I think the modular disc drive is actually sweet even though it’s ugly. How many PS3s/4s and inevitably PS5s were essentially bricks once the drives died? Presuming they keep making them, repair options are much nicer now.

I get handy people are more than willing to try, but Bluray replacement on PS3 isn't as easy as click clack done, now is it? I turned a Yellow LED of Death into a dead unit just by attempting to clean the heatsink and re-apply paste. Any strides towards ease of repair are welcome imo.

Yea my disc reader drive died on my ps4. And the 5’s still have that issue as well. So thats why i switched to digital. Just more practical and hella deals on games. Though i find it unacceptable that modern hardware still has reading issues

​@@Dev_A_StationI've never had a console that stopped reading discs. With one exception. My first Xbox 360. It didn't stop completely. It just took it forever to read discs and it would need to be ejected and reinserted a number of times before it finally read it. It was annoying but then it got the RROD and I had to replace it. The Xbox 360 was a huge disaster all around. It took MS like 3 or 4 years to fix the fatal flaw.

A PS5 Pro is a terrible idea! We only had the PS4 Pro because the original PS4 was quite mainstream even in 2013. Yet, many games still look fantastic on it. More hardware, more pain in the a** for developer.

I waited for a slim release. I was thinking “oh it’ll be way less ugly and maybe even be a black model hopefully” but nah. They literally just chopped the disc drive off and re released the same damn model. Im gonna be honest, i think the ps5 has been the worst console launch for sony so far. The most minimal effort put into this console generation. And objectively the ugliest playstation ever released. But i will say, i am pro digital. I used to not but when i found out the ps4 and 5 still have disc drive issues, i switched to digital bc its more practical and also the sales are really dumb for digital games.

Sony charging more for the slim even without the disc is shameless. A slim version is supposed to be cheaper and more efficient particularly it doesn’t come with the disc drive which is sold separately.

If you go for the new digital, you're paying $50 to store one more game, and an additional 30 if you want/need the stand. A lot of people are looking for a cheaper version, cause they can't afford the regular price. A slim is supposed to allow people of lower income, and people who just don't want to pay the higher price, the ability to jump in. Since these companies make the most money from the games sold, not the consoles. They want more people into their ecosystem. This doesn't do anything to sell the PS5 to those on a budget, or just don't see the value. 200 GB? Most people with space issues, will just spend the money and get a 2TB SSD. They're not gone to buy a 450$ console. So, that leaves you the people who don't own a PS5. And if they weren't jumping in at 400-500 *They won't jump in at 450-500 for freaking 200GB!* We're not in 2006 anymore.

@SakuraAvalon Slim models are not made to be budget systems. They're made because they've found ways to make their console just as efficient with newer tech and smaller components. That is what allows them to have the price be cheaper. The PS5 is already $500 and you're talking about no one is going to buy one at $450 lmao. The console continues selling out, breaking records, over 40 million sold at this point. You saying no one will but it shows that you aren't paying attention.

Why is the stand so controversial now? Ps2, ps3 and ps4 were marketed as vertical. They sold stands separately, yet there was no issue then. Is it because Sony included the one before? Also new stand is compatible with older ps5s. So the stand which looks nicer is backwards compatible. Also you don't absolutely need the stand for vertical. Ps5 will stand vertical just fine without it. So this just comes off as manufactured hate.

I was looking forward to a smaller PS5 as the current one JUST fits inside my entertainment unit standing up. However this is objectively a ugly mofo. I got used to the 90's star trek asthetics of the current one, but the new look of the disk drive does appear like it's a cheap add-on by mad-catz. Plus the beltline looks really weird. And a soulless Cordon hosting an interview session is the icing on top of how soulless this acquisition is.

You are putting un even stress on the APU. I've seen lots and lots of cases where the liquid metal is not spreading to the top of the chip because of simple gravity. In the long run, your ps5 will get damaged.
