South Park is a first-person shooter adventure video game based on the American adult animated sitcom of the same name. The game was developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 for North America and in 1999 for Europe. It was later ported to Microsoft Windows in 1999 and released in North America only.
The PlayStation port was developed by Appaloosa Interactive in 1999. A Game Boy Color version developed by Crawfish Interactive was in development, but it was eventually cancelled due to South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker stating that the game would not be fitting on the Game Boy Color as that console was marketed towards children. However, they did keep a few copies of the Game Boy Color version to commemorate what was originally started as the first South Park game.
Despite the Nintendo 64 version's positive reception, the PC and PlayStation versions of South Park were panned by critics. A Sega Dreamcast version was planned for a 2000 release, but was cancelled during development for unknown reasons. In 2018, a ROM image of the Game Boy Color version was leaked online.

Matt and Trey also didn't know it was being made until it had been out for a while. They found out, tried it, and then just hated it completely. At this point they promised they would make a game themselves one day but put no time limit on that. Then they gave us stick of truth and it was great. Not necessarily as a game (though I did like it) but certainly as a few episodes i got to be part of :).

There was a kid's section in a supermarket my parent's used to go, where you could leave your kids in a small playground with N64's under supervision. There were three games there: SuperMario64, Diddy Kong Racing, and South Park Yes, South Park, in a kid's playground. Mind you, this was Brazil in the late 90's to early 2000's and whoever purchased the games probably never watched south park and thought it was a kid's game from the cover. I never passed the first level because I was little and didnt speak english yet, so mostly I only played Diddy Kong and Mario. Good times.

The beams of the warpo ray have different functions. The purple (mainly useful in multiplayer) turns the enemy into an animal and does 70 damage. While the yellow one shrinks the enemy and you can kick them (I forget the damage amount). Plus, you can switch the Terrance and Philip dolls, and if you use the Terrance dolls, they act like proximity mines and have a radius that's a bit bigger than Philip. You can zoom in with the chicken three times too.

The Cow Launcher isn't usually used in Single Player mode and can only be added in via cheats. In the multiplayer it fires a cow in the air above the closest player and lands arse-first on their head (even obscuring the victim's view with a funky cow butt vignette) The weight of the cow slowly crushes them. The gun is basically game's own weird answer to the BFG.

I always found the look of this game charming. You see I always liked seeing things that are either drawn poorly or primitively given a new coat of paint be it the HD treatment or in this game's case another dimension, another example being that aqua teen hunger force golfing game for the ps2. Yeah if you absolutely have to make a game based on a show like this you'd be better off using sprites but I still like they look these games were going for, and hey, they did a pretty damn good job on the visuals looking at the cutscenes and intro

@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Oh sure. For it's time Turok was pretty good. That was my point. Time has passed them by. By todays standards it's a mediocre at best like most N64 games. It's simply due to being early 3d games on a cartridge based system. They've aged like milk left out in the sun. I don't just mean the graphics either which is obvious. Just everything about Turok and games of that era are very much products of 1996. Good then, pretty much unplayable now.

This game needs a remastered treatment in the manner of Night Dive's re-releases of Turok and Turok 2. While they're at it, maybe the remastered version of the game engine should be used for a new retro South Park game. One which combines the exploration and interactivity of the Stick of Truth with the best gameplay elements of Turok 1 and 2, with a bit of Duke 3D, Half-Life, and Postal 2 mixed in.
@thedeegee1601

Turok sucks though, with enemies respawning after 1 minute, and no quicksaving.
@Cephalopod51
@Cephalopod51 4 жыл бұрын
@@thedeegee1601 I meant in terms of Turok's gameplay rather than its saving system or difficulty. Turok 2 allows for quicksaves, and I'm partial to its saving over Turok's. I don't like Turok's absence of quicksaving, either. Of course a South Park FPS would have quicksaving.

I have to admit, South Park Rally on the Dreamcast is a favorite of mine. Most people really hate on those early South Park games, and for good reason, but South Park Rally is a guilty pleasure of mine. The variety of levels, events and power-ups made it really fun to me. I doubt I would ever attempt to play South Park or Chef's Luv Shack ever again, but I would always be up for another round of South Park Rally.

Also Turok, you can tell it's the same engine alot. Pick up items glows your screen, and the end level was basically like a end level on turok, endless spawn even the same camera work was used to spin around it.

The Multiplayer was great on N64. I remember the combat mechanics being very satisfying. The problem like he said was level design and enemy variety. Multiplayer was fun because you had a worthy opponent.

I remember getting the demo version of this on a PC Gamer disc when I was subscribed to the magazine. It was pretty exciting getting to play a South Park game back when the show was still a new thing and I was a teenager, but man did it ever teach me a lesson about getting hyped for games tied into movie and TV franchises.

I really liked this game as a kid because I was a huge fan of South Park. One of the things I couldn’t figure out was in the level with the mothership outside there was this secret area that was locked behind a door, hidden behind the terrain’s wall, that you could just clip through, behind the stacks of crates. I still have the official player’s guide from the pros at... Acclaim, and while it shows this secret area on the map, it never brings it up in the guide. Maybe it was something they cut and they forgot to put collision over it.
