My favourite tech I’ve ever had was a man - he found my first ectopic pregnancy, my healthy baby and my gallbladder stones 6 weeks after I had my first born. He was always gentle and seemed to care!

There are other female sonographers on KZbin who say males absolutely should not do any scans on woman. They are bold about it too. I've had 9 scrotal ultrasounds due to systs, and Inguinal hernias. All 9 were done by woman. I was never asked if I wanted a male. One female tech. Pulled off my blanket. Fully exposing my entire penis, to re-adjust it, instead of asking me to do it. Also for a man, you never spoke about whether his chaperone should be same gender. I would assume 95% of chaperones would be female. Luckily I never had a chaperone. Another second female in the scan would make it even more uncomfortable. I've had that with seeing a female NP in the doctors office. There still exists a serious issue of double standards in sonography. Men certainly have feelings too.

I just left the Army and I was worried about going into the sonography field because I have tattoos and being a male in the field I want to make sure everyone is comfortable with me doing what I need to do. Starting school this fall and I'm so excited thank you for the video!

There’s many areas in ultrasound. You don’t have to do obs and gynae if you are a male. I’m currently doing MSK and injections, with potential to do abdomens and necks etc and FNA

Besides Sonographer, which has a short training period, a high salary and is very professional, what other occupations can you recommend to young male students?

Hi Kristy! I just found your KZbin page. I absolutely love your vibe and the guidance you offer in your videos. I recently got accepted into CBD College’s DMS Program and I will be starting next month! Super excited! To answer the question you posed in this video about male patients requesting chaperones - my opinion is that whatever makes the patient most comfortable should be accommodated for them if it’s within reasonable parameters. Regardless of gender! I hold the belief that patient comfortability should be a priority because this allows for us to deliver more of a quality healthcare. When working with patients, I try my best to not take their requests or accommodations personally because at the end of the day I am there to serve them the best I can along with the team I am working with. Their comfortability is more of a priority to me than my own feelings lol. When the patient is comfortable and relaxed it allows for us to do our job better than if not. I’m super excited to start this journey into sonography. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you one day :) thanks for all that you do. Keep up the awesome work girl!

The only problem is comfort, modesty, and privacy is mandatory for females, but optional and arbitrary for males.

Indubitably 😂 This is a great video you guys are so fun and informative! I work with a ton of male sonographers and they’re some of the best coworkers. Can’t wait to send this to all the guys who ask about the field because we gotta show it’s possible for them to thrive in a female dominant career. 😍 Another gem of a video! 🙌🏽👏🏽 CHEERS!

Hi I am accepted in both general in Lake Michigan 4 hours from my city and cardio sonography 30 minutes from my house the length and tuition in both the same and both are accredited. So my question is which one has mor opportunity for jobs . Please answer me from your experiences

General
@courtneyn41572 жыл бұрын
I would say general just because more specialties are within it. You can scan breast,ob/gyn, musculoskeletal, liver, abdomen, etc. whereas cardiac is just scanning the heart.

As an ultrasound technician, are you guys always exposed to dim and dark places when working? Or it really depends on which division you are at? What percentage of the time you are exposed to dim lights? My eyes are pretty sensitive and I get dizzy from looking at my phone in the dark! This probably isn’t for me? What do u think…
@KristyDMS2 жыл бұрын
that's a great question. typically, monographers have to scan in the dim light or dark in order to see the different shades of grey on their machine accurately. I can understand the concern when compared to looking at a phone, but the phone lets off different light that can strain eyes. the ultrasound machine is quite different, if anything it helps how you look at the machine in the dark. I had that concerned too before and talked to my eye doctor about it. its totally fine.

Doctors and clinics do not seek out male sonographers it’s a Chaperone problem, women, patients have to have a Chaperoneone if there’s a male sonographer, mpatience do not have to have a Chaperoneone with a woman sonographer, it’s a matter of cost and lack of personnel so men will not be hired, men must realize that ultrasound sonography is a good, clean, good paying job that is not promoted by schools. There’s so much double standard and healthcare against men, that even people in healthcare acknowledge, I wish schools would encourage more young men to erase these double standards…

As far as scrotum scans the best way to comfort the patient is to make it known to him. The scanner will never see his genitals, because when he changes he will cover up himself and put the sheet over his genitals and you, as the sonographer will be looking at the monitor and above the sheet and never below, since the testicles are a moving part, you may have to adjust them, also a rolled up towel under the testicles with the legs closed, will help raise the testicles, this will give the patient comfort, knowing he still has privacy… Please respond !

I’m curious - did you feel like you understood what you were seeing on ultrasound before actually going to school? I’ve had many ultrasound and I can see everything while having one on a fetus but when they looked at my gallbladder/liver/kidney I really couldn’t tell what they were looking at 😂 I’m hoping to get into diagnostic medical sonography in 2023, but I feel like I might be going in with less education than the other student will be!

If you drape the patient properly, you do not have to see his genitals at all, but I guess it’s your preference to see the patient’s genitals, curiosity is a strong feeling

I’m a female and would love to be a Sonographer, but honestly I’m nervous to learn GYN for the transvaginal ultrasounds lol. I never used a tampon for my periods so just to find the vaginal whole I would really have to look down their pretty hard just to see where would I stick the probe 😂. 28 year’s old with 2 children and 1 on the way and I just feel like a virgin who doesn’t know the female anatomy. At least if you use tampons you know how to stick something up the vagina. #ImJustBeing100

I think female sonographers who do scrotal ultrasounds alone with no male chaperones are predatory, indifferent, and apathetic in contrast to male sonographers who utilize female chaperones for pelvic ultrasounds on female patients to insure the legal confidence, privacy, and comfort that male sonographers provide for female patients.
@maxximusi50493 ай бұрын
You ask females, would you be comfortable with a male sonographer. Do females ask males, are you comfortable with a female. Do female US techs feel hurt when males only want a make US Tech. Do female US techs ask males if they want male chaperones for testicular exams. Only female chaperones for transvaginal ultrasounds. Did you require male chaperones for testicular ultrasounds. If not, not very egalitarian. Why would be a double edged sword. It should be bilaterally enforced without question. If it were inverted, it would concisely be resolved no matter the circumstance if it were a female. She gaslighrs the situation and brings up the question for a testicular, or transrectal needing a chaperone (amusing that she says if they need a chaperone, not indicating the sex of the chaperone which would be female and exacerbate the situation for the male for the worse). I'm sure all the male "invasive" procedures she does it alone. Yeah, males be wary, and cautious of the vulnerable, and precarious positions, female healthcare workers when approaching you.
@maxximusi5049Ай бұрын
Hey, got a question. Is it okay if you have a male student with a male ultrasound tech for a pelvic, or breast ultrasound. I see female students with female ultrasound techs performing testicular, prostate, and duplex penile ultrasounds routinely.

I’m happy he has tattoos. That’s my question. I’m starting sonography school and I do have a tattoo on my forearm. Do we just have to make sure they are covered up?

Some if not most institutions will require you to cover your ink. At CBD they required it ! I just bought those athletic sleeves basketball players wear as I didn’t want to wear long sleeves and it’s great if u jut want to cover one arm. I personally choose to cover my ink cause you never know who you’ll meet in a daily basis !
