This was one of my favorite fight scenes from my childhood, the mud fight totally made it even cooler seeing two women fight while muddy. This fight scene parallels the fight scene between Liu Kang and Reptile in the first film. Sony and Mileena fight while Jax is nowhere to be found. Similar to how Liu Kang and Reptile fought in the first film and Johnny Cage was nowhere to be found.

I agree that there are similarities between the two fights. One comes to my mind in comparing the two is that both fights, the villains Mileena and Reptile were actually giving the main heroes, Sonya and Lui Kang a much tougher fight in comparison to their last boss fight with Noob and Shang Tsung respectively.
