Great idea getting down low. I don't recall ever seeing photographs of the Sandhill Cranes at that level. Nice Photographs

Those first few distant shots of the pelicans with the foggy background are nice. If I had taken those I’d consider making a print of it. Great shots!

groups of the white pelicans show up here in spring and fall during their migration. Same here as where you are, they tend to stay pretty far out.

Happy new year to you, nice to see the Sony a6700 used for wildlife, bif, looks like the focus is spot on! shame about the rolling shutter, similar problem to the R7.

Nice video. I just received the same gimbal head for Christmas and am hoping for favorable weather conditions to warrant a drive up to Wheeler NWR to try it out on cranes there.

Great video. Thinking about checking out one of those gimbals. I have a tripod with a ball head, but generally shoot handheld and switch out between a 70-200 and 200-600.

Thank you! It's hard to be that gimbal for the money. Make sure to use the coupon code and link in the description for the best deal. :)

Funny I'm working on a video with the Sony a6700 with the 200-600 and the 1.4x TC. It's a pretty darn good combo. I love your Pelican shots great work! Thanks so much for sharing.

@@PhilThach thanks Phil. I love it for both my a7iv and my a6700. It's not great on my a7riv but it's not terrible either. I did finally find the Canon 200-800 in of all places Best Buy but I still have to wait until mid next month. Can't wait to get that one finally.

I think it’s worth noting the crop factor. With the 200-600 you’re really shooting 300-900. Many of these shots are 900mm and with the 1.4x TC they’re 1260mm vs the listed 840mm.

There are some KZbinrs who list the full frame equivalent field of view instead of the actual focal length. I believe this is not the best way to do it. I use the ACTUAL focal length as listed in the EXIF data. The viewer can do the math to see how many mm would be required to get this field of view on a full-frame camera. I always assume my viewer is as smart as you are and knows that the a6700 has a 1.5x crop sensor.

I have been trying to get shots of the pelicans. Last year I got one shot as they were flying by. Were you there early in the morning or was it late in the evening. I've taken some amazing shots of Sandhill Cranes but really would love to get some pictures of the Pelicans.
@PhilThach10 ай бұрын
I almost always go very early in the morning unless it's 100% overcast when I might go a little later in the day. I rarely go at sunset. Nothing wrong with going at sunset, it just doesn't work as well with my personal schedule.

Phil, when do the Sandhill cranes leave the area. Might make a drive from SC
@PhilThach10 ай бұрын
They should be around through the end of January. The Sandhill Crane Festival is January 13 & 14 which is nice but too crowded for photography. maps.app.goo.gl/7FJVAkfDEfVYKcsb9 This should take you right to the observation Platform where the photography is done.

Wow! Love the shots of the Sandhill Cranes at the west side of Blythe Ferry. I went to the refuge yesterday. The light was terrible and I struggled with getting the cranes in focus during flight. I think there wasn't enough contrast between the sky and the cranes for the autofocus to pickup on. 🤷♂ I did take a lot of photos. If any turn out I'll post them on my instagram. I did see 2 Eagles on the west side of Blythe Ferry but very small in the frame.

Thank you! I heard from Dan who was there yesterday. He had similar comments about the light. I'll keep my eye out for new additions to your Instagram feed.
