I have a three bedroom in Johannesburg and it's a one bath. It only cost me R5,000. But is not in a fancy neighborhood. It's with the regular people. But it's a beautiful neighborhood with lots of street vendors and grocery stores and walking distance. I would say she's living in a very very nice neighborhood. One that will probably cost $3,000 or higher per month in the US depending on where you live. If you're not big on living ultra fine lifestyle you can make it easily in Johannesburg on $1,000 US per month. You could find a place to stay two to three bedrooms but nothing fancy. You going to live with a common folk. But that can pay for food and transportation and all kinds of things.

What's the cellphone cost monthly, also the health insurance
@svthelxinoe548816 күн бұрын
Cellphone? You get Vodacom 1TB LTE-data for 500R/m. Health insurance is something different than I was used to: See, I am german with dual (SA)-citizenship and moved to RSA a few years ago for retirement. I am on an a germanbased expat-insurance with worldwide coverage, as I originally only wanted to refit my sailing catamaran here and then sail the world, but actually did not have to use it once over here, being stuck here due to Covid and other circumstances, instead of sailing away. South Africa has a working public healthcaresystem, which might be slow in cases, but does the job. I.e. I have been on chemotherapy for CLL for some months now, and apart from something like 85R (or $5 USD/EUR) monthly admittance-fee to a public hospital for every new round of sessions, the whole treatment including radiology, bloodtests and chemo is free of charge. Try that in the US (or Europe) ...
@fluid16143 ай бұрын
Wow, the dollar really goes a long way in SA. You should do a video with a South African and talk about these costs so they give you a perspective. 17k to rent in JHB and 2k a week on groveries is really good living. Rich living ouchea lmao

Americans put a lot of emphasis on how cheap things are in SA, and I think the more it gets publicized that you find things cheap in SA, the likely you will get over-charged just for being American. Dealers will start having special prices for Americans. It's not good to shout 'you are charging me much less than what I expected to pay🗣️' to the market I remember some excited trader discussing with a supplier he stocks from how much profit he makes from product on resale, and that type of conduct actually influences the supplier to raise his own prices. Being discrete about money is a layer of protection on it's own.

I’ve lived 33 years in SA. It surprises me why Americans would sell their property to buy in South Africa where there are no tax incentives on property ontop of the corruption you have with construction workers. Gym and slow wifi is overpriced. Even though my son attended private schooling, Schooling in Africa doesn’t get any recognition. Even though my cost in SA costed less, in the long run it costed me more. I wish you all the best though on your business ventures, maybe you will be luckier than I was.
