MDR-XB950N1 or the mdr-1000x? Which one is better for planes when you need noise cancellation?
@BTaesthetics
@BTaesthetics 7 жыл бұрын
Hey great question! Sound wise the XB950N1s sound better than the mdr-1000x. The mdr-1000x's on the other hand have more features and slightly better noise cancellation options. I feel like the XB950N1s are a better blend of sound quality and noise cancellation at a lower price.. While the mdr-1000x are great if you want maximum control over your noise cancellation (ex. the option to just cancel out people's voices and let other sounds come in). If i had to choose I would go with the XB950N1s they do noise cancellation just fine w/better sound quality than the mdr-1000x. Hope this helps!

Test them out at your local BestBuy. I tested both and the 1000x have far superior NC and are dead silent in a very noisy and busy BestBuy. It’s like you have earplugs on and have gone deaf lol. It’s a really weird feeling. Also, tap on the side of the headphones, and it lets you hear your surroundings. The N1’s have decent NC, but still let in a little bit of noise, and don’t have that feature that lets you hear your surroundings.

another great review! I just worked out using my Bose QC 35's and I put up 1/5 of what he does in the weight room - bummer. I might have to check these out after your review- I didn't know they were that competitive to Bose. Sony use to be the bomb growing up. How does the Bose connect app doenst really have that many features, looks like Sony is a little more innovative on that front for sure.

Just picked these up at BestBuy for $179.00 and reluctantly to be honest.Having had 3 pairs of the recent 950 BTs hinges break I immediately felt the need to hold on tight as they can be one drop stops.Sony needs to address this issue with so many running into it.That being said they have most definitely fixed the bass overwhelming the.mids and highs and I for one am.very happy with the sound quality improvements.The app could be more useful as an actual eq and the presets are a joke to be honest.If they fix these issues they will restore my faith in their products having been a lifetime user of Sony headphones and portable products.I do love the sound of these headphones and these are my introduction into noise cancelling.

Hope this helps!

How would you compare the MDR-XB950N1 to the MDR-100ABN in terms of noise cancellation, sound signature and comfort?
@BTaesthetics
@BTaesthetics 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean! Thanks for watching! The one thing i like about these is how loud they get. The MDR-100ABNs don't get loud enough in my opinion and the noise cancellation isn't as good as the XB950N1s. Also too I felt like the clarity on the MDR-100ABNs to be dissapointing as well as a lack of bass as confirmed by others on my review video of them. They didn't sound like they should for the price that they are. With the MDR-XB950N1 I feel like they fixed all of that.. They sound great with all genres of music and you now have the ability to control how much of the extra bass.. so I can't recommend these enough. What kind of music do you listen to?
@seanasta
@seanasta 7 жыл бұрын
BTunPlugged thank you. You've actually been such a great help. I've been trying to get a proper comparison between the two for a while now. Any stores I've been to that sell headphones don't seem to have the new N1 out for testing just yet and I could only compare the MDR-1000X to the MDR-100ABN. I did prefer the H.ear to the 1000X but it was the N1 I was originally interested in. The majority of music I listen to is reliant on bass so hip-hop, pop, some EDM. At the same time I produce but I'm looking to get a separate set of headphones as well as reference monitors for that specific task. I'd use the N1's for leisure listening. What music do you listen to? I've always been curious as to what reviewers consider the ideal sound
@BTaesthetics
@BTaesthetics 7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the MDR-XB950N1s are the ones for you but it all comes down to personal preference. Me personallyI listen to everything. Drake/Future/Chainsmokers/odesza are some of my favorites. When I review headphones I like to listen to songs with vocals in it like hip-hop, RnB, Pop, EDM, Rock. That's the easiest way to tell the quality differences between headphones in my opinion. We can instantly tell whether a voice is clear or not like speaking with someone with bad reception or good reception. After I go through those genres I listen to acoustic versions of songs and cinematic music like the Dark Knight Rises Soundtrack. Let me know which ones you end up going with!

For those wondering. Tried the Skullcandy Crusher wireless and these. No comparison. The Sony has much better sound quality w/the highs, mids, and bass. The bass in the Skullcandy Crushers hits hard, but the clarity sounds chincy/cheap by comparison to the Sony headphones.

Have used Beats solos and studios for many years. The Sony N1 have better sound quality and cleaner deeper bass you can hear and feel. Once you get past how big they are, you will appreciate that they are more comfortable as well.

