Whenever I became an angst filled teenager my late father played this to me to basically tell me stop being so miserable and cheer up at times and it annoyed me how much it worked. Now, when I feel down I play this and think about him and tell my depressed inner being to "shut up'a you face!" and it helped. Thanks, Dad

My father immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1965. When he heard this song I was just 13 years old . I remember him laughing himself hoarse hearing it the first time. Made him giggle every time he heard it until he died in 1991. Cute song that’s close to my heart for the memories it has attached to it.

#TBT... This was actually a family hymn among my siblings. As such, I have responsibly taught it to my children, who will also pass it along to my grandchildren. Many generations of the Rodriguez clan will gleefully sing "Wassamatta U... Ah SHADDAP YOU FACE!" We're not Italian, but the parallels with Dominican families is seamless. Does it bother you that we are a kooky family? if it does... "Ah SHADDAP YOU FACE!"

The only problem was, it seemed to be stuck and the only a portion of it played . . .over and over and over again. At one point I said to the teenaged popcorn jockey, "isn't this driving you nuts? The song playing over and over?" He hadn't noticed...until that moment and said "thanks a lot lady. Now I can't unhear it." We found our seats and sat down, still playing until the previews came on. At one point my dad turned to me and said, "Yeah. Thanks a lot lady!" I have loved this song ever since. My dad is gone now and occasionally I find this song and play it. It makes me smile. @@evanrowe4657 travesty. Vienna is a genius atmospheric song. And then you have this.
@evanrowe46573 жыл бұрын
@@forestfire1232 Tbh though I can understand why, this song is very very catchy. In terms of like a good pop song, it's great. Novelty songs are often very successful. I think there's also a lot of merit in novelty songs-look at Frank Zappa's entire career. But yeah nah Vienna is great art and I think it's really stood the test of time, it's certainly more well remembered that Shaddup Your Face. You could argue one of the main reasons this song is still listened to is that fact that it beat Vienna to number one

After saving our pennies for years, Mitch and I took a dream vacation back to Japan where we met our wives. Apparently we were having too much fun on our Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo. Our wives were looking at us in disgust so naturally, had to sing this song to them. June 1980.
