I usually make lazy version. I cut cabbage in bite size pieces and cook it in a broth then make layers in baking pan. First layer of sauce then layer of cabbage then meat mixture , another cabbage layer and at the top the rest of the sauce. Yank this in the over covered and bake till meat is cooked.

Really you can just scrub outer leaves of cabbage really well. ..because the darker leaves have the most nutrients.

When I make cabbage rolls I pre- freeze the cabbage and then thaw it out. Once it is thawed it is so much more easy to woek with and doesn't need to be blanched at all!! Just a helpful hint,,,

God bless you sister, thank you. I am assuming it will only take about an hour if I don't add the rice. My husband thought that adding cheese on top would be excellent too! Hey, by the way, you might want to consider adding Keto meals. Ketosis is the process of your body burning stored fat instead of sugar. It's the most healthy and satisfying way to eat as it lowers blood sugar tremendously, helps with all kinds of disease. It's simply eating a high percent of good fats, some protein, and almost no carbs. Read about it, it's a huge discovery and people are on board, big time, with eating like this. I lost several inches in just a month, from lowering my carb intake. I believe you would get many many more viewers if you included keto desserts and meals.

A little tip for some of y’all who might be making this, you can use instant white rice in place of regular rice if you don’t wanna have to cook it before hand. My mom & grandma both make it with the instant rice and have ever since I can remember

Hey, Ms T- my husband is half Polish, half Trinidadian, so I had to learn both from my wonderful M-I-L. She makes amazing stuffed cabbage, but Polish people, in IMHO don't add as much seasoning as we Americans would like.So I always added more( Sorry, Delores) So seeing your cabbage rolls, they look the Bomb, as usual for your recipes, so I can't wait to try these. Thank you for posting, can't wait to try yours! So excited! Love you, sweetie pie 💕💖😙

Hey mummy soulfulT, you used the word 'blanch' correctly for that process. I think your son didn't know that before. Blanching is when you place vegetables or maybe fruits in hot water to partially cook them for a short period of time. Sometimes then followed by placing the food item under cold running tap water or in ice water to stop the cooking process. I love watching your videos btw. All the best. Moses, in England.

I usually use rice that is instant or left-over from another meal when I make my cabbage rolls. You done a fantastic job on those cabbage rolls. I make tons of them, always in a huge pot/pan, sometimes cooked on top of the stove, simmered in a delicious tomato sauce. I would love to try yours one day, they looked so good when you took them out of the oven and cut them open!

If you use the torn cabbage leaves on top it helps to trap the steam in to better cook the rice and protect the rolls from burning.

Those are American Cabbage rolls. Maybe Your sons would love European Cabbage Rolls. There are two ways of making them, one using the boiled cabbage leaves like you have done and the other using a whole fermented cabbage purchased at European specialty stores and the veins are carefully taken off with a sharp paring knife without making holes. Lots lots of onions and some garlic are sauted till they are medium golden brown then mix it with half beef and half pork and Arborio rice and a bit of bread crumbs. A jar of European SAUERKRAUT lines the bottom and top of cabbage rolls and naturally smoked garlic sausages and thick slices of bacon are put throughout. They are baked in a roaster with water, until all water absorbed adding hot water when needed and making a roux at the end with the liquid or adding favorite tomatoe puree, served with Sour Cream on Top. I love cabbage rolls many ways and so does my family. Every culture has their own version of cabbage rolls, Japan hasca fried version😃

Also wanted to say when you said "blanch it" that was the perfect explanation for the cabbage - you want to cook it but only enough to make it soft and usable to sculpt your cabbage rolls with (Also because it won't take as long to cook after you've done so)

Hey SoulfulT, just a thought but I make stuffed bell peppers often and began using orzo pasta instead of rice. It is more tender so you might want to give it a try. Also, you can freeze the cabbage overnight and let it thaw for several hours and then peel the leaves off. They are not cooked of course but will be soft and pliable from having been frozen. You do not have to boil anything. The leaves can be shaped or stuffed easily and you are going to cook them anyway.
