I always say this, but to understand Pearl, one has to convert what happened to "gem time". By this point Pearl is around 10k+ years old, and she was in love with Rose for a chunk and a half of that. Then in the span of less than 30 human years, all the story we know happened, which is hella fast from the perspective of a mind as old as Pearl's. To a human, it's like your life-long crush fell in love, settled down, died to have a child and you ended up taking care of said child, all of that in about a week.

He was already pulling stuff like that in season 1 like in The Test after Garnet said, "We don't know what he needs." But instead of confronting the gems about the test's fakeness he allowed them to feel like they comforted him and not the other way around.

Pearl and Rose's relationship is quite... complicated. Rose totally knew about Pearl's feelings for her. Don't forget they were the first Crystal Gems and Pearl was the one Rose trusted the most. But the thing about Rose is that she loved Earth and everything in it much more, including humans. If you remember "We Need to Talk", Rose said she found humans entertaining. She had relationships with other humans, but she never got quite serious to them. That's why Pearl used to be so snob towards Greg in the past, as she saw him as nothing more but just another human with whom Rose would have fun with. Greg was the one human that gave Rose a brand new perspective of things. And that's another reason for why Pearl didn't like Greg, as he was the one human that managed to take Rose away from her.

I think rose sees pearl's feelings as how a pearl's deep love and dedication have towards their assigned gem, as we see when she was rebooted, and with pearl's insecurities of being just a pearl would never clarify her feelings towards rose, and as rose was a diamond, those feelings of love and dedication is present in almost every gem, so I couldn't fault her on not knowing, this also comes back to how in the past humans probably sees her as this higher beings and have the same kind of love and dedication that gems have towards their diamond that's why it's only been a fling, while with Greg, he's the only one who asked to be respected and be an equal

Another fun fact! In Hit the Diamond, Lapis uses the name Bob because in Ocean Gem Steven says “no prob, Bob” to her and she gets confused thinking its a name/nickname! She references a lot of the stuff that happened in Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem, especially throughout her early episodes. It really shows how close her friendship is with Steven, they really were beach summer fun buddies

"Mr. Greg" is one of the best episodes in the whole season and I will stand on this hill. The musical apporch, the talk between Greg and Pearl, all of it is just perfect. Deedee sang "It's Over Isn't It", so well that they had to redraw the scene because the previous board didnt match, she is incredible.

Mr. Greg is my favorite episode and one of my favorites of any show. I have my mixed-to-negative feelings about how the show ended, but the heart of the show is in music and learning to move on, and at no point does my soul take wing with the show's heart than during that episode. Mr. Greg is my favorite episode in the entire show. Allow me to list off just a few things I love about it -It's a musical episode. They somehow managed to cram 7 songs into an 11-minute episode without it feeling bloated -"It's Over, Isn't It". That song is, in my opinion, the best song to ever come out of Steven Universe. I learned to play the piano accompaniment to the point of memorization, and often play it when I'm bored at the piano (Aivi has posted the sheet music online btw). Deedee's singing is outstanding as well -Pearl and Greg finally talk to each other. For so long she was extremely cold to him, and he didn't deserve it. It took Steven interfering and forcing them to spend time together for the two of them to finally talk and clear the air, finally allowing Pearl to let go of her jealousy -The episode was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Animation in 2017. It ended up losing to an Adventure Time episode that you guys haven't gotten to yet, but that episode deserved the nomination just as much as Mr. Greg so I'm not upset about it

Oh, Mr Greg, Rebecca's favourite episode of the series and my second favourite. Say whatever you want about Pearl but she is and always will be my favourite of the core crystal gems. In the song she says herself that being with Greg was Rose's choice to make and even calls herself petty for harbouring resentment towards him. But just because these feelings are unfair doesn't mean they don't exist. The show handles the topic of unrequited love so masterfully and maturely. I'm also glad that they dodged the obvious cliché of a character coming into money and becoming selfish. Greg says himself that he doesn't need money, he already has a great life and the money's just an extra. And of course Steven acting a mediator and allowing Pearl and his dad to reconcile, you mentioned a while ago that you only had to record the finale so I'm assuming you know what that means for Steven's character development, more specifically his mental health

Though I always liked Pearl, "It's over, Isn't it" is what made me fell in love with her as a character. From a storytelling perspective, Pearl has all the reasons to had been made an antagonist, maybe even a villain. One could imagine that after Rose chose to be with Greg and give up her existence so that Steven would exist would fill her with grief, and the grief could turn into hate: towards Rose for not picking her, towards the other Crystal Gems for not stopping her, towards Greg for taking her away and specially towards Steven for being the reason she's gone. I'd would have been so easy for the writers to make her like that, for her to be an angry, grieving and bitter character... yet she's not. She chose to focus on continuing Rose's legacy of loving and protecting Earth, and to take care of Steven. Despite all the reasons she has to be hateful, she chooses kindness. And that's why I'll always have her as one of my favorite gems in this show.

So when Garnet looks at her and calls her a "clod" with Peri responding "that's my word" it's because it's basically Garnet saying "we love you and we've got your back"

To also put into perspective how Pearl really lost Rose: It’s been said and shown before that Rose has been in love with other humans beyond Greg, but generally, these relationships likely went nowhere because Rose both didn’t really understand a relationship with a human beyond her fascination with them, (basically how Pearl had called Greg a novelty in the fusion episode), and also just the idea that any human she could even have a relationship with, she’d just eventually outlive. It wouldn’t matter if she fell in love with a human because they’d just eventually die, and rather quickly in gem time considering gems don’t seem to see thousands of years as all that long. So for Pearl, it was pretty much major whiplash for Rose to fall in love with a human, actually like him beyond just liking him for being a human, and then subsequently die to have their child. Rose was supposed to just live forever, and the fact that it didn’t end up like that is likely such a jarring experience for Pearl, made even worse that her last living momento of Rose, that being Steven, is not bound to live forever either.

Regarding sadie unlocking the door at the big donut at the end of the second episode, the most logical thing I can think of is that maybe she entered through the back door a couple hours earlier, and then at opening time had to leave through the back and go around to the front to unlock the front door cause for some reason she can't unlock it from the inside? ....no that's stupid. That would be a building safety code violation if there ever was one.

I live in California. Growing up, New Jersey was known to me only through news accounts of riot-torn Newark, crumbling forgotten Atlantic City, Bugs Bunny's "Hoboken?? OOOO I'M DYING!!!!", Mafia movie references to guys who couldn't make it in the Big Apple but only in New Jersey, Mad Magazine references to tacky normie suburbs. It wasn't until high school that I learned that New Jersey has a lot of green nature outside of the NYC region and the Jersey Shore.
