For me, this channel just hits the sweet spot. On one hand they are all funny and still authentic enough to be believable as just a bunch of mates cooking together. And it is quite obvious that each of them brings his own personality, humour, knowledge and experiences. The content is also quite broad. There is very practical or (for lack of a better word) basic recipes and techniques that I might very well apply in my own kitchen, there are always very new and interesting concepts (budget challenges, the famous pass it on and such), ethnic recipes or cooking styles that I‘m not familiar with (because they are not commonplace where I live), and all topped with a huge laugh when you least expect it.

In Canadian hockey there's a thing called a "make up call" - when the referees get something wrong - so they look for an excuse to penalise the other team to make things right. Giving this one to Jamie feels like a makeup call for how he got boned on the ten quid battle.

They filmed this ahead of posting that one and the outrage that followed. But yeah, giving it to Jamie could be a 'cop-out' for all the recent battles that Jamie's lost, including the ones with only Barry. James preferred his flavours, though, clearly. PS. But James' 'more ambitious' justification was bull, to be honest - they both were quite common interpretations from around the world, and using a rotisserie was not 'ambitious' for a kebab. I got SO happy when I saw Jamie stacking up the lamb with the apple on top. I know different cultures have similar dishes, but here in Mexico that's pretty much how we prepare trompo/al pastor tacos (with the exception being a pineapple instead of the apple and onions in between layers of meat, and you can add pork too). For the "spiciness" missing you might want to consider something citrusy instead (like orange/lime juice) to bring out all the flavors without the meat becoming to hot. Overall I think this was (accidentally) a great fusion dish, since in my state we use (very well cooked not only heated on one side) flour tortilla to eat it with, and it's most people's favorite. Tried to read most of the comments to make sure I'm not being repetitive, sorry if someone already said this and I didn't notice. I've been following you guys for so many years but just now worked up the courage to write down a comment, hope I would had answered right away.

you should try Fårikål. its a lamb dish that has been the national dish of norway since the 70s. Super simple. Chunks of lamb with bones and cabbage layered in a huge pot, sprinkle some salt, whole pepper and a tiny bit of flour between the layers. Fill up with water and simmer for 2-2,5 hours with a lid on. Serve with boiled potatos.

Just forwarded this to my “twin brother from another mother.” We were both raised in Massachusetts therefore we both grew up eating lamb. There is no mint jelly on either Mike or Spaf’s tables, but both dishes look amazing. Yum!

I feel like kofta are more of a family dinner. Everyone gets to pick what they like, in the proportions they like, so it's easier to please a crowd. The doner is more of a meal prep day treat where you're making yourself fries since the oven's already hot and you don't have to share.

I love that those kebab grills were not at all what they ever expected. It is way more useful than they thought it would be.

@@Why-zl4mf After some quick googling, I found out that not all kebab is shawarma, but shawarma is a type of döner kebab, apparently. Here's an article on it. note point 5 and 6 especially: recipes.timesofindia.com/articles/features/whats-the-difference-between-kebab-and-shawarma/photostory/63530670.cms?picid=63530681

Jamie deserved the win. No doubt. As an Egyptian I can say that we do lamb ribs (like spareribs) we boil them and marinate, then grill them. So delicious!

I swear, James has some kind of thing for Jamie. 🤣 99% of the comp videos I’ve watched, Jamie has won and James has decided quite a few of them. Do a blind taste test! Or more Mike vs Barry!

Jamie needed this win after how his other battles were treated. I'm also fine with him winning after Mike Donated him time because if you think about all the time Jamie used to stand around and explain what he was doing (nonactive time?) then it probably would have evened out.

I love that Jamie is making a different version of a Pita that I can buy in my neighbourhood - pita bread and on this sauce, meat (or cheese) and chips on top, all slightly rolled together :D

While not a bad topic, and a lovely „battle“, I always thought of „kebab“ as a summer food, soup season has started and I really need some new ideas beside, chicken or pumpkin or lentils or tomato....

While I thought both looked awesome, I thought Mike had a more balanced meal and, while not ambitious, it was still gutsy to do something in the more traditional way.

Great video as always, my favourite use of lamb is a lamb mince spagbol, the lamb has a really nice oilyness that leaves a great feel in your mouth.
