I really like Mantic! Their games to me are second to none and as a company they get us gamers. That being said their models to me are hit and miss. If they could just get a maker that can deliver the crispness that we see coming out of other companies! And why run the mold line down the middle of the face? I’ll buy these and build and paint them along with all my other Mantic models that I’ve done since the beginning, but they missed the boat with these Marauders. I’m now and always a “Mantic Fanatic” but in a day and age where 3D printers can deliver super crisp detailed models they need to rethink their process. Thanks for the great painting tutorial!

Personally, I would have drilled the barrels. I enjoy doing it, and find it quick, but most importantly it's like a hitch-hiker's towel. Someone sees the drilled barrel, they assume everything else is better than it really is, whatever their eyes may tell them.

Mantic figures are great for bulking out enemy forces in mini agnostic solo games - like you say, the fuzziness on detail (and awkward mold lines across hair etc) makes them less suited for the character types, but for the price you really can't argue.

Deadzone is one which I should like, though I can't really wrap my head around squares on a table as a movement concept. Plenty of people seem to quite like it, all the same! Firefight being a little more classic wargame makes it more accessible to my old mind.

Rusty guns are a pet peeve of mine. Personal taste I know, I always prefer having really weathered models with clean weapons. You might be dirty, tired, hungry, and cold but if you take care of your rifle, it'll take care of you. Also drink water boys lol

Scrag Brown is really versatile: I like to use Vallejo Orange Brown for the same purpose, it's very similar.

Thanks for another great video. You said you had a problem with the parts of the mini that did not have a lot of detail. GW had the same problems when they started selling their products way back, but I still have them in my army's. Lastly I was debating on buying this box set as GW is now way to expensive but getting to see the minis up close and painted it's a yes for me thanks.

When it comes to the cost for number on miniatures and options vs. price, I feel the same way about Wargames Atlantic. Are their Death Fields minis as nice as GW? No, but you get tons of more options in a box AND double the miniatures for $15 less a box. So needless to say Wargames Atlantic is my go-to for guardsman. And they have a better variety that I can use as counts-as for units like Vostroyans or Steel Legion. Whereas GW seems to have forgotten about most of these old guardsman units for the most part. I do like those orcs. For some reason they almost remind me of Vietnam-style orcs. Maybe it's the uniform and the rifle?

I'm a big fan of WA's les grognard models- with the gasmask and tin hat heads, they're pretty good traitor guards/ death korps of not-krieg, and they work in most sci-fi games, too. The orcs do have a nice Vietnam feel to them. I'd happily field them as a Bloodaxe army that's been heavily influenced by Catachan, or something similar.

An alternative are the Kromlech Minis which are actually pretty good and also much cheeper compared to GW. To my opinion also looking better at least partially.

Very nice! I've been kind of disappointed in the hobby in general recently. So many people are upset with the direction GW is going (prices/rules/etc.), yet when I offer to show them the plethora of wonderful games out there; many free and minis agnostic so there's literally zero need to buy anything more, the response is "no" and they go back to complaining. It's really demoralizing sometimes.

I guess it's because the people are involved in the universes and the lore GW has created, i.e. Warhammer Fantasy or now the newer lore of Age of Sigmar and of course 40k.

I pointed out to someone today that you could either buy the new Necromunda 'starter' and look forward to having to buy more terrain and books, or buy both the Deadzone and Firefight starters together, have enough minis for variety in both games and have all the books you'll need for the same price... stony silence...

I'm having a "i followed the instructions, i swear" moment with mine. The facial features seem to disappear after I paint them, so my teeth and eyes are atrovious and the other details seem to just be so unclear. Hopefully the Agrax i ordered clears them up a bit.
