The ground has thin layers of mana for plant and crop growth. Tau turn into Trombas by absorbing that mana for long periods of time unnoticed, think months or years. Also the court yard had grass before the star bind ceremony and had no grass after, that was a clear give away not just the one messed up coblestone they show in the anime.

The Star binding ceremony is just a marriage ceremony. For commoners the hold it during the day and the nobility hold theirs during the night time.

Some more info and some spoiler stuff about the Star Binding . . . . . . . . . . Originally, the ceremony was held at night for both commoners and nobles, but as the population grew, it became divided with commoners during the daytime and nobles at night. According to old religious texts, the ceremony was simply supposed to be held under the night's sky as to gain the God of Darkness's blessing; throw that into the back of your minds for a long while, there's some fun consequences implied by the text we won't see for like another 20 volumes. After the readings from the scriptures, couples would sign a magic contract reflecting their new union -- the reason for this is because the current subordinate goddess that oversees unions serves under the Goddess of Light (she oversees all magical contracts made in this world, so when Myne has been agreeing to all these magic contracts, she's essentially pledging an oath to the Goddess of Light to uphold it). At the conclusion of the commoner ceremony, it would be the duty of the new husbands to shield their bride from the taues being thrown by jealous individuals that weren't lucky to secure a spouse all the way from the temple to their new home. Children end up having their own little fun by having a water balloon fight with taues -- as Myne puts it, tuaes are basically nature's water balloon as they're almost entirely water inside.

There's a bit more detail in the book about the Tau and Trambe. It's also described a bit differently... The Tau pulls Mana out of her and heats up in her hand and will explode there if she doesn't throw it away. When it explodes it sends seeds all over the place. The seeds take root and quickly grown in dirt... But the seeds that landed on the paving stones dry up and turn to dust. Throwing the Tau at couples... More specifically it's single people throwing Tau's at couples that just got married in a group marriage ceremony. After that it devolves into just a water balloon fight. Inadvertently this tradition sees large amounts of people ridding the forest of Tau and bursting them all over the city streets as they throw them at couples trying to get home after just getting married. This reduces the chance of Trambe growing near the city. I've wondered how this tradition got started... whether anyone way back when... knew what Tau were and started this because of it... or if it's just something that happened coincidentally.

The anime did a poor job on illustrating how the paving stones got moved. When Myne threw the first tau fruit she did not throw it to far, some of the seeds landed on the paving stones, which means that some of the plants sprouted right beside the stone pavers moving them as the plant grew.

@@alsinakiria -- Not Really a spoiler. Info based off of Q and A's with author, not found in books, but does answer who the narc was. -- It was the damage to the paving stones that brought further attention from the Archduke( lord of the land and the city) towards Myne and caused him to ask Head Priest about the growing plant that damaged the paving stones, Myne, and the orphans. Wont go into how Archduke knew but he did. Technically the Archduke could have had Myne executed for damaging the white building, but he let it go.

From my knowledge of English, "bounding" is a synonym for creating a relationship such as marriage. And Fran, if you've forgotten, is Ferdinand's spy.

The after credit scene is a short form of what was explained in the books. If nobility learned that Trombe comes from Tau Fruit, nobility would promptly start cutting down every tree that bears Tau fruit in order to prevent Trimbe from ever appearing again. Bennou reminds Myne to not tell anyone because it would ruin the holiday everyone looks forward to every year.

Considering how dangerous trombe is I don’t think throwing water balloons once a year worth it, so i don’t think he meant it that way. And it was a long time ago, but as i remember in novel he was against telling it because tau fruits absorb mana the same way as a magic item and could be used for devouring, but it potentially could threaten nobles monopoly on magic, so he was afraid they would eliminate anyone with this knowledge.

Даже если кто то в городе с проживанием дотронуться до Тао, то а) у него не хватит манны для превращения его в тромбэ; б) без земли на обычной плитке он быстро высохнет. Думаю вся эта традиция зародилась из того, что люди знали связь Тао и тромбэ, и Тао нужно было привентивно уничтожить. На что б было веселее приурочили это дело к празднику

For this ceremony, the civilians will automatically collect all the Tau they can find and destory them by throwing, 100% environmental friendly and harmless for the town. This will greatly decrease the number of Tromble hidding in the forest and lower the chance of Tromble accident. Civilians don't have the mana to make Tau grow and the Devouring with that much mana usually don't have the healthy body to go out and play anyways.

I assume the punishment was not only because she didn't keep her word (the place was noticeably not left in the same state), but she kept lying when cornered (pretending they did nothing more when they intentionally cut additional trombe). Main is too unpredictable, so the Head Priest wants her to be transparent and honest with him. It probably doesn't matter what she did, just the fact she's lying is enough of a problem. I think he's a fair judge, as he gave her an opportunity to prove herself worthy of his trust, and she failed. Though if he did set people to spy on her instead of taking her word, you could say we have a case of the pot calling the kettle black when it comes to dishonesty. EDIT: Please don't reply with book spoilers without warning. I get notifications for replies, and not all books have been translated to my first language yet.

The head priest though Fran was objecting Myne was the first ever blue robes apprentice Given that punishment (the repentance room is normally only used grey robes) and not that Fran was objecting about room was bad for health. Blue robes apprentice are normally punished privately in their own chambers.

​@MedusaLegend the tiles are made with magic. They shouldn't be able to be moved or damaged like that. If you've read the Hasse incident them you might remember what damaging an Ivory building means. The Lord got the same sensation, but when he looked in the water mirror it was already over. All he could see were children playing. Not to mention that there is something very specific under those paving stones in the temple that... well it being damaged is a problem.

One of the things that i find a bit oddly animated in this episode is thee size of the kids at around 5:00, Myne is supposed to be really small for her age, and here we have kids a fair deal shorter than her... Then again they have been given minimum food, It's just a bit ruff when compared to Myne theey're probably like 2-3 years old which is hard to believe would be of any use in the forest 4-5 years old sure but they seem way to small for that.(granted this one should be on the animators)

The 2-3 year olds likely all died. Myne is small for her age, but kids living in a basement on the edge of starvation aren't going to be big either.

Pretty sure the books just said that place had been messed up. Think the anime did a bad job of showing things had been "messed up" like oh no 1 single tile is out of place.... yeah um anime what? SO Im pretty sure this ep was a "lost in translation" type deal, the translation from the books into anime.

Nobles are taught to control their mana (and have all the devices to make it easier), while commoners with the devouring aren't, and that's why their bodies are desperately trying to unleash the excess of mana every way possible

It is not outright confirmed but heavily implied that the tradition of taue-throwing was once implemented by nobles to regulate the number of trombe sprouting. Imagine how many of those parasitic trees would grow if they wouldn't destroy a city's worth of taue once a year before harvest season.

Handling ingredients is a huge deal in the story later on. Tau isn't something Nobles normally have access to, however they handle other much more dangerous ingredients. Including deadly puffer fish. The Tau Fruit's properties become an important deal a bit later on. I don't know if the anime covers, but the LN certainly does. Sadly, the Tau Fruit doesn't become a free and easy way to save Devourer kids.Becauase they're often enslaved by stronger nobles.
