On the bright side - now you'll understand the plethora of Edgerunners memes. Sure, 95% of them are the same, but it's a damn fine meme. What's sad is that Lucy and David could have avoided a lot of this if they had just *really* trusted and confided in each other earlier. Lucy listening to David and not needing to erase all traces of what was connected to him, and David not having to keep pushing to "protect" Lucy. They could have just decided, "Hey, let's just drop it. It's Night City. We can just fade into the background." But they both let their ideas of obligation destroy them. There's also something of the false narrative of "cyberpsychosis" too. Lucy brings him out of it INSTANTLY. Just with a kiss. Pondsmith (the creator of the game/series) has alluded to cyberpsychosis not being what they say it is. It's not "omg there's just too much tech and it makes you crazy." Cyberpsychosis is just psychosis. It's any of the variety of mental health issues that can drive someone to that point. And it's treatable just like any other mental health issue. But BECAUSE THIS IS NIGHT CITY, it would be more costly to treat someone's mental issues, so they just let these people die or kill others on the way out. Sacrificing blood for money. PEAK Cyberpunk. (The tech does play a part, but only in as much as having a foreign object/objects in your body would normally traumatize you. That's why different people have different "tolerances." It's psychological.) It's also evidenced in the game, by the statement that MAX TAC soldiers are all former "cyberpsychos." Meaning that they KNOW, 100%, that it's not something you just can't come back from. It's treatable. But they lie to people because it's just cheaper to do that. If they need to treat someone so they can get a soldier out of it, they'll do that, because in the end they profit from that.

Kiwi's betrayal makes perfect sense. Maine went psycho, wounded Kiwi and was responsible for his death and Dorio's. She sees David taking the exact same path. Of course she's going to accept Faraday's proposition to leave the crew before David goes insane and kills everyone. I don't think she new Lucy was the target. The supreme irony of the show is the tittle of this episode "my moon my man". Lucy's dream isn't the Moon anymore, it's being with David. She will do anything to protect her dream. David thinks she still dreams about the Moon and will do anything to get the money for the trip. They both destroyed their dream by keeping secrets. David accomplished the dreams he thinks his mom and Maine had for him : get to the top of Arisaka tower, showing the corpos his worth and go further than Maine did. But both his mom and Maine would disagree on how he did it.

He didn't know his own worth I think...but it makes sense - he was a "normal" punk kid that in an instant lost everything - he never had a chance to heal from his trauma and just got swamped into a gang...it makes sense that he wasn't able to choose a different path, just effing sad. But I guess the feelings of it all is what makes this series so good!

@@ajrobtown The thing is, in night city you can't choose a different path, if you fall down you keep falling, that's a metaphor in the anime as the guy at the top of the commentary section queted Silverhand: "Wrong city, wrong people". David didn't have a way out, even if he didn't entered a gang, Arasaka would find him because of his high tolerance to chrome.

Well Adam is kind of the exeption that comfirms the rule that you cannot overcome cyberpsychosis, because the reason he could is because he is already a psychopath. In a way he is a highly functionnal cyberpsycho the same way that some people are highly functionnal psychopaths. He is the proof that even if you can overcome cyberpsychosis, you cannot do so while keeping your humanity.

The flashbacks are incorporated perfectly near the end, and it works perfectly with the concept of cyber-psychosis. In his mind he kills the people who were after Maine, and in his mind he lifts the car that he was stuck in after the car accident with his mom. He has the power to save all of those people now, only they aren’t around anymore. It just adds to the tragedy of it all, but it’s a beautiful way of showing that David is just a kid who misses his mom and only wants to fulfill the dreams that people have for him, so much so that they’re the only things on his mind in his final moments.

To me it just highlights the obvious issues Cyberpunk had during its development, the fact that an absolute monster like Smasher was so embarrassingly easy to beat always rubbed me the wrong way, especially when you see him portrayed "correctly" here in Edgerunners. I had hoped that CDPR was going to update his fight and make it more inline with how powerful he was shown to be.

