Hey lachlan I got these headphones, I applied a treble booster and the sound became really awesome!!!

i love the aesthetic of your videos. fantastic quality and color grading. would love to see a future set up tour, particularly those monitors and that music app you're running. i would also like your opinion on the Sony MDR-ZX700. you seem to appreciate Sony's audio (and camera) products, and i can't say i blame you :)

I like the new design and sony have used this for several of their headphones; these sound like a bassheads delight. I like a general all around high quality sound. I have the MDR-X10's which are very comfortable and lightweight. Great review!

Great job at describing the sound. That's actually a very difficult task to do. You managed to do it well. I'm using some MDR-XB300's that I bought when they were first released. I figured it was time for an upgrade and this helped me decide these aren't for me, since I'm not a fan of muddy sounding headphones lacking in the treble department.

I've had these headphones for 3yrs almost I've chucked them everywhere nothing has broken, the base is clean and not overpowering at all, I know because there my main pair the clarity is great only downfall is the amount of treble otherwise it is an amazing pair of headphones

i forgot to mention that both were considered fairly neutral (rare for cheap/ cheaper headphones) Id love to hear your thoughts! I'm already debating on dropping the cash for the hifiman re400s, after watching your review and many other comments on head fi

Thanks a bunch :) I ended up trying out the HE-400s and really liked them. So now I'm trying to decide between them and the LCD-2

Great review Lachlan but we are just so different when it comes to headphone sound quality. I love BASS so I will be getting these. Just to let you know how much of a bass head I am, I own 4 headphones. The Beats By Dre Wireless, V Moda Crossfade LPs, Logitech UE 9000s, & the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros. All 4 cans are extremely bassy, the Dre Wireless being having the most bass. But I don't just stop there, I also have the Fiio e11 headphone amp to go along with these cans and man! Talk about Bass Lachlan! It's like having two 12" subs on your ears! Sounds just like my car... Try it out Lachlan... Fiio e11 with any bass heavy can and see what you think...

thanks for taking the time to reply! i understand, its no problem! i just noticed most of your videos are on gear thats about $150 plus! some "bang for buck" i think would be great to have! especially for someone on a student's budget like myself! =)

I never warmed up to the new XB line style. I loved the older line 300/500/700/1000 since they had a distinctive style. These look plain imho.

So from about 5+ hours of some Google research and lurking on some audio sites, I don't think the Sony mdr-xb800's are the same as the mdr-xb900's. This is a great review... of the XB800's. Aesthetically, the 800's have a gloss finish on the cups where the 900's have a brushed finish to them. Also, the 900's, unfortunately, are not sold in the US, or UK I believe. Again, awesome review lachlan!
@lachlanlikesathing11 жыл бұрын
This is definitely the XB900, it said so on the box of my pair! But yes I have heard there are differences between the XB800 and XB900, I have no idea if they were simply cosmetic though. It may be they simply had different designs for different regions and maybe even what was called an XB800 in one region is an XB900 in the other... really not sure -___-
@chunnchilla11 жыл бұрын
Can't refute that; internet lurking definitely doesn't compare to an actual product "in-hand" lol. It's all just speculation on my end, but another difference I noticed was of this "Advanced Direct Vibe Structure" mentioned on Sony.Asia's site w/ the XB900's where as the XB800's in US had no special feature. Is this a game changer? No idea, but yes like the region specifics and cosmetics for now, it's all hearsay.
@lachlanlikesathing11 жыл бұрын
Haha I wish I knew really. In Australia it was advertised as XB900 with advanced direct vibe structure. www.sony.com.au/product/mdr-xb900/sku/mdr-xb900_c+e Honestly it seems a mystery, though not of much consequence since they are discontinued now...

well that was all nice but what i hate about audio reviewers is they basically tell me any headphone i like sucks and then they dont tell me what else to get i love the design for this , my budget is up to 200$ i like to listen to all kinds of music , and i will use it alot for watching tv shows but its most important to me that the headphones look amazing cause im all about fashion and im always out also id wear it for a long time so it must be comfortable , dont need sound isolation

im looking at buying some good bass headphones to compliment my Fiio E11 headphone amp (which is amazing by the way) (and cheap $65 off ebay) ive tested the sony MDR MA500 and they were (meh) i tested the amp with Sennheiser HD380 PRO and it blew my mind!!! ive never heard a headphone that could reproduce so clear, crisp and powerful as well as amazing bass. id really like if you could do a review on the HD380? might be more what your looking for? and the Fiio E11 is a must have for clear sound.

I'm thinking about saving a lot to get some LCD-2s. I currently have HD600s with a Schiit Asgard 2 amp. Do you think the LCD-2s will compliment my HD600s well (I'm looking for more darkness and bass)?
@verybang11 жыл бұрын
Having owned both, if you're a basshead, you'd be glad you got the XB800. It blows the XB600 away
@robbie20sa11 жыл бұрын
as far as i know from looking at the stats 600 = 40mm driver 800/900 = 50mm driver and i think the xb 400 is a 30mm driver. also in ear xb90 is a 16mm in ear driver.

hi laclan! i really appreciate you sharing your insight on audio gear on your channel! i'm subscribed!! i was wondering if you would review the "noontec zoros ($63 USD)" or the "monoprice 8320 ($7.11)" they are highly regarded on head-fi as good "bang for buck" audio gear! tyll from innerfidelity gave a glowing review on the noontecs (ljokerl gave a great recommendation on the 8320s too! hope to hear from you soon

slimdunkin117 i went from xb700 to xb910 and its like there wasnt bass at all in xb700..but there is the same rattling/vibrating/broken_speaker_sound so they suck, dont buy them. these are painful to wear for more than 5 minutes and they are falling apart after a year

Hahahaha for music production he asks whaha xD... I own the XB910 and I love it's sound. Punchy bass is perfect for beatmatching and the isolation this thing offers is unheard of, but the audiophile would reject this thing as garbage.

Then again audiophiles themselves are garbage. I say buy these.

William Dawson Basically same headphones.. The XB800 came after the Simon Cowells so it might be safe to say they just re-painted them and re-package them and sold it as XB800 when they Discontinued the X10s.
@williamdawson994210 жыл бұрын
not exactly the x10s have less bass punch
@skirmich10 жыл бұрын
William Dawson But they have better Highs and Mids.. Also the amount of Bass they carry is already stupid if you compare them to the lesser XB400 or XB500 so a little less might be whats helping to get better Highs and Mids vs the XB800.

@shayson13578 жыл бұрын
+georgyorgy2 I won't advise doing that, I've had these headphones for several years now.... and am sorry to say this but they are utter crap for the money, they are worth 50-60 dollars max in regards to overall sound quality(and they have bad build quality, too plasticky and squeaks a lot,one of the drivers became loose from it's fixation in the cup and thus vibrates annoyingly when the bass hits hard and the cup hinge also loosens over time and there is no way to tighten it except melting off the plastic on the circular barrel connected to the drivers and inserting heated screw directly into the inside plastic to hold it in place, that is why I still have it for "several years" else I'd have had to throw it in the closet after 6 months".