Hi I subscribed to your page due to the time and effort you put into it the fact there was a couple of technical mistakes did not take away from the effort you put in so keep up the good work . and if you have not yet at some point get yourself a very good preamp and Amplifier along with decent source equipment because even though I enjoy most of my Headphones there is no comparison to a well matched home system made up of quality gear . I am forced to use Headphones because my genre of music would give my wife nightmares lol but there is no comparison to a computer with decent monitors to a well laid out high end system but if you like it loud as I do and are not a home owner evictions are a possibility lol my Bedroom system is 2800 watts and that does not count the 2700 watt subwoofer ,but man does it sound good. keep up the good work and making more innovative videos

Bought these headphones and have been using them for about 3 months. I am disappointed with the perfoemance of these headphones. The major reason is the huge lack of vocals. You do not hear the vocals because of the deep bass that the headphones generate. So, if you love trance music along with other edm genres, you better look for something else. Even rap and r&b suck because of the basses killing and supressing vocals. Another con is the size of the headphones. If you sit in your seat while travelling, the size of the headphones will not enable you to position your head in a comfortable way. You will most probably get angry. The constant noisy sound you hear while you are not listening to anything in bluetooth connected mode is another huge con. Noise cancellation is very bad. Philips headphones which are sold to half price of these headphones perform much better. If you really want these headphones, go for the ones without NC for saving money. If you like to listen to the musich with high volume, these headphones are not suitable for your. You do not get the bass and sound quality until the volume level is %60. Once your are at %70, they mutate and act like SPEAKERS! There is no way to use them in a quite environment. The only thing that I liked is the battery life. It is like something that does not end... I was considering Audio Technica Msr-7 headphones before buying these. However, as I had doubts about the bass performance of the Msr-7 headphones, I boght the Sony headphones. Last month, I had the chance to try Msr-7. They are perfect for vocals but had NO BASS. I believe that child of Msr-7 and xb950 would be the best option for edm adicts. If you guys know such headphones, please let me know...

Wow. You must have gotten a defective unit. The n1’s I have are amazing. The ANC is decent for the price, and with music I cannot hear anyone unless they are SCREAMING in my ear. The sound leakage is very impressive too. I took my headphones, and put them on the table, earpads down, and I could not hear it unless I really tried. I did get the Best Buy exclusive titanium color though so that might have affected my results. When I’m listening with ANC on in the car, there is no road noise. Vocals are clear unless there is an overwhelming amount of bass in the song, and the highs are pleasant and don’t hurt at high volumes. I have the bass boost on, Bass Booster EQ in Apple Music, and Arena VPT profile on (which boosts bass a lot, surprisingly). The bass is amazing! Try a replacement.

First off the Quietcomfort 25s are exactly the same as the 35s noise cancelation system just one has Bluetooth and sorry the Bose system is still much more advanced than anything on the market so far what is tricking you is the Sony's even in their BT configuration were great at noise isolation due to large padded ear pads and closed back so that added with a moderately well done noise cancelation system will make it seem to be doing a better job , However try them both on a plane with no music on just running the noise cancelation and then you will see ,and I'm not a Bose fanboy and actually hate most of their speakers. Oh and the Bose at least since the 15 has always had external microphones and was absolutely active noise cancellation . the reason I use the Quietcomfort 25 over the 35 is the ability to direct connect to my high end Dac/Amp which sounds worlds better than the cheap amp in the Bluetooth headphones but that being said when I want a lot of bass I grab my BT version of these headphones because the B1 And N1 allowed you to turn the Bass down which is not what I bought these for I bought them for maximum Bass and it delivers that in spades . plus put a couple of AAA batteries in my Headphone case and then I could listen for a week without the bother of recharging ,not trying to knock you in any way your video was entertaining and well done just not accurate on a couple of points .

So I do know good sound and those Sony cannot hang with what I mentioned.by the way my squeeze is one 10 is a in ear and it will beat any on or over ear headphone price 300 to 700 easily..

these are not serious headphones... these are toys and not worth the asking price for what they are selling. The sound signature is inaccurate and over amplified, so your not really hearing the track the way it was produced. Now if your looking for a fun headphone but don't take sound quality serious then these are for you... but make no mistake these type of headphones are not worth 250.00. You pay 250.00 plus for accurate sound not over amplified synthetic sound. No one should ever pay more than 99.00 for this type of headphone.... they are toys not real headphones.

I assure you that no serious basshead would pay for your so called "serious" headphones my dear hi-fi flathead. These are marketed as eXtra Bass headphones with bluetooth connectivity, NFC, decent ANC, 22 hours of battery life and nice build quality. A run-of-the-mill audio circuitry in any smartphone/audio player is more than enough to drive these cans. I'd say they are worth 250$ if you're a basshead. I'm guessing you're one of those obnoxious "audiophile" trolls. Need I inform you that "audiophile" in the sense of its root words means lover of audio/music/sound and this is inclusive of those that adore certain overamplified sound signatures. Take bassheads for instance. There is no denying the awesomeness of hi-fi sound but a bass addict like myself couldn't care less for a pair of "accurate" cans with "lacklustre" bass. I want thick thumping bass coupled with clearly presented mids and highs and a decent soundstage. These "toys" have that.

Stego Saurus Yeah that's what I thought. Some people want more bass but you dont want too much bass like the beats. I saw comparisons and it seems like the mdr 1000x has overall sound....

Correct, the V-Moda crossfade wireless have better sound than the Sony 1000's and they are cheaper and come with a lifetime trade-in program. I have them and I love the sound. They have bass but realistic bass. I'm not trashing the 950' bit just realize it's just a fun headphone to listen to but the sound is totally inaccurate and you don't pay more than 100.00 for toys like those...199.00 to 250.00 is a rip off