It's why you can face down entire armies of bandits and corporate mooks on your own and survive to loot their corpses. Like, in-universe overpowered. Everything you can do in the game, V can actually do in-universe. They are just an absolute monster. To compare just how vastly overpowered V is, consider this: Everyone else in that world is at the level of a Tarkov Player, meanwhile V is as powerful as a Borderlands Vault Hunter.

There is absolutely no sane reason that V, who up until getting the relic was just an unknown merc with some decent skills should suddenly become an in universe god able to casually wipe out someone like Adam Smasher. Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis. Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love. It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection. That is why David is this resistant, his Love for Lucy litteraly keeps him sane.

And with that the closing of the legend of David Martinez. There was so much about the series that I love so much and so many visual details that were so incredible for example one thing that I only noticed after my second wash through was David having a similar experience to Maine where it's saw him approaching the end of his line. For Maine it was the road at the end of the desert where he then passed the torch on to David. So David it was a the end of the street at the crosswalks he grew up with. Sad part is as much as we wanted a happy ending that just doesn't exist, wrong City wrong people. Also the worst part about it is David could have avoided going psycho, he actually was special he could handle more chrome than any normal person with the only other person to handle that much being Adam and a year later our character v. The issue was he didn't know when to stop if he would have just dialed it back a bit he probably would have been fine, but David knew from the beginning that's not his way. David was always the type to burn bright and burn fast

My V came to the city, learned to hate it, lost his best friend, destroyed Arasaka, killed Smasher, and left again with his people, driving towards hope. The game had a lot of problems and failed to deliver on a lot of promises but I think the Nomad V to Nomad ending is a *really* good story that definitely resonated.

Remember what they said in an earlier episode. Cyberpunks are remembered not, by how they lived, but how they die. In Davids case, Arasaka felt it necessary to call in Adam Smasher. Much of the same line of thinking goes for Rebecca. The bogeyman of Night city, had to come down from on high to smite her, before she could die. But she went cussing him out. Fun fact; The old Cyberpunk 2020 rpg actually have the stats for Adam Smasher. (well a 50 years younger version of him) His attractiveness stat is N/A, and his Empathy/Humanity is listed as "yeah, right..."

I think David looking at the sun is probably both foreshadowing and symbolism directly related to the game. Without entering spoiler territory, the games four endings are named after tarot cards: the devil, the star, the sun and temperance. There are certain parallels that can be drawn between how the show ends and the Sun ending of the game (which are further reinforced by the DLC they added after the show came out, where the Afterlife has a cocktail called the David Martinez, showing he became a legend of Night City enough to be recognized like that)

What's awesome about Adam Smasher's use in this show, is that they didn't really introduce him in a standard way. Outside of an off hand reference in Ep7, they just plopped in him. But he didn't feel out of place because he embodied so many of the concepts that had been built up over the course of the show, and was like a dark reflection of David.

If you haven't watched it already, there's an animated clip for the ending song "Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło". It talks about Sasha the previous netrunner of the group who was replaced by Kiwi after she died on a mission. And it kinda shows why Maine chromed himself so much so that he would never lose another teamate.

Smasher is one of my favorite types of villain, a trope I like to call the Dragon. The Dragon is what happens when your true villain cannot fight the main character in an action-focused story. David could have killed any number of Arasaka execs, and he can’t exactly kill the oppressive forces of capitalism that led him to his final destination. Therefore, his more corporeal enemy brings out the Dragon: a manifestation of all conflicts the hero faces: David is failing to adapt to cyberware, Smasher lives and breathes it. David has been ruined by the city, and Smasher has been granted his every dark desire by it. He provides the action the viewer expects while also providing the narrative with a climatic conflict to resolve the threads of the narrative.

Smasher is also a cyberpsycho, though a very "high functioning" one. The only ganic parts left of him of his brain, pretty much -- rest is all chrome. He also seems to have multiple cyborg bodies he can swap to, like a more casual and less bulky "non-combat" one Dude's been living his best life for 50+ years, filling graveyards on Saka's orders. Even when he was just a soldier, he was already unhinged

There's no coming back entirely from cyberpsychosis, but people can at least live somewhat of a normal life after going cyberpsycho, despite what everyone says, at least based on the Cyberpunk rulebooks. To do so requires one thing - therapy. But, when you can chrome up for a fraction of the price of therapy, it's never really an option for runners or anyone else that might go psycho. Bullets are cheaper than healthcare.

