Hi Steve another excellent video from your cousin down the road in Southport, it hasn’t altered much in 75 years , Lord street looks like it used to all those years ago. The fun fare is much smaller than it used to be and we loved going to the Southport flower show every year as they had some lovely flowers on display. 👍👍👍👍

Unfortunately, Lord Street is suffering just like every other High Street in the Country. There's now a large number of empty shops and the 'quality' of the shops it has has declined markedly. It's now rather a pale impersonation of the street it was.

Pleasure land was originally owned by Silcocks. They sold the park as a going concern to the Thompson family. The Thompsons did not have it long before closing it down. They took the Traumatizer and the Ice Blast to Blackpool. They demolished the Cyclone despite their being a petition. They then sold off all the other rides. There was talk that the land had been up for sale to build a shopping centre and a pub on the land. However there is a clause that the land must be used for a fun fair. The land was bought and it gradually became the fair it is today.
@paulkitchen18462 жыл бұрын
I think they leased not owned the land as the roller coaster was owned by Thompsons who operated under the name helters and a waltzer next to silcocks speedway was under a different operator.Your right about the clause in the land being only allowed for amusement otherwise we could of ended up like Morecambe.
@peteryatesy2 жыл бұрын
No, it was owned by the Thompson family since 1913. Some of the rides were leased by Silcock's until the site was closed and wrecked by the Thompson family

The great comedian Les Dawson use to say about the Sea at Southport being so far out that even the fish needed glasses. I've always said, I will believe in Climate Change and the Sea Levels rising when the Sea at Southport covers Lords Street. The great Southport which I think is one of the best Seaside Resorts in the UK, many happy memories from that Town. I learned how to swim in the baths at Southport when I was in Primary School, the School use to take us on a coach to the baths, a great day out because when we finished our swimming lessons we could go to the gift shop just around the corner from the baths and spend our pocket money. In my adult life it was the place to go for night life for pubs and clubs, and the great Toad Hall night club, sadly no more, where I first watched Michael Jackson's Thriller video, shown on a big screen on the dance floor, many happy memories from Southport. Do some more videos from Southport Stephen please. 👍🙂👍

Was at Formby on Monday and the beach there (once you get to it was beautiful). I understand that the lake is a sea water lake and was reclaimed from the sea, the old sea wall being a long way back near the hospital you pointed out.
