Overheating Update 2: I went ahead and did an endurance run. I recorded in 4k24p. I was able to record continuously for a little over 2 hours and 20 minutes before the batteries died. This is using the time hack and a small usb fan to cool the system. I'm trying to illustrate the possible duration using the grip.
@that1cameraguy8 жыл бұрын
I was just using a usb fan. I didn't have it setup or anything for proper use. I'm trying to build a rig with the cage that incorporates a fan though.
Why do you expect the battery grip to help the overheating issue and review it like it was meant to address it. For one, that grip is made of plastic which means very poor conductor of heat.

I got a 30 min recording for the first time with my Sony a6000, using the Smallrig cage during a fireworks display. Late night, 70 F and the screen in the open position.The Smallrig cage will prevent your hands from making contact with the body of the camera, keeping the heat of your body away when it is not sitting on a tripod. I'll be doing more tests soon to see if I can duplicate the 30 minutes mark in sunlight and warmer weather. You can see the setup on my Instagram link. instagram.com/vikingdescendent/

Nice review. I have a question, I am thinking about getting this Grip in Order to extend the battery life for Shooting timelapse. Therefore I searched for experiences attached to a tripod. You mentioned this grip might bend while using a bigger lens. May I ask you to try this one on a tripod. Lenses which I will use will be the 16-70 Zeiss, different Sigma lenses 19mm, 30mm, 60mm and maybe my tamron 1750 and Sigma 10-20 with the LE EA 4. Thanks in advance
@that1cameraguy8 жыл бұрын
It'll flex a little. The lenses you mention don't see overly front heavy. Use overtime it may have issues. I've had a longer 70-300 on a monopod with the battery grip. It held up, but their was some flex.

very cool! thanks for the video! so I have the neewer a6000 battery grip that I use on my a6300. the problem is, when I use my sigma 18-35 on the glidecam with it, it's too much weight and the grip flexes and it adds shake or wobble to videos. Which kind of ruins the point of the glidecam. is there anyway on this new grip that the connection would be better or if there was a way you could make the connection stronger? it would be so helpful if you could test it.

Thanks for the info; the grip I have for the a6300 has the same separation issue from the body. do you think the $300 sony grip (or even the one you have pictured from the a7s) would fit on the a6300? What is you opinion on the Fuji XT2? I've seen the review of the preproduction unit from tcstv. seems to be amazing for what it is.. price point still higher, but without the a6300 issues and more native aps-c lenses it seems to be a great deal. what do you think?

I think it's awesome. It shows that manufacturers are listening to the consumer and we're going to benefit in the end. I think lens selection is a factor for me. If there were better adaptors, I'd be interested. If Fuji sends me a unit, I'd be happy to review it though.

I use the a6300 on a tripod a lot. Is the grip loose enough to make it not stable on a tripod? Thanks
@that1cameraguy8 жыл бұрын
It depends on the lens. If you put a long telephoto lens on it, it will flex. I'm sure with enough time, the grip may become unstable. In the meantime while I tested it. It's fine. Do you have an example of a lens you might mount on it?

@that1cameraguy8 жыл бұрын
You change the batteries through the cage that slides in from the side. The only thing you have to remove the grip for is the memory card. I have the batis 85 which weighs 475grams. Having it on a tripod, it feels secure. I don't see any major flexing on the grip at all.

Hey Man! I absolutely love your videos, definitely the most thorough and complete Sony-specifc channel on YT. I am unsure as I've heard a lot of bad criticism and I want to solve my camera's overheating... Thanks in advance!
@that1cameraguy7 жыл бұрын
It won't solve overheating. When I use it, I try to make sure I support my lenses properly so it doesn't bend at the flex point. If you plan to use the grip heavily, like professionally, it's not going to last in my opinion. If you use it from time to time, it'll be good.