A shout-out to my boy Falco, the Best Driver in all of Night City. Without him they wouldn't have even made it to Arasaka Tower in time. But changing the subject.... I still don't understand why the Bros still think that the game is so "Bad", i mean i do get that it's not close to what was promised by the developers but by the time I played it (which was right after Edgerunners came out) the game was already pretty much fixed. And yes... It's definetly not a masterpiece nor one of my favorite games of all time.... But i did find the experience extremely satisfying, both narratively and in gameplay.

-Great reaction to this anime which is one of the animes that made 2022 survivable for me lol. As for Jacob worrying that the moon thing was just a tour, I think we can assume that it's more than that. In this world, there are lunar colonies, so it's safe to assume that Lucy was able to migrate there. the irony though is that remember when David commented something negative about the moon poster in episode 2? It's basically true. If the shard from the game is to be believed, the living conditions in the moon is horrible as so many people have become victims of forced labor. -As for the game, I don't get what's wrong with its hacking mechanics o.o I have a netrunner build in the game and it's so fun making enemies commit suicide, resetting their systems, and making them go cyberpsyho. Jacob dropping the game when he only saw the tutorial is such a shame. He's missing out so much on a great narrative, world building (if you read the shards, NPC conversations, do the gigs/side quests etc) and story. I also do not understand the supposed "lies" and "what was promised". The game had tremendous hype, so a lot of "leaks" and rumors were blown up by the media and they were reported as CDPR's promises in clickbait headlines. There was also another feature of the game that was taken as CDPR's "promise" but it came from a poorly translated article from Polish to English and was posted on Reddit. CDPR replied on Reddit about that saying that it was poorly translated but their reply didn't get as much traction as the original Reddit post. I watched all the Night City Wire episodes and the cut content was really more on cosmetics and wouldn't change the game so much even if they were added. The biggest cut content was being able to climb on walls with the Mantis Blade and being able to hack with the Mono Wires.

Compare the hacking in this to something like in Deus Ex, where you can hack into doors and gates to get into secret areas, or take control of turrets and robots by upgrading the relevant augment, all done through (in my opinion) a fun hacking minigame that you can improve further with augments and by finding/buying software out in the world. In CP it just feels very barebones, most doors take a strength or tech skill check to open and turrets can just be taken at base level by spending RAM, and even their hacking minigame is essentially only used as a way to get more credits and components to make quickhacks rather as a way to actually hack into important things throughout the game. That being said, the netrunner build was pretty fun, even if it did trivialize 90% of the game when you could just clear entire hideouts while sitting outside in your car haha.

It's not something deep and life changing, but to say that it's trash and worthy of dropping the game, just after the tutorial? Sounds pretty excessive to me. I did the same. They fixed a lot of the bugs and performance over the years. It's still a pretty basic RPG with potential that was wasted, but it isn't a bad game at all.

One thing I love about this show is that it unapologetically ends. No sequel bait, no plot hooks unresolved, no immediate announcement of a Season 2 following a new Edgerunner or whatever. Too many people are willing to ruin a perfectly good piece of media by trying to take it and stretch it out for three seasons and a movie. This was the perfect length, of course we all want more but IMO it would only mess with what’s good about it.

It's the style of the main narrative writer, Bartosz Strybor. You can notice it even in the Cyberpunk 2077 comics that he wrote, It's always just four volumes and no matter how good they are, they always have an end. I really do love that even before the anime was released, the game fans were asking if there's going to be season 2, but CDPR always put their foot down in saying that this one has no second season.

@@NocturneJester I think another standalone story set in Night City is a very big possibility. CDPR during can investors call, said that they're going to explore Cyberpunk for other medias too due to the popularity of Edgerunners. Could mean another anime, live action tv series, or a movie. It's basically what they're doing with the Cyberpunk 2077 comics already. Different four volume stories set in Night City. I wish they'd explore different parts of the world in the same universe though, like I'd be very interested in seeing neo-Tokyo, neo-Seoul, neo-Dubao, etc.

