Oregon USA checking in here: Normally, I find most online ads annoying but this ad was so entertaining I didn’t click through as I do with most ads. Not only was it fun, I learned a lot about South Africa! I watched it several times and shared with friends. They all agree with me that South Africa would be a great vacation destination. Before we saw this ad, South Africa wasn’t on anybody’s vacation radar. Based on this ad, I’ll bet South Africa will see a significant increase in American tourism. Trevor Noah is brilliant, very cool, beloved throughout the world and has a Midas touch with everything he does. Best marketing investment ever!

Honestly, the last thing I want to hear is an American, English, Irish, Australian accent when someone is selling anything Africa to me. The whole concept is to get away from as many Europeans as possible - and I know they will be there too. Sometimes we/ black Americans need a break from anything that reminds us of white people. I get why they chose him.
@wilbertkendal25245 ай бұрын
Absolutely
@ZAR_725 ай бұрын
If you're looking for an accent similar to that of West Africa then my friend you should definitely not come to SA. Go to Ghana or something. English is not ours and we're not trying to make it ours. When I speak isiZulu I will try to sound like a Zulu speaker, when I speak SeSotho I try to sound like a Sotho speaker, and the same goes for the other 9 OFFICIAL languages
@sotosotoa81205 ай бұрын
@@ZAR_72 I hear you, my thing is, if you are speaking English and you are from Africa, I want to hear the mother land accent. Bcuz it sounds like a white dude trying to tell people to come to South Africa. It's like the - come to Jamaica commercial back in the day, u had the 7up brotha speaking (unfortunately they never showed his face, if I'm not mistaken). And I felt like seeing Jamaica. But I hear you tho. Im just being over critical. Peace and respect fam.
@ZAR_725 ай бұрын
@@sotosotoa8120 I'm glad you get it. And keep in mind that there are people who, when going to the West, are told that they speak "such good English" and and the white people would apparently be shocked by that. People do get impressed when you speak their language like they do, whether it's in China or the US. I can tell you this, Zulu people don't like it when you speak "horrible" Zulu to them and they get very impressed when you speak it like a native Zulu speaker. Same goes for other African languages. Another thing I need to highlight is that South Africa has many English accents due to different races, but even the white South African accent does not sound British, Irish or Australian. It's unique to SA. You can check KZbin videos of white South African accent vs British, Irish or Australian accent. Sometimes when you're not familiar with something you'll tend to relate it to something you're familiar with. You can check out videos of our presidents like Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe, Jacob Zuma and the current Cyril Ramaphosa. Listen to them speak and I can promise you that there's no way you'd think these people are from London, Sydney or Dublin. Africa does not have one English accent and usually people from the same region, West Africa for example, tend to sound similar; but not everyone sounds like that. It's the same with East Africa. In Southern Africa; especially SA, Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland the accents are indistinguishable because the native languages are the same. Here's my thing when it comes to learning a language, I'll push my tounge to its limit in trying to learn your language. Lastly, just like I mentioned that we don't own nor are we trying to own English, in South Africa we don't have a language like Pidgin English which we use at home. At home we speak each other's native languages and they're related, thus easy to learn. We learn English from school and watching TV, and we use it at school and at work. We don't have our own version of English for daily use. We don't care for it. Our president speak all of our 11 official languages, I speak 8 of them and I think Trevor Noah also speak 8. It has nothing to do with intelligence. These languages are so closely related that we can have a flowing conversation with me speaking one language and you speaking another. Apologies for a long text, but your main comment came across as meant to be an insult. SA is a beautiful country and I wouldn't change it for any other country on Africa or in the world. We have our issues, but I wouldn't survive issues in other parts of Africa, America and the world at large
@sotosotoa81205 ай бұрын
@@ZAR_72 thanks fam , my bad, I wasn't trying to come off as an insult. Thanks for helping me to understand more about SA. Much love and respect

Guys, Trevor Noah comes with a global audience. The amount paid will pay dividends that a less famous person would not be able to reel in. Thats business. Julie Andrews didn't get "My Fair Lady" even though she played the role for years on Broadway. Audrey Hepburn came with a built in audience. It was ok, bc Andrew's got Mary Poppins and she later thanked them for not giving her My Fair Lady. You will get your role when its your turn.
