I appreciate that you stayed away from a lot of cliches in reviews, and sometimes even just reviews of this game, such as showing the Emerald Power tutorials, looping footage and using the Avatar power against the first boss. It helped your footage feel fresh, which is great when watching a bunch of these videos back-to-back!

Boss battles starting at press factory, basically all those bosses having one hit KO and bottomless pits feel kind of cheap to me especially with no Midway checkpoint or option for Midway checkpoint. I think the superform button should be mapped to a different button than the emerald Powers so you have easier access to it. Other than that I think the level design was pretty good minus trip stages, I do think that every stage should have had 2 acts, and frozen base should have had a real act two and act two should have been between stages.

This was interesting! I'm glad you decided to just tell us how your thoughts went the longer you played! I actually feel a bit different from you though. I think the Eggman and Fang final boss fights are good fights, but the main issue is the lack of checkpoints. I can see people not liking the Fang one a bit more with the spider webs + the final slam move, but I genuinely enjoyed how challenging it all was. I talked to another friend about it and while Eggman and Fang took us some time, it did feel like mostly fair fights and was super satisfying to beat them. I think an issue the game does have are that bosses drag on far too long, so when you die to a boss after spending like...10+ minutes on it and reaching the second phase, of course you'll probably rage quit. That's why I stress that a checkpoint in-between would have been so much better. Anyways, while I personally prefer the level design of the main campaign over Trip's campaign, I wouldn't say the inclusion of Trip's more harder difficulty is bad. Locking extra story content (Super Sonic boss fight) behind a harder story isn't a good decision. Hard mode options should be fun unlockables for die hards (like myself) to enjoy, but shouldn't be a mandatory thing to finish for more casual players to experience the final/true story. The idea of Trip going on her own adventure is cool but execution could have been better. Superstars is a good game, but I personally rank is low amongst the 2D Genesis type games (1, 2, CD, 3&K, Mania). It mainly comes down to me not caring for the levels here as a whole as much as previous games, and bosses being too dragged out, but I still had a lot of fun completing it and will put tons of more time into it because it's Sonic.

Honestly, I think I agree with what you said about having the bar kinda high after mania but this game isn’t terrible. Everything that you said was spot on as far as the boss fights. I really haven’t even bothered playing this game after I completed it.

I kept hearing about boss battles being a pain and I hate bosses in Sonic to be honest... the faster they can die the better. Will wait for a price drop because $59.99 raises the bar to higher expectations than what it is.

As I major sonic fan I feel you, I share the sentiment at a 100% but sadly I won’t beat Trip’s final boss, the ridiculous amount of time you have to wait to hit Fang is a turn off.

Superstars is designed to make you want to replay until you get better and faster at it which is the core philosophy of the classic games. The experience gets better the more you replay the game. It's definitely not trying to give an amazing first impression like Mario games do, you basically have to earn your good impressions.

Even both Egg Fortress bosses are quite fun if you memorize them enough to never die (which is necessary for one of them for the last golden badnik to save). Those bosses seriously wouldn't be bad if they had checkpoints and no insta-kills.

I consider Trip Story to be more of a bonus content kind of deal, so I don't really get how it can affect the opinion of the game as a whole that being said, that fang boss fight was brutal

@@Aktedya1-jt7vw that's definitely weird, it's a similar deal as the adventure/"dark age" games But the argument I can make is that you don't really need to play the Super Sonic fight, considering the setup for the fight was minimal (at least in the game itself) The game also don't tell you there's a Super Sonic fight, so a hypothetical person that doesn't go to the internet as much, wouldn't be missing much

Tfw a 3D sonic game felt less controversial than a 2D one (yes the final horizon update for Frontiers was a tad divisive because of the difficulty spike but that’s largely because of one trial and you can still toggle the difficulty down to easy. Other than that most people still liked it.)

I just turned the game off during the Fang fight. Why give the Player fucking Rings if Fang or FUCK FACE because that's what he is can instantly kill you either way. Ugh that stupid fight makes me mad lmao 🤣

Hard bosses and levels don't sound like a con to me. As a souls player. All things considered, your complaints seem more like a skill issue than anything else. If anything, I've always felt that Sonic games are piss easy, so this is actually selling me on the game, if anything. Now, if you wanted to lay out why the challenges presented were perhaps "unfair", then I could understand where you are coming from. But that's not what you did.

For me the bosses weren't hard, they were annoying, you don't have any kinds of options, since you mentioned souls where you can learn bosses to completely dominate eventually. In this game you hit a boss once and then you have to wait around until they get hitable again, until then you just dodge around or simply wait, there is nothing to learn really and if you happen to die you might have to wait around for 5 minutes again with no way to speed the battle up with skill or anything, which is a problem since some bosses one hit you by crushing you between the ground and some form of attack. In older sonic games you could win against bosses in a few seconds if you knew what you are doing. Here it feels like a glorified quick time event.

I didn't played the trip story, but the main story bosses aren't a problem for me, majority aren't that hard, and the ones that are hard, I enjoyed the difficulty

Sounds like you got burnout. Pretty weak review to complain for the game getting harder as you get to the extra bonus modes... people will probably do sonics campaign then play something like soider man for a bit be real dude
