There are 1970's department store playlists that really go hard. Play that stuff while out driving, nod your head like you're Ice Cube having a good day. People laugh hysterically. The cassette deck reminds me of my late father. We got one in 1972 and paid $200 for it ($1500 today). Ours had two slots. It was designed to let you play one tape while using the other side to record. My parents had a lot of cassettes back then, including the music for the hit movie Fiddler on the Roof. One song on that tape featured a ghost with scary music. So for Halloween that year, Dad got this bright idea to use the cassette deck and loop the scary ghost music. Whenever a kid came up the driveway looking for candy, Dad blasted that music out the front window. We kids loved it because we got to keep most of the candy.

What a beautiful Pioneer deck! There is real tactile pleasure in those machines! I don't mean to be a "good-old-days" guy but it does seem like they essentially stopped making devices like this...well, presumably because the market for tangible music is so niche now. It's funny what time does... growing up in the 70s and 80s these things were just "objects" in the house. But when they are experienced later in life, it's the closest we can come to time travel I suppose.

There is simply no substitute for magnetic tape. Especially the full spectral width & range of 1" wide reel-to-reel. The very best CD's & all-digital mp3 & mp4 cannot equal it.... At least with quality compact cassettes we can get close Find any album recorded on a Capitol "XDR" original factory compact cassette, & that's the ultimate. Pink Floyd's _Dark Side of the Moon_ & Dr Hook's _Greatest Hits,_ for example. For duplication, Farvemark recommends 3M High Energy cassettes, but I havent found out yet whether these are still produced