The anime really does help add weight to Adam Smasher, making his character in the game feel much better. Before the anime, the game just tells you how much of a badass the guy is, but by video game progression by the time you get to fight him, you can just dunk on Smasher with a meme loadout like he is some goon. It put into perspective that David is a kid in over his head and simply more resilient than most. Meanwhile, it took two legends in V and Johnny to take down Smasher.

So, remember how the game became a real big success after the show? How can you watch this and not get into this world to run down those Saka fuckers? There it is. To anyone going in, might wanna treat ur companion well, and get a certain secret ending. It's the best one. Either way, enjoy. I think the ending of the anime magnifies ur experience in the game and its endings too. Personally I prefer female V because of her VA, but both good, both good. Fuck Adam smasher. 'construct' outta david? PoS. I definitely played with mods. They're REALLY good. Make sure to follow the installation instructions and requisites people. This show man. Definitely best show of the year it came out for me. I told myself I wouldn't cry again hahah... welp. One thing here, Smasher taunts David here is "Out of immuno-blockers". There it goes, it shows the difference between somebody having corpo tech tailor made for their body, slowly being chromed over long long years. The body doesn't have its immune system blocked to not reject the chrome, because there's no rejection at all, it's that simple. We already have another comparison of how much better corpo tech being Lucy compared to other runners. That's just some things that a lot of people questioned so I figured I comment on.

I know some people say David was better off with Becca, but I whole-heartedly disagree. Rebecca is definitely everyone's best girl and I don't even disagree. But Lucy was just a better fit for David. Time and again Lucy opens the curtain of neon lights for David to see what's beyond Night City. David is but another cog in the wheel and he unfortunately does not know any better. Night City was his world and Lucy is the only one who ever did pull David to the side every now and then to appreciate what's beyond it. And I think it's one of the reasons why she's the only one who can pull him out of cyberpsychosis even without immunoblockers. Try as she might, Rebecca never could. Because let's face it, all his time with Becca was spent inside Night City just being that typical merc. She was also just a merc after all. But David found something more when he's with Lucy. Something more peaceful. Something that doesn't involve guns, eddies, and/or becoming a legend. Rebecca was a real G but Lucy was David's better half. Great reaction, guys! What's next on the menu?

the weak about this show is that it's just way too short and some parts are very predictable, even if they turn good and satisfactory to watch, it just make feel some parts to feel rushed, and one of those that really pissed me off is that they didn't gave enough space to develop Becca relationship and feelings for David, in a sense I feel they just pushed her feelings back in the first alf just to justify that Lucy and David are together as straight as possible without an obstacle when there was obviously a chance to have Rebecca developing feelings for him because all the missions they worked back to back and having David saving her ass as shown in the montage of him working for the group and developing. Still this was a great anime, trigger always know how to deliver

Ya know, I'm personally not a big fan of the show as a whole, but at least I can say that it ended on a strong note. There’s this beautifully twisted irony to David fulfilling the 3 wishes entrusted to him in the most skewed way possible: -His mom wanted him to get to the top of Arasaka Tower. Well, he got there, at least physically. -Maine wanted him to make it big, and man he definitely made a name for himself after all this and his psychosis -He got Lucy to the moon just like he promised, after she decided she just wants to stay where she is and live a comfortable live with David as her partner

@Dark0ul Right? The amount of returning and new players to the game reached around 1 million after this anime. I don't know any other show which had that impact. The Witcher season 1 made a lot of people play the game but it wasn't as much as with Cyberpunk. Even The Witcher 3's next gen patch didn't make it reach Cyberpunk numbers. I'm pretty sure these people who are calling it overrated only checked the show because it became so popular, so they watched the show not to really enjoy it for what it is but to scrutinize it for flaws and compare it with other anime, so they end up not liking the show because their intent wasn't really to enjoy it for what it is.
