I think I've noticed why I like these '20 minute challenge' videos so much. Because they boil things down to their core, as done with the normals here. Each normal more or less has a theme that goes with their dishes that perfectly fits them. Barry is Quality, giving you a classy dish made in only 20 minutes. Jamie is Quantity, giving you as much food as he can make in 20 minutes. Mike is Technique, using various tricks to make food that you wouldn't think could be done in 20 minutes. It reflects how they are in other challenges. Barry makes his food to seem upscale. Jamie makes goes all in on the food giving you the most bang for your buck. And Mike, he shows off his skill in what he can do with what he's given.

This challenge was honestly so cruel because the normals never work at pace and typically spend most of their time flapping and stressing so giving them a limited timeframe to outperform their competitors is much more of a challenge than the video can ever do justice

Idea for a curveball: each of the competitors has a cooking utensil (knife, ladel, fork, etc.) stripped from them for the rest of the task. Either the judges or the other competitors can choose which utensil it is based on the dish they're making

Oh, a great way to do it is that they are told they are choosing for the next chef clockwise, and they have 5 minutes to choose, but once the 5 minutes are up and they state their choice, it's revealed they were actually choosing for themselves. 20 minutes!.... .......if you've pre -weighed all the ingredients and have all the right equipment including a freezer you can put warm items into without worrying about it defrosting, and a fancy food processor.

It's battles like this that show just how far along the 'Normals' have come since the channel started. Before I retired from professional cheffing, I would have been proud to have any of the three of them working in my kitchen. I was super impressed with all three of them! Barry, especially, impressed the hell out of me. He always tends to go for out there, pretentious, crazy stuff, and half the time in these battles it bites him on the ass. This time he settled down and made a fantastic pasta dish that could have easily graced any restaurant menu. It wasn't crazy 'out there', just good, solid food with what looked like amazing flavors. And, can we talk about that bread? Homemade garlic flatbread with *pancetta* in under 20 minutes. Kudos mate!! I'm looking forward to making this for the spousal unit this weekend. Mike's dish was amazing! I know he was using the pressure cooker, but I also know just how damn difficult it is to pull off BBQ ribs in under 20 minutes. Combined with a jacket potato with all that cheesy goodness and the quick pickle...Super impressed!! And finally, Jamie! Just from a visual standpoint, I pegged him as the winner. It was definitely the sexiest of the three. Knowing what pretty much all those flavors will taste like when done right, my mouth was watering from the get go. I'm going to have to hit my local butchers and pick up a couple chops, and this is going to be a date nite dinner, for sure! Bravo! You totally deserved the win Jamie. *EDIT: *Just one thing though...NEVER EVER EVER EVER(!!!!) cut corn off the cob in a bowl again! You almost gave me a heart attack, and chefs far and wide (myself included) were screaming at you through their monitor!! You could have lost a thumb dude! Seriously! This was a FANTASTIC battle!! Well done guys!
