonic on the legendary N64. We don't know if you've seen it, but there is another more updated version of SM64 with our favorite blue hedgehog, you can find it as Mario 64 Sonic Edition (there is a normal version, a Plus version, and both with playable character variants), available for the original N64 and for the PC port. Maybe if your curiosity and possibilities allow it, you can try it and have your "revenge" with this experience. Oh.. and of course, if the console doesn't refuse to load it again :P We wish you the greatest success in everything and may it be a prosperous year for you! The same errors you'd find on those Zelda Mods with Mario as main playable character. You can't play them on real hardware because most of the codes has changed to be unreadable by the console, or has a ridiculous ROM size usage which makes it impossible to work under N64 limitations (careless, not-so-much-architecture-understanding devs, EMULATION oriented devs, etc). Aaaaand sometimes some people do this to prevent people on playing it in the actual console (the 2p Mario 64 Co-Op mods do work on real hardware). Hardware wise, JP and US N64 are identical, rip theirs tabs in the cart slot and either wouldn't recognize the difference between either JP/US carts. If you bypass somehow the PAL lock-out chip though, the console would also play them, but at a lower rate or on the otherwise, games would play faster (I think this was used to cheat in speedruns, lol).
